Death of a Shopping Mall: A Rant
Emil replied to MeGoDanceNow's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Well they have plenty of unleased space to accomodate them. I would rather see it located at the Avenue than its present location. Nice dinner and then a movie at the same location. -
You'll need your passport. When I opened my account at Bangkok Bank about 4 1/2 years ago I only needed my passport and I was in LOS on the 30 day entry stamp. When I took my friend to the same branch about a year ago he also was in LOS on the 30 day stamp and they told him that he needed to go to the Immigration office to get some form. Was told by a close friend who lives in Pattaya to take him to the Kasikorn branch at the Royal Garden as they weren't asking for any form and he was able to open an account. As long as you make a withdrawal from your banks ATM you'll not pay any fees so b

Death of a Shopping Mall: A Rant

No they didn't. You should have been happy because Vientiane moved to Walking St just a very short distance from FLB. I liked the location on Walking St as you could enjoy your meal next to the Gulf and after dinner you were right on Walking St. I don't know why they closed that location. -
Death of a Shopping Mall: A Rant

Your still a little confussed. They're now selling tickets on the 3rd level next to the enterance of the bowling allies. The snack bar and cinemas are located on the next level up. Yes TukCom and from I've read on another board they jacked up the rents and one of the guys that is moving to the Avenue posted that over 100 are making the move. Whether the Ave can entice Immgration to located there, I for one will be happy whether they are located at Centeral or the Ave. as long as they are processing Retirement extensions. -
Death of a Shopping Mall: A Rant

Don, Just a couple comments. When did the movies shut down as they were up and running at the beginning of Dec? I heard that ComCity has jacked up the rent and that many retailers there are moving to the Ave as their current leases expire. Also heard that Pattaya Immigration is considerering opening a satillte office at either Centeral or the Ave. If they can fill the place up with retailers from Com City and lease out space for immigration then hopefully that can either get rid of that night market or at least cut bak on the numbers. -
Old Cherry Bar Girl Offering Airport Taxi Service
Emil replied to MC_Ldop's topic in Transport in Thailand
It sounds like she not just a driver but also running a car service. Funny thread. We got some BMs that are concerned about the legality of the service yet I'm pretty sure that they been customers in the past of Thai working girls and I don't believe that prostitution is legal in LOS. -
It been about 3 years since I last took the bus, then they were leaving every 30 minutes. They had busses that went to the Mochit and Ekamai stations so make sure you purchase the desired ticket. Also if you show up a few minutes for let say the 7 AM bus it could be sold out and you'll have to wait for the next one.

If your going to be there for awhile then why have have it installed if everything else meets your standards? There are 3 internet providers that I'm aware in Pattaya: TOT, True Vision, and another called something like 3db.

I certainly wasn't trying to hype the place, just pointing out that they might have other types of rooms at a lower price. Also for other BMs who are not familiar with the monthly rate charges of hotels in Pattaya and what is included in the price as they are not the same. Certainly for you and even me the electric charge is not much of an issue. The place where I mentioned that someone had an electric bill over 7K for a month I stayed at the same place for over 2 years and my average was only 800 baht a month. I'm from the Sacramento Valley were temps can reach 110 in the summer while the

In all fairness the 27 K was for the delux superior room. Also when dealing with monthly rates one must make sure they're not comparing apples with oranges. Some rates everthing is included in that you get daily housekkeping, complimentary bottled water, electric and water. While others monthly rates you get reduced level of housekkeping or none at all. Your paying for bottled water and even toilet paper. Your also paying to clean your bedding and towels. The biggest cost will be your water and electric useage. I knew one guy that liked his room cool and when he got his monthly bill it

Not only the entertainment costs but also costs for lodging, eating and laundry will be less as you've got the wife/TGF doing the cleaning, laundry and food preparation instead of eating out, sending your laundry out and paying for housekeeping.

Tom I also heard about a light rail project running fron Naklua to Jomtien.

Besides the award ticket I got for myself this coming Jan/Feb I got a ticket for a friend in Mar/Apr and he's flying Las Vegas to LAX on UA and then LAX to BKK nonstop on Thai Air. From BKK to Narita on Thai Air, then Narita to SFO on ANA and then to Las Vegas on UA. On my current trip to Pattaya my luggage didn't make the connecting flight to BKK and was delivered the following day. I contacted UA customer service and they deposited 15k miles into my account for the inconvience.

