Burqa's in Walking Street
Gawd Elpus replied to Grahamxxx's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Saudi Arabia 2002 next ....................................................................................... Not all Muslim countries are like saudi Arabia. So yes, not all Muslim countries. Now work your way through news stories from all the others. Whether you agree with their religion or not, and i do not endorse the involuntary wearing of religious costume, It is still their right under their religion to walk covered in walking Street and there is NO law against it. whether you or I may like it or not. What some seem to forget, is that there are many living in Muslim countries, who are compelled to abide by Muslim law. it is not a choice. Therefore it does not surprise me one bit that you find Arabs drinking alcohol in Pattaya. i would do the same, probably, just as a break from the norm. If prostitution was totally illegal in UK, would you call those that visit Pattaya and have sex with bar girls, hypochrits ?? of course not. The very same Arabs who are drinking, are not preaching their religion to us t the same time. Nor do they go walking around questioning our habits in Pattaya. They are just tourists like us. Like em, dont like em, who cares. Whether any of us agree or disagree with elements of their religion, it is their religion and not ours. most of us were brought up in Christian societies, but are now happy to dwell in Sodom and Gomorrah or Pattaya In our culture it is perfectly acceptable for women to dance naked and sell their bodies to us men, and even cool to exploit them when we wish. i wonder how far the double standards really extend to. They are opposite sides to a coin. Do I agree with women being covered ? No. But that also does not give me the right to change it. If you go down south and even places like Krabi town, you will see far more Thai Muslim women walking around covered. They are not bar girls either. We may have the right to object to it in our own countries, but we do not have the right to lay down the law when as guests in other countries. It amazes me at how so many western men go to work in Muslim countries getting paid, good tax free money, yet they choose to quite happily and accept the culture which they have placed themselves in. its a different story then of course Until there are any such laws in Thailand outlawing the full covering of women, then it is their right (or their husbands right depending on whether they choose it or adhere to their religious customs) If some are offended by a handful of women covered, in WS, go some place else, where you do not have to see it. Just as if you are offended by beggars and street hawkers, then dont go to beer bars. We are guests in Thailand, it aint our country and we dont have any say about the law. Capiche ????? So Atlas, man of the world, let me ask you this. if you saw a gaggle of catholic Nuns in full robes, walking along beach road, would you be outraged or offended ??? The principle of their dress is more or less the same. Now here is the real rub....................................................................just because many of us have abandoned the principles of our faiths, we expect others to follow. I wonder how Lord Jesus would have looked down on Pattaya, and what he would have said ?? But one thing I have learned is not to judge others before i judge myself and yes I am a filthy sex tourist or at least used to be Bring back King Richard the Lion heart to lead the crusades into the Holy land teach them our Christian ways. We are all fucking hypocrites in our own way. -

Not to the point of ruining my trip no. I am not that bothered by any of it. In the grand scale of things, I am more bothered if my morning coffee is not served piping hot -

Absolutely. One has to ask who are the indecent ones walking around Pattaya. Two extremes perhaps, but at least the covered woman is showing more decency than the farang louts walking around without shirts on and also disrespecting Thai culture. Perhaps as westerners, we should get our own house in order, before we start criticising other cultures for their dress codes. I also wonder how many covered Muslim women we see falling over drunk in the early hours of the morning and being sick everywhere . ??? I know who's company I would feel easier in, for sure -

I am sure that no country would tolerate chopping kids up and I dont think there are many Ugandan Witch Doctors about in Pattaya A burka as a bomb ?? how does that work, they would have pretty misshapen heads, don't you think ?? a bomb strapped to their face -

A far cry from 3 women wearing Burkas in Walking street, though. I dont think I have ever seen a Ugandan in Pattaya, but then I would not know for sure. Perhaps they are hatching a plot to invade They are Witch Doctors carrying out that vile practice BTW, nothing to do with Muslims. Uganda is predominantly a Christian country The Ugandans are none to fond of Gays either http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjnrLt3VuSM -

