  1. Think the op wanted to draw our attention to the clash....... There was a time when a British team might have been very strong..........Even now it may be......Thinking of Bale here...... But all of us want to protect our individuality. It's more a case of we'll never agree than a refusal. As it is, woefully poor as Scotland are they are improving and they will play well against England. They hate us even more now Sturgeon is fuelling old grudges and nurturing new ones.
  2. OK back on topic....nearly. These boxes are great.....and Chas has been fantastic about sorting out any issues for me. Updates are posted on Facebook but as I'm not on FB Chas has been really helpful inviting me, (and when I'm there I meet others) to his home. I take my box have a cup of tea and leave with the thing twitched to perfection. I'm thinking of getting a new updated more powerful box but frankly the one I have does it's job so well I'm not sure there's any point. Anyway get one jacko....... Chas' number again is..0806447814.
  3. Great.......
  4. But she did shag MR Ed ....right?
  5. After looking it up I still have no clue.... Discovered half of the cast have died.... Morticia, (who I would have), has gone....Lurch has left us in the.....oh never mind! Lisa Lorring, (whoever she is) after a brief but torrid affair with Mr Ed, married a pornstar so presumably she's getting her oats and is trotting along happily. Apparently for our pornstar name we use our first pets name and out first street address........Typically I'm 'Snowy Bell' Sounds like a gay pornstar to me. Snowy Bell 'end' might work better. Any good porn names thrown up out there?
  6. Mr Ed's 'wife' was a scary horse.....he called her 'Nightmare' The recent general theme of this thread has been animal stars/nostalgia........Soo to see if Martin cuts us......here's something completely unconnected.....Although some say he is a bit of an animal...... Without looking it up.....What's Ginger baker's first name? Bet you a SML you don't know that one Jacko!
  7. You're too young to know such things.
  8. Looks good.......Right next door to my dentist. And a good spot to watch the world pass by.
  9. Like it that she was 'Fury'..ous.... That's 'champion,' as we say in the North of England...... Now who sang, 'Champion the Wonder Horse?' Did Rawhide too?
  10. Elizabeth Taylor of course...was in two of the Lassie films.........and that one with the race horse.....What was it? Flicker? Fury? Black Beauty? Skippy?......Michael Jackson?? Anyway she looked good in Cleopatra.....Who they think was Greek you know!
  11. One of the audience in the opening shots was in a football team I ran....He died about a year later....Only 18. It's the reason I was sent this. Yes the 'song' itself was ground breaking and as deeply meaningful as most of today's chart.
  12. In that case.........last night I was waiting in for someone......And looked for Rin TinTin.......But couldn't find it ......So watched, 'The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel...........What a lovely film!! They got it shot quickly before the cast pass away. Considering that it was as good as the first with some classic dialogue. Makes a change from my usual shoot 'em up stuff. Recommend it.
  13. Just a memo to MM...... If this thread is anything to go by, we could do with an 'Impossible to derail thread'.....Something that just goes where it will......As long as people keep it reasonably polite....It can roll on and on. What do you think?
  14. I've seen 4 versions of that now..I like this one. George perks up when the straw skirts arrive. Thanks.......watching that has taken the weight of the world off my shoulders. I remember whistling it loudly at 6.45 in the morning when i delivered The Asher's paper in Wimple Street......Hoping Paul would be flattered and I'd get a decent Christmas tip. Never did. To move as far away from the Beatles as possible without playing '50 Cents' ..... and to show off my musical taste here's a song that means a lot to me......... From the days when you could get away with stuff like this.........Here's my group. ......I'm doing the 'Scratching'....Torque comes out in the gold suit and does his sexy thing.......Oh how we smiled and egged on the older dancers....We got a gig at The Bamboo just after this......Heady days......
  15. Don't blame you......Americans have a problem with the pronunciation of 'Aluminium' We had a similar problem When COCO the Clown was taken over by another sponsor and became 'Horlicks the Clown'......tasted funny apparently!!
  16. Lassie was American.......I think the subsequent dogs were all related to the first one. They used male dogs because bitches come on heat twice a year and lose their coats. By the way......Did you mean Fred Tuck? the fat Friar........ of 'Robin Hood' fame........ While we are tread tucking.......Did you know that Dick James who sung that bloody Robin Hood theme song became the Beatles' music publisher.........Ripped them off for a fortune...stole from the (then) poor and stuffed his pockets. They got about 2% of the dosh.
