  3. Agreed. Got tipped this place and it was indeed crap.
  4. I wouldnt buy cigs from any street vendors in Thailand. The best way is to buy from duty free in London or in Middle East if you have stopover there. As already stated you can only bring 200 into Thailand. If you do decide to risk it, put in hand luggage but dont be greedy as they look for hand luggage that is stretched full. I personally would just bring the 200 and when run out just smoke Marlboro lights from 7-11
  5. Thanks for the update Dennis. So they have refurbished the rooms but kept the shitty old televisions with the appalling picture quality. Next thing you'll be telling me is they havent replaced the jiz stained carpets
  6. The pig and whistle without a shadow of doubt. Nice air conditioned atmosphere with BBC news on the telly. The breakfast is top notch-English sausages, Heinz baked beans, lean bacon and a good mashing of Tetleys Tea. I also like Loaf on Soi Lengkee, again nice air conditioning and the breakfast very good with lots of homebaked bread.
  7. Mr Controller Please could you copy those photos on facebook and post on here. cheers
  8. I have only been a couple of times and the food was good but due to all the second hand books the place smells like a jumble sale
  9. Ive flown from Manchester on all of my 12 trips and here are my top tips. 1. No direct flights from Manchester but Emirates, Qatar and Etihad are all good airlines. Do not have a stopover in the Middle east for more than 3 hours 2. Try and get an evening flight from Manchester therefore arriving in the evening in Pattaya. The early morning flights arrive early morning and this can be very tiring, cant get in your room till 1 etc etc 3. The best site in my experience is Travelsupermarket which encompasses most of the good sites, Southall, Netflights, Ebookers etc. Flight prices change da
  10. In your pedanticism you miss the point I was making If you are so condident to state "You must be mental if think Man U have even the slightest chance of winning" then it is worth a bet. If Butterflyblonde fancies a bet I think he may be able to get evens on Barcelona. The first bookie I could think of was William Hills, hence the 10/11 quote. If you state "You must be mental if think Man U have even the slightest chance of winning" you are confident enough not to rely on extra time or pens therefore 10/11 is far better odds than the 4/9 you quote which is poor odds for a football match.
  11. If you shop around you will be able to get Barcelona at evens Just found them at 10/11 at Bill Hills http://sports.williamhill.com/bet/en-gb/be...ons-League.html If you are so confident to come out with a statement like that in a 2 horse race, you must be mental if you don't back Barcelona
  12. I always find the Pig and Whistle to be very good; the ambience is very much 'big screen sport' and the food very English but the standard is very good, as is the service. If you are looking for more of a restaurant than a pub, I would highly recommend 2 places in the Soi Diana area. Patricks Belgian Restaurant offers traditional flemish cuisine as well as excellent steaks. If your friend likes falang food, the Chateaubriand is a superb fillet steak to share that I would recommend. I can't comment on their Thai food as I have never sampled it here. I also like the Beefeater restaurant, exc
  13. Nice piece of research Tom, shame Frostie didnt/couldnt do the same, or perhaps it was another case of 'Friendly Fire'. Again
  14. The PBG is without a shadow of a doubt the best bar in Pattaya IMHO, a personal favourite of mine, I visit every night when I am in town and usually stay for at least an hour or two. The draught Tiger is very well kept and this coupled with great views and classic British rock and pop from the 70's and 80s make for a great relaxing night. But................. If I am honest I have ALWAYS found the food to be poor and at best avearge. At first I thought it was me because of the enthusiastic recommendations from many people on this site who seem to rate the snap highly. Because of that I per

  16. Does the baht bus go all the way down there?
  17. Bradford, West Yorkshire. Birthplace of Frederick Delius, JB Priestley and the Bronte sisters. Former industrial powerhouse of the empire, now heroin capital of Europe. The only people who ever missed Bradford were the Luftwaffe
  18. Plenty of bars and cafes that sell beer. I always come to LOS with Etihad departing from Manchester and changing in Abu Dhabi, which is the capital city of United Arab Emirates. Obviously for every trip to LOS I change in Abu Dhabii twice. It makes the United Arab Emirates by far my most visited country on the planet, without ever setting foot on its soil!
  19. Any update on the anouncement??
  20. Yes Play them at their own game. Stop moaning about the noisy girls and music, go back to England if you think its bad in Thailand.
  21. Just booked with this new airline
  22. Gabor, How refreshing for a board member to actually answer the question and take time to go out of his way to help a fellow member. Far too many on this board see themselves as mods and answer sensible questions and queries with the 'use the search facility' attitude. Well done mate
  23. Taxis from the airport rank will assume you are a newbie and quote you something like 1800 baht, they are just trying it on. As you leave the airport get in the first taxi that will take you for 1200 if they say 1400 get in but dont tip them. Ive never used Mr T but have used Mr Dream and the taxi was waiting for me, the car was clean and new and the journey smooth. I think he charged me 1100 baht so I gave the driver a decent tip
  24. Im staying at the Areca at the moment. The noisy building work seems to have finished but the new wing looks far from complete. Its 1300 baht a night which is expensive as the town is quiet and most hotels have offers on ( saw one guest house yesterday at 400, most are about 750-850) As ive said on here before, the Areca is getting a bit grubby; the rooms could do with a lick of paint and new towels, tiles in bathroom need cleaning, the rear swimming pool still has tiles missing from the bottom and the loungers and sun shades are tatty. Despite this I am still here, I haver looked at other h