Nope, I don't believe it is right to flog a woman to death, and certainly have never heard of it happening in Walking Street. Whether one thinks it is right or wrong for some women to wear a Burka or not, it does not mean that they should not. It maybe outlawed in France, but it is not in Pattaya, to the best of my knowledge. Hence my original reply to the OP. I dont think that is being over sensitive, particularly as I am not a Muslim. It is just about freedom to wear as you wish in Pattaya. It may ruin one or two peoples holiday, but perhaps it is them that are being "over sensitive" rather than me You were the one that mentioned in your post about me being predictable. Should be no surprises there, and my right to post my views on a subject by reply. That is my prerogative. -

Someone has to be the voice of reason, although I think it is quite light hearted. No holy war here, or defence of Muslims. Were they being attacked then ???? I guess they must have been, if I am to come to the defence ????? Tell yer what, just for you, next time someone has a go at Muslims I will jump on the bandwagon and say what a jolly rotten lot they are, and how they should not be allowed to walk around in the same areas as the superior white Christian counterparts and how terribly offended by their appearance we should all be. How about having a big sign made up at the beginning of Walking street, saying "NO BURKAS TO BE WORN" or even better "NO ARABS" as the sight of them could seriously ruin your holiday Perhaps they should all be forced to hang around like this on Soi corners so that white sex tourists can wank themselves off over them ?? Then everyone will be happy. Maybe we should stop any woman we see wearing a burka and ask her to get her tits out ?? -

I am sure that they will have way of knowing who is who, especially in countries where it is common place for women to be covered. Otherwise as you say, it could be confusing if not interesting -

Opinions perhaps. but if she is happy to cover, who are we to question it. None of our God Damn business, if you ask me. Their religion, their business. If it takes the sight of 3 covered women to ruin a holiday, then that is something else. As far as I am aware, there is no formal dress code in Pattaya, and people can wear what the hell they like providing it is decent. They are paying to stay in Pattaya, just like everyone else, and have the right to wear what clothes they want, or what their husband wants, whichever the case. Take a trip up to Krabi town one day and you will see loads of Muslim Thai women covered too and some in Pattaya. Just because a person travels to another country, surely it doesnt mean that they have to change from what they wear in their own country. ?? If it upsets some to see it, then tough for them. Whether we as Westerners like it, is neither here nor there and if people dont like or offended by seeing Arabs in Pattaya, then they should fuck off elsewhere. Not all muslim women are forced to cover, and many chose to themselves, it is only ignorance that breeds prejudice. As long as the Thais accept it, then so should we, since we are also, just visitors. Some may frown on Western decadence too, ex tourism and the like, but there is space for all in the Metropolis. . -

It may ruin your fun, but it would hardly bother me what someone else is wearing. I am more offended by seeing farangs walking around in black socks and sandals, or swaggering into bars and restaurants with no shirts on TBH I am usually too busy looking at semi clad Thai ladies to notice what anyone else is wearing, let alone be bothered by it. Not everyone who visits Thailand is a sex tourist " I was having a great time, drinking in bars, shagging women, having a laugh with my mates, but then..........................................I saw a woman covered, in Walking street. It completely ruined my fun." well I wonder ??? -

A few of us went there about 18 months ago, it was not easy to find and whilst it was nicely decked out, it gave the impression of something better than it was. Not impressed by the girls and if I recall the beers were not that cheap either . After taking a while to find it, was a bit disappointed. It is right opposite a bus park the mamasan was very friendly and the most bubbly girl there (in red, and I think, married to the owner). My visit was a while back so it may well have changed since then -

I would agree. It congers up things like "Rent boy", "Bum boy", "gay boy" "house boy" and "boy George" and the "Pet Shop Boys" definitely gay.

I have not read anything further, but does anyone know the actual cause of his death ? He was still a young fella, although he slept rough most days. It is sad, that while there were those who showed him great kindness, there were others who abused him for his shortcomings and took pleasure from that abuse for a few measly baht The poor fella did not have much of a life, but a life it was. I hope to God, that he did not die of blood poisoning as a result of anyone tattooing him with a dirty needle. That would amount to manslaughter. They must have carried out some sort of post mortem by now, to establish the cause of death by, and I cannot believe that it was natural causes. He may have been a simple man, for whom life had not been generous, but he never really did anyone any harm. Some say that he was a police informer, whilst most just say he was a character around Soi 8 in need of food, a little care, and a few drinks at night. -
There are loads of free proxy sites, if you google "free proxy" The downside, is that your connection with be incredibly slow, and you may get spamming and pop ups. No one gives anything away for free and there is always the odd cookies, trojans and other malware that comes with it. So my advise is NOT to use your own computer for a start. The other option is to use firefox and add on the proxy facility. Still slow, but you can pick a proxy IP address which is hosted in a different country.

