Use it all the time. Good location and good value for money. Buy the VIP card at 350 baht and the room rate comes down from 1300 a night to 990 for the basic room. The rooms are a good size although some are getting tired, but theres little else around in the value for money stakes. Use either of the laundries outside the hotel, and get your water and beer from the corner shop. The room service menu is ok and not expensive.

If you are staying at the Royal Twins I would recommend you get down to Soi Pattayaland 1 as its only 5 mins walk from the hotel. There are 3 bars that offer golf (from memory it works like this) Sugar Shack - play Mon, Wed, Fri - itinerary on the board in the bar. Mainly expat Brits. If it says leave at 9 and you you arrive at 10 seconds past you should be able to spot the bus going down the road. Mulligans - play Sun, Tues, Thurs - itinerary used to be on board by pool table. Probably the friendliest bunch - expat Brits and Irish- once you get to know them - but they don't like taking loads of people so you may not be able to get a game in high season ( same applies to Sugar Shack a bit) Lewinskii's - play Sun, Mon, Wed, Fri - itinerary on board at back of bar- slightly different crowd, alot of expats from Malaysia, Vietnam etc in Pattaya on R & R. But many good guys. You are included in any competition here as well. If you join Lewinskii's you will have to join the International Pattaya Golf Club or you can join the Pattaya Sports Club. Lewinskii's will do the IPGC membership for you, PSC you will have to sort yourself and will be paying full green fees until you do. http://www.pattayasports.org/golf/Golf%20Home.htm The costs for each organisation are similar 700 baht ish for a year. You will normally save that amount in green fees if you play twice. This is the cheapest way to play and the way I would recommend if there is only a few of you. You'll get to meet others and play with different people - which is nice. The problem is that if there are alot of people going out (and there has been 70+ with Lewinskii's) it can make a very long day of it. ie Leave at 9.30 tee off at 12 home at 6. You could organise your own transport - Sow Laundry near the Royal Twins has Baht bus contacts, or you can go out with many of the golf companies around Pattaya. You should get picked up from your hotel in an aircon mini bus taken to the course, everything sorted for you and have a driver waiting when you have finished. Much more time efficient, much more personal, much more cost. If theres only a few of you, it becomes expensive and boring playing in the same group day after day. However, there are usually other small groups about and you can join up with them and mix it about a bit. I have no experience of Doghaus but from memory Solar Golf's prices were very competitive and I do know Ken and he knows alot more about the courses than I do . So you pays your money takes your choice. Theres loads of other bars running days but I have no experience of them they, may be better they may be worse, bit like the girls really. I would recommend you play Laem Chebang, Khao Kheow, Crystal, Bay, Mountain Shadow, Bangpra, Treasure Hills, Green Valley and St Andrews 2000 ( Although you should play off 18 or less for St Andrews). Phoenix is ok and close Burapha always in good nick and Pluatualuang is tough. Theres no really bad courses around. Hope that helps and I will be in the Royal Twins in January!! Attached picture of 17th at Khao Kheow - a copy of the 17th at Sawgrass

Odd I stayed at Flipper Lodge last christmas and there was no extra charge for guests. I booked mine as part of a package deal as well. In fact they were probably the most secure hotel I've stayed at as they even used to phone the room when guests went to pick their cards up just to check everything was OK. Moan alot see if that does the trick.

I stayed at the Woodlands last year, nice hotel. It was part of a package but it was made clear with the agent there weren't going to be any joiner fees. The hotel was aware of that and didn't try to charge us , in fact I got a double room and 2 breakfast coupons per day (do bar girls know what breakfast is??). Only problem was one night a stroppy receptionist refused my girl entry to the hotel because of what she was wearing - (not alot in all honesty). She went home got changed, was let in, went to my room and took it all off so a big win for Thai logic there. I think someone had a word because it didn't happen again. I think the thing is they want to to promote the hotel as a family hotel but are prepared to take anyones money out of season.

