You caddy doesn't look that happy Ian. Don't tell me you'd just chipped in with a worm burner for birdie again?! Thanks mate. -

Shit, I just thought I was improving ... Seriosuly though, I noticed the same thing. Talking to the manager of my club tonight and he kindly informed me that all measurements at our course are to the front of the green, not the center. Don't know if there's any standard in LOS but maybe worth asking.

Cabbages and Condoms resort
Dungheap replied to jonnymars's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Stayed here for 10 days with the GF just a few weeks back and loved it. Huge gardens, private beach, large balcony, Jacuzzi etc. Here’s their web site with plenty of pics. We had a sea view deluxe which cost 3200 baht including a great breakfast buffet for two. Many people come here just to dine and the Thai food is top notch. The restaurant is three-tiered and extends down to the beach or the sunset bar which caters to large dinner groups. The name of this place put me off for years and even this time I had to tell the company I was staying at the Marriott. It’s owned by a prominent MP who does a lot of charity work for rural communities. Although the majority of the clientele here is couples and families I did see the odd bloke with a working gal and there seemed to be no problem. The location is a short 5-10 minute drive from Pattaya central (past the Residence Gardens, turn right at the Sugar Hut, turn left about 500 meters from there and drive to the end of the road) but you do have to charter baht buses and when they see you walking out of the resort ask for 150 and settle for 100. Not many alternative transport options apart from the suicidal bikes as the area has little traffic. The hotel has a few drawbacks: Two single beds joined together instead of a double. Dial-up Internet that's painfully slow. No direct dial calls from the room. Western food (sandwiches, pasta) was sub-standard. If you're into golf there's a driving range (Harold's) next door and the short Asia Hotel par-3 course across the road. There's other shops and bars out the front including a laundry and Free Drop, an Irish pub that offers ASDL Internet access. If you like to be away from the madness of Pattaya by day, and close enough to party by night, the hotel is ideal, otherwise, considering what you're paying, you may enjoy the Marriott more. Hope that helps. -
Warning!! newbie approaching.

Warning!! newbie approaching.
Dungheap replied to yusamile's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Welcome aboard mate. You'll find all sorts here from Ninja Nymphs to the original English Patient. You'll probably find much of the standard stuff has been covered before so run a search before asking what's ST, RG or VD. Cheers. -
Going Without a Reservation during Christmas
Dungheap replied to jakedsnake's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
You'll always find some sort of room, be it above a bar, a ST joint, or in the back streets, but why not book one now while you still have time? -
What's your budget? If you can afford it there's some great condo complexes with excellent ocean views from the Royal Cliff area down to Chomtien. Nice and quiet, good security, etc.

Looking for bicycle in Pattaya
Dungheap replied to Mikl777's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
We rented bikes recently from our hotel Condoms and Cabbages near Chomtien, 100 baht for 1-2 hours. The bikes were brand new mountain bikes with a bout 8,000 gears. There is a cycle path that runs for 4-5 kms near Chomtien. Naturally, this being Thailand, expect the usual obstacles -- patch washed away in storm, vendors, soi dogs, etc., but we had a blast. -
Good to see those driving and chipping tips I gave Taxi are paying off. But winning a comp with 32 points? Stone the crows

Dear Mrs Hilly, the easiest thing would be for some kind soul to just uplaod the photos, the clean ones that is, to Pattaya Pics. I believe that would take less time than emailing them one by one. Say hello to the Sponsor. SSB

Well said Hub, enjoy lads, but where the fuck's my camera??????????????

I stayed at the hotel above Mike's closer to Walking street many years ago when there wasn't much else around. It was dark and dinghy then and cost about 500 baht. Think you can do better.

We just played the Catz Open there. Can't recall what nine we played first but after four holes I had amassed the grand total of THREE stableford points and thought it was the toughest course in Thailand -- OB left, water right. Then things got a bit better. Many holes here are all about placement, hit 3 or 5 iron off the tee and play it safe. Don't know if it's the best course in the area but by the end of the day I was luving it. Laem Chabang also gets great reviews and is tougher with more water than fairways, or so I found it...

