  1. Went through this exact thing yesterday with FedEx. Ordered an ankle brace for $30 plus another $35 for shipping, about 2100 Baht total. Was charged 1745 Baht in duty and service charges. Everything is spelled out in black and white on about three different customs forms and two FedEx forms. Was listed as an orthopedic device, valued at $30. Oddest thing was, they wouldn't send the package out from Bangkok until I emailed a signed ID copy of the person that it was addressed to.
  2. The bulk of UA saver awards are hidden from all buy 1K. I can find economy saver awards (East Coast to BKK) right now for as early as mid August.
  3. If you're the same jackiethai/alexandertha (or whatever other names you were using) of 24/7 apartments fame, I'd give this place a WIIIIIDE berth.
  4. No I didn't mean squat toilet, I meant Thai style toilet (bathroom) where the shower is right next to the toilet with no curtain. I forgot to mention, he is on month to month with ฿8,000 security deposit. There are cheaper places if you're willing to sign a lease, but the price at Navin is not bad for month to month. The area is not bad, and is very quiet after Carrefour closes. There is 24 hour reception and security directly outside the building.
  5. A friend of mine has been staying there since March. It's a fairly large basic room with air con, Thai style toilet, small TV and small balcony. He pays ฿8,000/month plus electric and water; the last two months his electric (฿7/unit) has been about ฿2,000 and ฿3,000. His water has been about ฿100 each month. There is no elevator, but it is only three floors, so not that big of a deal. Wifi is free if you ask reception for the password, but there is no room cleaning unless you pay ฿200 each time. Navin II which is right next door, has bigger rooms with LCD TVs, daily room cleaning and water and electric are included for ฿17,000/month. It is five floors high, but there is an elevator.
  6. As long as they don't make it any harder to keep my 1K, then I'm fine with it.
  7. I have one box from overseas that is currently being held for ransom by Thai Customs. They've opened it and put what was in it on the seizure notice. Not kidding.
  8. Actually, you MUST spend ฿129. ฿99 + ฿30 = ฿129, not ฿134.
  9. ^ Uh, dried banana chips in trail mix? Pureed and canned in baby food? Ice cream?
  10. Gonna have to disagree with you on that, ฿145 for a vodka/diet coke in a LK Metro Guesthouse is pretty damn expensive.
  11. It's pretty far out of the way, tiny rooms (15m2 - 30m2), no weekly or monthly rates and electric at ฿8/unit; I think I'll pass. What place offers daily rates only and then charges for electric? Besides, this thread is about Sanya Apartments, not your overpriced guesthouse.
  12. Agreed. I had the same issue in Jan when I tried to book with them. Took multiple emails just to get a quote, and then no follow-up when I tried to book. The rate they quoted me, however, was the lowest to be found. It was even lower than quoted on page one of the thread. Nothing you can do on your end. Hard to give them business if they don't respond to inquiries, no matter how cheap the room is.
  13. I tried to book the Metropole and the Renaissance two weeks ago. Messaged them from here, and also emailed them each twice. Asked for the FLB rate, but did not get a single email returned from either hotel.
  14. From what I understand, for a foreigner to be able to practice in any medical profession in Thailand requires a written exam in Thai for any license/certs to be accepted. I don't know if this extends to psychiatry or counseling though. Do you speak Thai, or are you aiming at a falang audience only?
  15. *120*PIN#TALK It's not international roaming in the US either on the TMobile network as you can't call out, but topping up doesn't count as a phone call. I've done it in the US no prob. I've also had the seller transfer credit to my number.
  16. You can buy them on eBay and get the seller to top it up for you. I didn't have a problem topping up from the US, but I don't know about the UK.
  17. agoda.com quoting ฿1,119 for 21 days following Songkran. If all else fails, email them direct. I did this a few months ago and was quoted rates less than I could find on the hotel sites.
  18. Thought I'd seen it all, but seriously, a single bed? That bed is not big enough for one person, much less two.
  19. True, they are definitely not the only place that hasn't returned emails sent by both contact list on their website, and by direct email. Hard to spend money in a place that won't reply to your inquiries.
  20. I was talking about 90 minutes from the time you ordered, not the time you walked in the door. Agreed, during dinner rush periods, you'll wait to be seated, then wait again for your food. Perfectly acceptable, and even expected. Waiting for 90 minutes after you order is not acceptable in any establishment. Most of the problems experienced in this thread seem to be waiting one hour plus from the time of ordering.
  21. Yes, first I emailed the Metropole and finally got their rates. Then I tried getting the rates for the Renaissance using the same method, but I got another reply from the Metropole when the email was sent to the Renaissance. I haven't gotten a response yet from them.
  22. I had the same problem, both with email and with the CARD notification here. When I sent it with the CARD, it went to the Metropole instead of the Renaissance.
  23. Haha, how do you say, "you donkey" in Thai?
  24. On what planet is a 90 minute wait for food normal, or even acceptable, regardless of the day or occasion? We're not talking from the time you walk in, we're talking after you have ordred.
  25. And, according to the angel site, the cheapest tickets don't accrue FFMs. I'd much rather pay a few hundred more through another site and get my 20k per trip.