Kudos to BigD for giving us BMs a good value for the baht recommendation on the Hilton, there are some BM's who have the foolish opinion that one must actually look inside the hotel before they can make an evaluation. Also good job on telling us BMs the cost per day as some BMs will stay in a hotel many times without telling us what they pay.
-
This past Oct I used 65K United miles for a R/T to BKK from Sacramento, departing on the 11th of Jan. I'll be flying on Singapore, Thai, Thai and UA on that trip. Since I'm retired I do have alot of flexibilty when booking flights.

Hub it may actually be good value for Denny. In the past I asked him how much of a discount he received and what he paid for his room. I never got a price from him so maybe he's getting a discount from all his hyping of the place and only paying 100 baht a night. what I do know is that when Jack stayed there in early 2006 for about 7 months waiting for his condo to be completed, he paid I believe it was 18K a month which is definetly not good value.

Vic, I don't need to jump off a high building to know that its going to be a painful landing. Not only have I stayed at many Pattaya hotels, apartments, mansions and etc since I first came to Pattaya, but when I use to walk everyday with Soi 7 we would stop at many places that appeared to be for those on a budget and he would take photos and post info on this board for those interested. I would honestly say that Skytops would rank last on any that I've personally stayed or looked at. Not only based on cost but also on value. My job with the Air Force before I retired was a cost/budget anal

Must be pressure from the Dr's union. Since tourist numbers are down they want some additional revenue. When I first got my retirement stamp in 2006 one needed the letter from the Dr. Cost me around 200 baht I believe to have my blood pressure taken and Dr Belem filling out the form letter. That requirement was discontinued shortly thereafter.

Simply Amazing, this is what Big D wanted us to stop by and check out. If I didn't know better I would say that Tom missled the BMs with his photos of the place when he did his review awhile back. Vic I know your a movie buff and after seeing your latest photos it reminded me of a famous movie quote. The movie was before your time along with the famous actress who delivered it. Let me see if you can come up with the quote. Here's a hint. The actress was also mentioned in a 70's rock song and no it wasn't Norma Jean.

I think that not only do some of the requirements vary from each office but also who's manning the station on a particular day. They asked me this past August.

1. Your passport 2. Passport photo 3. Copies of your info page of your passport, copies of your last arrival stamp page and copy of your departure card. If they want more you can get copies made outside of the immigration office 4. 1900 baht 5. Thai bankbook along with letter from the bank dated that day verifying your account. (cost about 150 baht) 6. If your using income for all or part of the financial requirement then you'll also need the letter from your Embassy. (cost at US Embassy $50) 7. Proof of where your living. Rental agreement, ownership book or recent bills from your

One of the things one should also consider is their frequent flyer program if one flys often and which other airlines do they partner with. I like United because I've gotten about 16 free flight over the past 6 years. I get free use of any Star Alliance lounge and also when you use your miles you can fly not only on United but also their partners. I've flow with Singapore, Thai, ANA and air Canada and just last month I booked a flight for a friend and one leg of the trip he's flying Thai Air nonstop from LAX to BKK.

Regarding what one pays at a specific hotel is only part of the equation. I found out that when you stay and the length of your stay will also come into play on the cost of your room. I have stayed at the Eastinny Place a total of 4 or 5 times and I only paid 650 a night. That was back in 2002/2003 and I stayed at least 3 weeks on all occassions and never around Xmas and New Years. One time after I had checked in I went back downstairs to put my valuables in their lockbox and a customer was complaining why he was being charged 800 baht a night. I didn't say anything and after he left the

A big factor in determining the price per day is your length of stay. The longer the better.

Here's another option that you might look into. I've never looked into the option but a neighbor who's an Aussie told me that he's planning on getting travel insurance. He said that one must go home twice a year and not stay away longer than 6 months. Another friend of mine who is also an Aussie and about 70 years old got kidney stones a little over a year ago. Stayed in a private room at PIH for over a week and his travel insurance picked up the bill. He also only stays here for about 5 months and then goes back to Austrailia for a month.