Stevo thats not news, its not just golf either. Putting a gold chain around a Thai Girls neck increases performance dramatically. as does even the promise of a gold chain. If you put a gold chain round your neck it 'll increase your performance in any bar or go go in Thailand. Gold has had many magical effects throughout history and this is another example. There are other metals that have an effect.

If anyone is interested I have booked a room at the Royal Twins 16th - 30th Dec and don't need it any more. I haven't cancelled it yet as I thought it may be transferrable if someone needs it. Contact me if you're desperate and we'll see what we can do. With all the supplements and shit it averages about 1000 baht per night. Good hotel good location. I also had a flight reserved business class with China Air from Heathrow (via Schipol) but I'm not too sure what happens there.

I thought Mulligans played different courses every week except sundays when they play Siam CC. However Lewinski's play Green Valley every Sunday IPGC schedule http://www.ipgolfclub.com/schedules.htm

Stableford Scoring System
wobbly_1 replied to saigon_butterfly's topic in RideHer Cup Planning and Discussion
Stableford is designed so you take your handicap off each hole rather than your total score. The aim is to score as many points as possible but if you play to your handicap you should score 36 points (2 each hole). It means you can have a 10 on a hole and still have a good round as any net score over a bogey scores 0. Echster what you describe is a modified sytem pros use in some competitions and yes it rewards aggressive play. Standard Stableford is thus (This is easier with a scorecard in front of you) Double bogey or higher= 0 points Bogey = 1 point Par = 2 points birdie = 3 points eagle = 4 points albatross = 5 points This your NET score after you've taken your handicap off For example 2 players, Player 1 handicap 18 and Player 2 handicap 28 play a hole which is stroke index 10 and is a par 4. Player 1 gets one shot, Player 2 gets 2 shots (Handicap system) Player 1 scores Par (4) Player 2 scores double bogey(6) Take your shots off Player 1, 4 scored minus his one allowed shot = 3 (net Birdie)= 3 Stableford Points Player 2 6 scored minus his two allowed shots = 4 (net Par) = 2 Stableford points and you go round each hole applying the same logic. Confused - so am I - ask a caddy!! This one was good -
Hilly Best advice I can give is go and play a couple of rounds at Phoenix and hire some clubs off them. Their hire clubs are Taylor Made RAC irons and R580 woods - these are amongst the best 'game improver' clubs on the market. Play with those a couple of times and it should show you how far things have come since you Petrons. You can play with the latest equipment, without having to splash out on new stuff yourself - I believe Phoenix charge 600 baht for hire clubs but it may be more. Lastly, there is a case for saying that anyone who plays off more than 14 should' nt have a driver in the bag anyway as it is by far the most difficult club to try and hit.

I have to agree with ff29 all the big name manufacturers clubs I've seen in Thailand are more expensive than at home. There are very good copies about which are cheaper , but I wouldn't like to guess the quality. Personally I've bought a secondhand set at home and left tham in Pattaya.

Just got EVA Air Evergreen from westeast travel for 640 pounds (inc Taxes) on the dates you want, so I would have thought economy would be alot cheaper. Try China Air they go to Amerstdam first but have been ok for me and are usually cheap.

Club rentals + golf venue
wobbly_1 replied to Keith_h's topic in RideHer Cup Planning and Discussion
As Rappongi says the courses will rent you clubs but bring your own shoes (same as Thai condoms one size doesn't fit all). The best course for rental was Phoenix virtually brand new Taylor Made's - also the closest to Pattaya. As for the Faldo and Player courses ( I assume you mean Sri Racha and Century} these aren't the best courses because theres not been much money spent on them - not since I played anyway. Hope this helps -
Go to FLB have a few beers!!!!! When you come out on the opposite side of the rd slightly to your right there are some stalls I bought a pair of bi focals there for 150baht they are the best glasses I have. I did go to Top Charoen in Mikes Shopping Mall and have a delightful little girl called Annie get me a set for 2800 baht but the ones from the stall were better.

Think you'll find Pete won't accept Yahoo or Hotmail addresses as they could be from people based in Thailand eg Police, bargirls etc