I would agree with the prices, but you get what you pay for and I would not use the word "Quality" when describing CDs. More like value for money perhaps. All the old codgers and nonses tend to eat in Seaside, who are renowned for their low priced roast dinners.

It is a pity that some British citizens still do not recognise "irony" or have the ability to read and digest all that is placed in front of them. There was a lot of balance in the posts about CDs. If you had noticed, I said that he has been there for well over 10 years and doing OK, where many other bars have perished. maybe those who slag off the "New Plaza" for its cheapness and so called "low life customers" might see a likeness to some of their own posts. In fact, Crazy Dave's is a sort of an Icon which represents some of the earlier days in Pattaya, before snobbery became vogue. Every one has heard of the place, everyone has past it, many have tried it and either like or dislike it. Yogi, where is the misfortune, you are talking about ?? I would have thought that if anything, Crazy Dave is very fortunate in being able to sustain a bar and restaurant at the low end budget. I am not a failed bar owner, but if I were, I would be the first to admit it and pass my experience onto others. 15 years ago, starting up a bar was a doddle, these days it can be a real liability. Crazy Dave has experience on his side, . and it is his only source of income, so if he is making a living, then good luck to him. I am not sure about the "Indian" reference, but there are plenty of well established Indian tailors scattered around Pattaya, but probably not doing quite as well as they used to. He is a real character in Pattaya, and anyone who has experienced his craziness will know Buying and running a bar is hard enough but you cant buy a sense of humour

I think he is more likely to be a guy that has failed in his own country due to mental health problems and Thailand is his last resort, as opposed to being taken into psychiatric care. I have seen a few of those types around in Pattaya for sure including those who have suffered mental breakdowns Not so bad for those who can afford and take their medication daily, but obviously not for this guy.

There was a Food Poisoning incident a while back too, and they claimed that it was a conspiracy http://www.pattayape...&IdArticle=5591 "Popular Bar Accused of Food Poisoning, What is the Motivation. Warin Lee Philips (Linda), Owner of Crazy Dave’s International Bar & Diner located in Soi Chaiyaphool, off Pattaya 3rd Road, went to Pattaya Police Station at noon on 2nd May to make a report on libel and being threatened by a foreigner. Mrs. Warin stated that on 19th April a European couple came into the bar for dinner in the evening and left at approximately 8.30 pm. Later at 1 am that night the husband returned to the bar claiming that his wife was in hospital due to food poisoning from the venue and demanded payment of 68,900 Baht as compensation. Mrs. Warin refused paying such an amount for something that the venue wasn’t responsible for, because she can guarantee that all the food served is clean and fresh. She said, “The wife might have had something not fresh somewhere else because there is no way that the food at Crazy Dave’s could be poisoning”. Later on the 28th April the same man returned and threatened that if Mrs. Warin refused to pay; he would expose Crazy Dave’s in a very bad way and ruin the venue’s reputation. He then spread out flyers in English saying: “Warning: Do not eat at Crazy Dave’s. My wife did and got food poisoning then was rushed to the hospital and stayed for 2 days, which cost 48,900 Baht. When I told him; he and his wife laughed at me.” “The message spread out was accusing my venue to be serving bad quality food, which is not true, and it is defamation. This is why I am here to make a report and requesting the officers to proceed according to the law with the man who defamed my restaurant” Mrs. Warin stated. The police recorded all statements and kept the example of the note as evidence and will search for the foreigner to invite him in for questioning at the station to find the truth of what had really happened. Pattaya People Media Group staff has many times dined at Crazy Dave’s and have always found the food to be of a very high standard. One could speculate that competitor restaurants would have a benefit in stirring up trouble like this for Crazy Dave’s who is very successful selling food and beverages at extremely low prices ". Had to laugh at that bit, they all eat for free there

Not only that, but Dave is not computer literate and hates them. He occasionally gets others to advertise for him, but he never posts or promotes his business via these forums, that is for sure, unlike Dave at the Canterbury Tales who gets fictitious customers to plug his gaff
