  1. EVA is usually very good at re-booking, at least that's been my experince. Give them a call and explore options.
  2. There are very many taxis that wll take you from PTY to BKK airport or the city for 800 baht plus tolls. From BKK airport to PTY is usually 1200 plus tolls.
  3. I rarely do buffets; I'd rather pay up for a very nice sit-down meal, and eat from street vendors to save some cash.
  4. Trade it in for Baht Bus.
  5. monkeyman, I think you're right. the baggage check-in process is not exclusive to EVA. it's LAX that has wrecked the process. makes a man not want to travel at peak periods. that was my experience in Oct 2005.
  6. Odds are it probably includes a hefty fuel surcharge due to the high price of crude oil. The fuel surcharge has almost doubled the tax on a LAX-BKK roundtrip ticket in the last 18 months.
  7. Don't forget the Ra-ming Lodge on Loi Kroh...
  8. I've been having trouble with .avi files. I get perfectly clear video, but sound is garbled. This has happened with all .avi files, not just from this site. I have been told I should re-load the application, but I cannot remember where I originally downoaded it. If a re-load is appropriate, would any member of the forum plaese share a safe, secure site from which I can download the application? Thanks in advance, MOOK

    Condo

I would like to wake up next to Tyra Banks. I have as good a chance at that as you do your condo search with your parameters...
  10. My guess is they'll get bigger again; what goes around, comes around.
  11. Also, if you did have not chicken pox as a child, I highly recommend getting this vaccine, too. Getting chicken pox as an adult is much more serious than getting it as a child.
  12. Hep A (requires 2 shots 6 months apart), Hep B (requires 3 shots, 1 additional shot 30 days after first shot, then 1 more shot 6 months after first shot), Tetanaus, Typhoid, Malaria (if you do a Hilltribe trek, recommended), Rabies is optional (a very expensive series, 3 shots at approx. $250 USD per shot; only 1 firm manufactures the vaccine at this time). I also recommend bringing Lapiromide (Immodium AD), and purchase 6 tabs of zithromax {250 mg} in BOOTS or any pharmacy for gastrointestinal distress. Take your Immodium as per instructions on box, use zithromax as follows: 2 tabs as soon as symptoms occur and 1 tablet every 24 hours until better.

  14. Samsonite: you're welcome; I would have to tell this, though. My flight earlier this week from TPE to LAX was the most turbulent I have ever been on. Even the flight attendants looked nervous. About 3 hours into the flight we get major league movement with zero warning from the flight deck. The most scary part was it's suddenness and the fact the intial movements were rhythmic. Made me think of mechanical failure. Never once throughout the numerous periods of bumps do they address the passengers. WTF? We had 4 more periods of shaking, but not as bad as the 1st one. I thought we were going down the first time; really. My guess is that very, very few planes go down as a result of turbulence; it doesn't make you feel any better when it's happening.
  15. http://747.newairplane.com this may get some flyers excited; works for me, as I hope to enjoy the same benefits I have experienced in the economy section of the 777-300ER replicated on the new 747-8's
  16. I do the "GI" shower thing at my layover Airport, usually in Taipei. I use antibacterial wipes to take a waterless shower in the men's restroom. I reapply deodorant and even shave if I have time. Works very well. I also change my t-shirt during the layover. This usually allows me to go straight out upon arrival. I only do this when landing after midnight, where I always spend the night in Bangkok.
  17. try the sametville resort...google will give you the website
  18. A clean body, a nice smile, freshly washed clothes and gentlemanly etiquette are what you need...and some baht, of course.
  19. I'd be careful buying an electronic device in LOS. Why? The warranty is valid only in the country of purchase. So, if you take it home and problems occur you'll be SOL now that you're out of LOS.
  20. Big D: do you think most of the neighbors you will encounter will be as considerate as you are?
  21. After your first night out in PTY, you'll really never feel the need for BKK when it comes to Nightlife. The only place BKK wins is western style discos. Everything else...PTY. Prepare to have your mind blown.
  22. Ambien works well for me; you'll need a prescription from a Dr. if you want to use ths drug.
  23. Best facilities for these things are in BKK. Take the 2 hour trip by bus if $$$ is short. You don't want to cut corners on surgery; the results could be difficult to live with, or even worse, fatal.
