  1. I don't know anything about the LG, but I've had a Samsung Series 7, which is pretty much like the Series 6 except it has certain features for certain Web access, I believe. Anyway, I'd buy one again, or maybe an LED model. By the way, the 25,000 baht price seems to be pretty good. How much would it cost you to bump up the size to 46" or 52"?
  2. It's amazing what a good home theater sound system can do to improve the experience. It can get expensive, though. Receiver, subwoofer, center channel, and the left, right and surround speakers. Throw in a Sony Blu Ray player or Playstation III and you're all set.
  3. If you work for four more years, do all those numbers increase? It is what it is, I guess, but perhaps you should plan on 40 baht per pound. Or at least consider the possibility.
  4. Phuket's major problem is the lack of a cheap, reliable public transportation system. I always stay where I can walk anywhere I want to go and before I arrive, I have my transportation arranged from the airport to my hotel or guesthouse. After that, I just ignore all the tuk tuks and taxi guys. And if I ever lived here, I'd just buy a little Honda Jazz or something like that.
  5. America is a big place with lots of different people, so it's hard to generalize. But, I wouldn't mind having some people around that I had something in common with, whether they were from America or Europe, etc. A good mix makes it more interesting.

Everyone always says Phuket is "too expensive," but I just don't see it. The above poster is right about the tuk tuks wanting 200 baht, but then again, if you stay where you want to be, you don't need them. Other than that, Phuket isn't that bad. I can only remember one time, about 10 years ago, when I went into a restaurant and one of the waitress girls didn't know what I was talking about. But there were three or four other girls there, too, so it wasn't a problem. Otherwise, I've always been understood when I order in every restaurant I've ever set foot in. Yes, the tailors can be a p

    Phuket

Phuket has many many hotels that would be suitable for families. Patong Beach has most of the night life, but even there it's possible to get away from the mongering scene if you just distance yourself a bit from Bangla Road. Some of the other beach areas might be even better for a family. Karon Beach, Kata Beach, etc. Of course, the sky is the limit as to what you can pay. As for the Soi Honey type massage places? All over. Try Soi Kepsup, in Patong Beach.
  8. Pattaya has its moments, but I've come to the conclusion that I wouldn't want to live there permanently. A few months here and there, fine. But as a place of permanent residence, I don't think so. A few years ago I retired and was going to move to Thailand. But after a while I concluded my life would be simpler if I kept a place in the states and just traveled when I wanted to. For example, I'm staying in Thailand for six months this trip. Maybe I'll come back in the fall, or maybe I'll go somewhere else for a few months or so. For me, that kind of arrangement makes more sense.
  9. Back in the states I had a Series 7 Samsung and a few Sonys. At the time, I bought the best I could buy, but as usual they keep jumping up the specs. Now, the latest thing, last time I looked, was LED. Samsung has new LED models. Also, look at the refresh rate. Given the rare at which things seem to be changing, why not go for a cheaper middle of the road model?
  10. Sounds like a decent deal for all that space.
  11. I remember one time I booked a hotel room in Bangkok through Priceline. It was one of those deals where if they accept your bid, you just bought yourself a room. Anyway, I knew going in that I wouldn't be able to get my money back in the event I couldn't make the trip. Sure enough, I couldn't make the trip. I never thought to bitch about it, as that was part of the deal. No refunds.
  12. I never really look at this tread. I take it that, after 63 pages, it's about more than airplanes being behind schedule?
  13. Sabai Lodge has some nice pools, and, depending on the time of the year, you might be able to get a deal. The only drawback, in my mind,is the lack of free Wi-Fi. Maybe they've changed that by now. Anyway, there's no excuse in this day and age for not having free Wi-Fi.
  14. I just came here on NWA/Delta a few weeks ago. Connected in Detroit to Tokyo (747-400) and then to Bangkok on an Airbus A320. The Airbus was a nice plane. Anyway, the R/T flight was $1110, and I'm here until July. I suppose I could have saved some money by flying to LAX and then taking China Air, but I already have a lot of NWA miles, so I might as well keep using them until I can get a free trip.
  15. Once upon a time, I bought a Western Digital "Passport" USB drive. As I recall, it came with encryption software. If you wanted, you could store files and folders in a folder that was password protected. I din't have anything I wanted to "protect" except a bunch of music files, so I didn't bother to fool with it. But surely, there's a way to encrypt sensitive files and folders.
  16. Assuming your old computer works, I think there's a way in Windows to create a network and connect the two computers with an ethernet cabe. Then, with your new computer, you could access your old hard drive. Then again, maybe you knew that?
  17. My little brother used to have an Ebay store, and once in a while someone from Thailand would order something. Often, the shipping costs were almost as much as the cost of the item. And that didn't include the customs hassle.
  18. I assume you carry around an EpiPen or something similar? Anaphylactic shock can be serious. I get that once in a while, but no one has ever figured out what I'm allergic to. I just take my chances and try to eat stuff I've eaten in the past without trouble. So far, I've never had trouble in Thailand. Some Japanese food just about did me in once, though. Anyway, I wouldn't let a peanut allergy stop me from traveling. If necessary, you could always eat at McDonalds or someplace like that. It wouldn't kill you (probably not).
  19. Six day visa? I didn't know there was such a thing. Citizens of many countries get a 30 day visa waiver on arrival at the airport. Or, you can get a regular tourist visa which allows for 60 days on arrival and which can be extended for 30 days. I think they can do that at the Jomtien immigration for 1900 baht.
  20. I've used Agoda.com and sawasdee.com without any problems.
  21. -Excellent security. -In-room Wi-Fi -Good location -Breakfast available
  22. It's simple. If you don't like the price, just stay elsewhere. In any event, there's no reason to pay 1300 baht in Pattaya.
  23. I'm just giving you a hard time. Pay no attention. In British Pounds, the price may be good. But in US dollars, that's a lot of money for a condo in a politically unstable country. I could go to Florida and buy a repo for that, and I wouldn't have to worry about someone taking it away from me at some point. So, at 1.5 million baht, no thanks. At 800,000? I might take a look. Let's come back to this thread in a year, shall we?
  24. I don't have one yet, but if I did it wouldn't matter to me if I couldn't download songs from I Tunes. You can still put ITunes on your computer and load up all your own music, either from CDs or other MP3s you have. And with all the pirate CDs in Thailand, why worry about whether or not you can pay for songs from Apple? In any event, the things are neat simply for the Wi-Fi capacity. Browse the Web, check emails, etc. I think you can also download Skype onto the thing.
  25. I'd be interested in knowing if this place sells at or above the asking price. The location is nowhere near the beach, right? My estimate: 800,000 baht.