  17. Agree......Rinty ....or his stunt double meant business. As for Lassie, I was surprised to learn that all nine were katoys......
  18. No 'Rinty' was a dog attached to the 7th cavalry belonged to a kid bugler.....(Not Ikkrang).........That's all I remember. He was the male Lassie.....handy to have around when you got stuck in quicksand.
  19. I got mine from Chas......0806447841. Prices down now i gather. Recommend him highly. I'm going to see if I can find 'Rin Tin Tin' tonight.........See if I can remember why I liked it.
  20. Get a box. Best thing I ever did here.. Not female related Can watch everything from The Open the Ashes.... To old shows like Man from Uncle and the Prisoner or hancoks half hour. 5,000 baht end of. Ditched True in January... Now everything is free Free I tell you!! Sorry get carried away ...... I like my box thrown out nearly all my DVDs.
  21. Thanks..... Maybe my problem was with the file she sent me...... or the problem was the human interface. It was a stormy day maybe it upset that 'cloud' thingy!!
  22. I left my 'Nightingale' on a beach chair half-read.........on purpose. When I commuted by train to London........I'd go through 100s of books......Everything from certain authors. Douglas Reeman, Wilbur Smith, Ed MaBain, Tom Sharp......(Had me in stitches......especially 'Porterhouse Blue', Terence Strong, Roald Dahl, Frederick Forsyth, Asimov, Herbert........And loads of one offs...... Then I started to drive in.......hardly read another book except on holidays. I'm thinking of getting a kindle. How easily do they interface with MacBook Pros? Ex wife No.2 gave me one and sent me 1000s of free booksin a zip file ..........And the instructions to convert but I couldn't work it out. Sold the thing and deleted the file. But some publications are only available as ibooks........'Leather' for one...... so I'm sort of more 'incentif'fied' The way things are going books will soon just be things people put on shelves......I feel I'm being left behind.
  23. I enjoyed Black Ajax.......Flashman's governor appears in it as it's set in Regency England and you discover the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. The American Champ comes over to give our homegrown champ some facers. Flashy's dad being the matchmaker. Fraser found it hard to get it published in the US too much use of the word niggers.......But it's the word they used then and the central character is drawn sympathetically. When I was over in the UK a year ago I bought a load of 'Flashman' books by other authors Flashman and the Seawolf is one Flashman and the Cobra another.........haven't gotten round to them yet. You can find them on Amazon.......I doubt they will be a good as GMF. You know he wrote the first of the series in 90 hours!! There's a new Stephen Leather in the shops now but the large edition is over 700 baht.........I'll wait. But if you like McNabe and Ryan you'll enjoy his "Dan Spider character...............I 'm considering re-reading LOTR I haven't read it since I finished it at the Rolling Stones concert in Hyde Park just after Brian Jones died........Almost 50 years ago. I want to read it again before it becomes a matter of urgency. I'm almost embarrassed to admit this but my favourite series....next to Flashy is the Modesty Blaise collection. Peter O' Donnell could write thrillers as good as anyone. Reviews are constantly good. He even won awards writing 'chick fic' under the pseudonym of Madeline Brent. Modesty and Willy Garvin are terrific characters. More rounded than say Bond who we only pick up on in an adventure. But more far-fetched perhaps. They started out as a comic strip and this was to be turned into a film. O'Donnell wrote a screen play that was never used so it became the first book in the series.........Forget the shitty film. The book's dated but still fun. When in their last caper about a doz books on the series finally comes to an end I was actually moved. Whenever I come across a rare copy I buy it to pass on. Steven Pressfield 'The Gates of Fire'...( Battle of Thermopylae.........) is a true classic that's up for a re-read too.
  24. I'm actually considering sending next years school fees to Australia now. Just me thinking about it is good news for the Aus Dollar.
  25. An exceedingly good poem. The preferred authors presented up to kids don't seem to have changed much......... My son 16 in Oz has just last term studied, To Kill a Mockingbird and The Crucible. I agree about Austen.......Forcing 16 year old boys to plumb her depths puts many off. But while I say preferred authors don't change much.......And Atticus Finch is still going strong ..... White man's Burden?........Nowadays? I wonder if there's any place for Kipling anymore? Hopefully they still get the dirty bits of Chaucer and Byron............I'd offer Flashman as an option to Austen or Elliot and watch the boy's scores soar.