2 pm here local time and the Heavens have opened. Pissing down now for a good hour and the road out front of the hotel has been washed away. I kid you not. Emerging from the rubble of the Mother of all Hangovers! :frustrated but boy does it feel good After the Ashes meltdown it was good to see the Aussies help the Americans stuff the Euros! On paper it looked like a Euro walkover was on the cards but Captain Matty did a great job of firing up his team and a great day was had by all. Big thanks to Dodgie Doggie, Martin, Ben, Pete and everyone else for organizing a super event. On a personal note, I have to thank Taxi for carrying the team and for keeping the Dhaka Dongers undefeated. Memories of that great Bangladeshi golfer Greg Normanslipmeasingha come to mind. After we were lucky to salvage a half in the front nine, Taxi carried us to a four-up lead at the start of the back before Callum and Paul fought back to two down. Heading down 17 Taxi drives it OB, and I spray my drive to Burma. :frustrated Track it down with the help of a satellite and fire a five iron through the jungle to within 20 feet off the front of the green. The world's worst chipper hits it 2 feet and watches with fear as Paul lines up from about 20 feet off the back only to fluff it. Right enough of this shit, putter please caddy and I hit in to six feet and after Callum and Paul three putted the game was won. Another 100 baht off Callum will be framed and left in the bog at the FLB. Shot of the day went to Paul on the 9th. Stymied behind two trees with one foot in the bunker looking like he was trying to scale Everest he plays a superb draw around the trees to about 20 feet. Brilliant stuff. Today's bowling event has been washed away so Callum has tried to salavage some pride with a pool challenge. Will he ever learn? Thanks again mate for a top day. BTW, I don't think the Bangladeshis will be representing the US next year.

Great day at Phoenix had by all. Hilly pars the first two and Dungie and Taxi were looking for their rickshaw to make a quick exit but then things went pairshaped for the Motherland and the Dhaka Dongers, proudly sponsored by Bundaberg Rum, took control with some brilliant lob wedges that never went higher than three feet and screamed 100 yards past the green and a hot putter than actually sent a 40-foot putt 4 feet forward. Doggie and my singles event was our typical see-saw affair with Doggie courageously fighting back from 3-down before cracking under the pressure and suffering a humiliating 2-and-1 defeat. The 100 baht will be framed and autographed for charity. I'M LUVIN IT!

Get's you thinking Emil, if one airline can show 40 movies how come the other cheap bastards can only show ONE? Pathetic. For you guys flying out of the West Coast, despite its service faults UAL's milage program is hard to beat. Seems everyone gets upgrades! But that 6 am departure from BKK to NRT SUCKS snails scrotums! Never again. I once asked ANA for an upgrade, ther girl smiled, said OK, and then told me it would cost 30,000 miles or 90,000 yen.

SQ995 NRT-BKK SQ996 BKK-NRT I fly on Tuesday and will let yas know what I think. Many swear that economy in SQ is better than biz with the others. They also have three times the movies of other airlines.

Sailfast, can't help you with the equipment questions but Phuket has (post-tsunami had?) a healthy yachting scene centered around the King's Cup Regatta in December. The Japanese guys I sail with used to go every year and chartered through SunSail. One time they lost the yacht, a Benetton 40 footer, after it drifted off its anchor while they partied all night on Phi Phi. "PIRATES," they cried, only for the boat to turn up 6 weeks later off Malaysia untouched! Another yachtie I know, John the owner of Tradewinds on Chawang Beach in Samui, used to race from Pattaya to Samui. The new Marina complex in Pattaya seems bloody expensive but in time that should adjust.

I always fly ANA and have no complaints though this time will be flying with Singapore Airlines as they have a promotion for their new direct service to BKK (Used to go via Singapore). JAL portrays the image of Japan's national flag carrier but has been embroiled in a series of maintenance scandals of late and has been officially warned by the Ministry of Transport to pull up its socks. First Class and Biz with JAL is great but in economy they do pack 'em in. If you want more leg room why not ask for aisle seats or the bulkheads?

Pattana today. Newish course that is great.
Dungheap replied to HILLY's topic in RideHer Cup Planning and Discussion
Bruce, appreciate these reports, even if you always seem to win. How about a few pics next week? If it's past Pattaya CC, it must be one of the courses on Dodgie's Chang Mai tour. Are the caddies turbo charged, too?
