  3. Worked for me OK.
  4. I agree with all of the above. Songran day itself is fun, but the week before is a pain in the arse. How to keep it fun? Well go and find a bar around soi 6/7/8 and (after getting dumped on) sit down, buy a beer and watch all the passer bys getting dumped on It's not really that nice, but watching some 6ft, head shaved, tattood english yobbo run out on to beach road and drench a bunch of germans in a baht bus (or russians) can at least mean you are getting some value out of you songran holiday dollar... On Songran day, get a BF and walk around beach road (they closed it off when I was there) buy a breezer and you will have fun on that day getting all fucked up with water, the white powder shit and the general atmosphere. (Watch out for the large 'bicycle pump' water pistols... they are dangerous...copped one in the ear at close quartes.. Fuck!)
  5. Melbourne to BKK is nine hours (sorry to you 24hr+ guys ) So the midnight flight from Melbourne, landing 6am local time (or 5am daylight saving aus), out of suvi by 6.30ish... taxi to hotel by 8.30ish.. wait for room to be vacant by 10am and crash cause I can't sleep on a plane (can understand taking drugs for you 24hr+ guys) shit out the thai airways food and get stuck into Pattaya!!!
  6. I arrived on the 3rd and leave on the 30th back to OZ. I agonised about the situation before I left and monitored the Bangkok post online. Since arriving i have sort of looked the at Post a few times just to see if anyone might be about to breaak down the hotel door. BUT!!! I just left The World Wide Agogo AND FOR THE 3RD TIME IN A WEEK SOME FARANG HAS GOT UP ON THE FUCKING PODIUM AND DANCED and they haven't cut the sound or lights or anything... fuck me that should be cause for insurgency.. AND the fucking golden mile of tat put up on beach road yesterday is giving me the shits!!!!!! Cunts wandering along looking at shit they can buy any day of the week from any stall holder in second road... ANF fuckers dont wander along with your 30 minute old barfine looking at this shit like it means something.. THERE IS A BIG FAT BALD OLD CUNT WHO WANTS TO GET PAST FOR FUCKS SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So OP, national politics and plane vacancies are nothing compared to the shit we are all dealing with here! (Just come, all is good )
  7. Caddyshack
  8. Jingle Bells, Nelson smells, Tingtong ran away. Oh what fun, We go Koh Larn, Praying all the way, hey! ---------------------------------------------- On the third day of christmas My teelack said to me, my mens is late, you find new date, and it burn when I pee...
  9. Paper said today that baht is at 3 year low. I can't see it going up until after the election, at least.
  10. I will NOT be talked into lady drinks by service girls.
  11. I saw the soi 2 one before they started the long ramp on the none beach side The short ramp was just that, a ramp, there was no pipes on the unstarted side. Edit: the digging was trenches in the road, about 6-8 inches deep, where they layed mesh (to hold the concrete work to the road top I guess)
  12. I walked past the soi 2 speed humps tonight... there were 2 stands with yellow warning lights... leaning against a barrier with other tools, not turned on...
  13. Yesterday they finished the ramp on the none beach side (just near soi 2}. It is much longer than the one on the beach side. This morning, they have a jackhammer digging up the 'short' beach side ramp... Boss: Hmm.. pass me those plans.. Boss to workers: You fuckwits! Too funny!
  14. Yes, a very shitty change. It was a very pleasant place to fritter away an hour. You can see the logic though... You don't want anyone sitting there on a free seat, under some natural shade, talking to a freelancer and necking a 7/11 breezer. (Sigh.) You need 'em sitting in a dirty deckchair, under a stinky umbrella, shoulder to shoulder with all the other passengers paying for the stripey flight to nowhere. edit: and fuck the poor everyday thai who may have just wanted to sit at their own beach and wile away a few moments after work...
  15. Mongers contribution? Walked along new beach walkway this mornin, I'm staying down soi 2 end. Old aged mongers 'OAMs' (just like me) outnumbered by group after group of chinese waiting to get into speed boats (and there are fucking lots of those!). OAMs with girlfriend in hand outnumbered by european couples and young good looking svetlanas with boy friend in hand. In noodle eight yesterday in Big C, pair of Russian mums noshing down. Later, different russian mum walks in, sits down and cross questions waitress in russian about menu (which had pics!), couldn't get a response from the waitress at all so stupid woman flounced out in a huff, giving me a look like 'arent they useless' because I had been staring and maybe thought I was russky. I think our days are numbered...
  16. I took my own advice and came, arrived yesterday in Patts. Saw something about the protest on TV this morning, then went down to Pig and Whistle for the small english breakfast. Didn't see any protestors... enjoyed my brekkie.
  17. Yep, I'm keeping a watchful eye too! The protest leaders say they are not going to close down the airport: "Protest spokesman Akanat Promphan said the rallies would not deter tourists from coming to Thailand since they are being help peacefully without weapons. He said protesters will not try to shut down Suvarnabhumi airport to force government out of office." http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/381816/23-countries-issue-special-travel-advice-on-thailand-political-protests We all know this can change in a second, but I'm remaining optimistic.
  18. Thanks Guys. Looks like it IS worthwhile even in December. Regards SlipSlopSlap
  19. Hi, I usually visit Pattaya in low season, July - September, sometimes April or even February. I much prefer low season for the quiet beer bars, deserted gogos, empty pubs, hotel choice and low rates etc. I also don't mind the rainy weather. (Anti social bugger, aren't I) However I have had to move my plans this year and looks like I'll be staying over this December. So, questions: How high is high season in December now? I usually stay in the soi 2/3 area and find the hotels almost deserted, most of the bars in that area only have a handful of patrons, Big C is quiet and it is only when you get to Walking street that you find the crowds. I know it is a bit like asking how long is a piece of string, but anyone care to give me a heads up on what I might find in December? Any thoughts most welcome. (Also, best place for a Christmas dinner??? Do you have to book? Queen Vic maybe? I love their Sunday roasts.) Thanks all.
  20. Charlies.. And a full english breakfast at the Pig and Whistle... A Sunday roast at the Queen Vic... Sigh
  21. Hi geordiegirl. You need to elaborate a little on your needs if you want any real details. Have you been to Pattaya before, did you have a particular area in mind? What price range were you hoping for and what is your absolute limit? There is huge range of accomodation in Patts (and therefore a wide range of prices) and and you will get lots of info here from BMs who have used it all, but you need to give some details about what you hope to rent. Regards SSS
  22. Hi rabbitoh, I broke a crown the day before I was booked to fly to Pattaya on Feb 09. When I arrived I contacted the dentist in Central Festival and got an immediate booking. They pitch their business at fly in/fly out 2 week tourists like us (as I'm sure the ones above do as well) and their first question was when do you leave, so they could get everything done in the time I had (2 weeks!). The receptionist spoke excellent english so there were no misunderstandings, the service was great and a post and crown cost about $375 all up (I was quoted almost $2000 in Melbourne for the same work) Have a look here: http://dentistbeach.com/dental_fees.htm Why not email them and get a basic quote?
  23. Hi gimmble, Thanks for the heads up on the jetstar filights, but are you sure the $529 isn't just one way without the return leg? Jetstars website displays all prices (even when you have clicked you want a return flight) as seperate outbound and return prices, you have to add the 2 together to get the real price.
