  1. Interesting article Tom, but complete bollocks. I have worked all over the place and i have never found a local national from the country i work in that is any good at anything. In the middle east they prefer expats because we know how to manage companies and operations better than anyone else. In Asia its the same, Asian countries do not like to admit it, but we are far superior with expertise and knowledge of business management and engineering/operational project management. Why are there so many openings for expats in Singapore/Malaysia/Vietnam etc. Lets face it, Somchai just has not got the education and Asian people cant see any further than the end of each day
  2. Most of the positions in Thailand are "assignment" positions which means they have an expire date, usually not more than 4 years as the labor office do not want to issue work permits for these type of positions for more than this time. From what i see the Thais need good engineering people, apart from not being able to park a car straight, they are not good at any kind of engineering either. Pretty much all of the people i know who live here - work offshore or work outside of Thailand for a month or two then come back for a month or two. Actually working in Thailand will require a company, usually a Western company to offer you a position that comes with the "expat package" (housing/transport/insurance etc) and these type of positions are usually advertised in house first before they go national. I would suggest you look at what type of companies you know that you are most suited to and then send them your resume and a covering letter. It is not easy and can be a long road, but you need to be patient and be persistent if this is what you really want. Good luck
  3. I guess with an international license - yes. But the international license is only valid for 1 year
  4. You could try looking up places like www.ebookers.com and see if they have alternatives. I have a friend who was in a similar situation as you say and he has gone with Etihad with a two hour layover. The flight was 500 pounds cheaper this way. Edit in; I just had a look for you on your dates and they have cheaper flights with Emirates and Etihad, but some crappy layovers. It can be good to stay in Dubai for the 20 something hours and get yourself to Ratskies and take a filipina back to a room for a session while you are waiting for your flight
  5. I would think that would be plenty. Alternatively, there is a small 10 seater van that runs every 30 minutes from outside the temple on Pattaya Tai, that takes you to Monument for 100 baht and from there you can take another van to Kanchanaburi, not sure on that cost but i know its cheap, quick and comfortable. Had a mate go to Hua Hin this way for 380 baht each way
  6. They take your pictures there now, don't forget to photo copy everything a few times. Thais love photo copies of everything. You need to have a Thai license to get an international license here in LOS and you have to go to Chonburi for that.
  7. Jacko I never have breakfast, but what i did notice was there was all White Europeans there, no Arabs or Indians. There is space out front of the reception to park your bike
  8. I decided to stay in a hotel last night as i was intending having what i consider a proper drink and as i live in the northern part of Naklua i did not want to risk riding the bike home pissed out of my brains. At this time in and around Pattaya there is a big purge on drink driving and i know of two guys who have been "done" by the local law and it has cost them a small fortune. I decided to stay at a hotel i had not stayed at for over 9 years, at the entrance to Walking Street so not far to stagger at 6 am. The Honey Lodge has had a major overhaul and refurbishment. The corridors are slightly narrower than before but this allows for a bigger bathroom. The rooms are nice, clean, modern and have flat screen TVs etc. The bathroom has a separate shower and toilet which is great. The reception has totally changed from before and is much better. And for the first time, there is now a lift. I walked in and asked for a room and it cost me 900 baht for one night. I think it is very good for the money, right opposite Bamboo bar and you can be out of your room and into Walking Street in under 30 seconds. I was to drunk to take any pictures but i am listing the website that has good pictures. I did notice the website say 1200 baht for one night, but i was charged 900 + 300 deposit for swipe card (refundable on return of card) http://www.honey-lodge.com
  9. Me too, it is very good and they had good mint sauce also
  10. Seems expensive, i bought a 1 year old Honda Click with 4000k on the clock for 28k, it had tax and insurance also
  11. Great, now we have Robocop
  12. I had the Pork Cordon Bleu and baked potato in there two night ago and it was very good, came after about 25 minutes. The place was packed and all the staff were running around due to how busy they are. My food came out hot and it was good. Come on, give them a break, they are the biggest and busiest restaurant in Pattaya, i would bet 99% of the other restaurants would love to have 50% of the PBG customers
  13. No one follows you any where, just everyone is fed up with your bullshit. What the crap are you on about now "with me for a long time" is this the latest piece of shite you are running with.
  14. Yes, but that does not include poncing for disabilities you don't have or and education you never got either.
  15. I still love the place, i like the food and service, i like the staff and i think Pete does a great job. 2000 meals a day, something has to wrong sometimes. At least Pete is always willing to listen to a fair complaint and rectify your meal if you are not happy. Not many places will do that.
  16. Jacko, i had a roast pork Sunday lunch there a few weeks back and it was excellent
  17. Slightly off topic, but i usually have brekkie and sometimes lunch at the Pig n Whistle Soi 7 but its gone down hill fast. I tried a place called Punch and Judy today and it was excellent. Big English Breakfast 160 Baht.
  18. This Pullman is quite away from anywhere, unless you want to stay in this area, its ok around the hotel with restaurants etc , but they are fairly expensive compared to the rest of Pattaya but they are good. For getting around you will need to either hire a car, bike or take "Taxi" baht buses which will be quite pricey to get anywhere. Let me know what you want to do with regards to getting around and ill try to help you further.
  19. Are you staying at the Pullman in Naklua, Wongamat? If you are you are a fair way out from central Pattaya. The Pullman in Wongamat has a really nice beach area but you will need to ride baht buses etc to get into Pattaya. I live just around the corner from this place in Wongamat and i would be happy to help give ou any kinda directions when you get here. Sanctuary of Truth is just around the corner and some really good Thail restaurants aswell. You can ride on an elephant at Nong Nooch if you want to and im sure there is an elephant park along Sukhomvit road aswell as the floating market
  20. So what made you change from here to Skytop/ This place has a life also
  21. Is that the best you have? What a cunt, no sorry - what a useless cunt. Such a shame you cant afford to live in Thailand
  22. Dont forget to wear your chang vest
  23. Nutsof, i was on the beach today and clocked this number on a Thai boat advertising fishing trips. Might be worth a call if you are still interested. 081 429 8774
