  1. Problem is, the injury rate (real injuries, not crying to get a whistle from the ref) is far higher in American football than in soccer. Not even close, not remotely. If they didn't wear the armor, it would be far worse. Maybe your soccer players aren't trying hard enough to hurt each other?
  2. No, I agree with you. The yellow card for Müller was complete bullshit. I'm just glad he WILL be back for the final game :) Unfortunately this is what spoils soccer as a sport, there are too many irrational variables from stupid calls by the refs when there are no video replays. At least the right team won. I fully expect to see Netherlands vs Germany in the finals.
  3. Danke schön!
  4. What a drubbing for Argentina! How do you say "hand of God" in German?
  5. Looks like a cross-Rhine finals on the cards?
  6. The video's not that good, but for three hours' notice what do you expect?
  7. Like Wacmedia says, I know fook-all about football, I just like a team that shows balls when I see one. For what it's worth, which may be zero, I'm rooting for Holland for the rest of the tourney. Would be good to see the Netherlands, which has been to the finals many times but never won, to bring home the phallic-shaped prize for once. Hell, we Canucks had your back during the war, didn't we?
  8. Not saying you're wrong but... Sez the guy who predicted wrong!!
  9. Exciting upset. Holland should be able to take care of Uruguay or Ghana. Sure wouldn't want to be Felipe Melo now. Reneener must be celebrating.
  10. Felipe Melo better watch his back when he gets back to Brazil. First he let in an own goal, then now he's red carded and off the pitch. Edit: Netherlands have scored two goals in a match against Brazil three times, more than any other nation at the World Cup (France, Hungary, Italy and Sweden all 2x), says ESPN.
  11. HOLLAND AHEAD 2-1!!!
  12. Ni hao, wacmedia! The Dutch just brought it level, with the first own goal for Brazil in World Cup history, says ESPN. (No TV so I'm listening to Internet radio...)
  13. One of my upset predictions ALMOST came true... Japan vs Paraguay, very closely fought match. Paraguay was clearly the better team, but it ended up being decided in one of those bullshit penalty kick duels.
  14. The dyke wasn't that hot, but her two girlfriends were awesome!
  15. Ouch! Don't be so hard on me dude, I'm sort of a Dutch boy myself... I mean, I've had my finger in a few dykes
  16. On second thought, maybe not... next opponent looks like a tough one
  17. Congratulations reneener! I was actually cheering for them all the time, just kidding about that Slovakia thing. Come to think of it, the Netherlands seems to be always the bridesmaid, never the bride at the World Cup... maybe this is your year?
  18. 1-0 Netherlands at about the 10-minute mark....
  19. I guess I'd just like to see the underdogs do well. I'd love to see Slovakia beat Holland today, for instance, even if they don't get much further. If Paraguay beats Japan I'd like to see them go on to defeat Portugal or Spain, whichever they go up against. An African champion would be great, which I guess basically means Ghana. Okay, that's my dream result. Ghana wins the 2010 World Cup!!!!!
  20. I'm 3 for 4 now. As expected, Argentina beat Mexico, and inevitably ANOTHER controversial goal!
  21. (Another sleepless night trawling Pattaya Talk...) Props to Gabor from me too, one of the most informative replies ever. I could go for some of those noodles right now! There's also Simon's Fish and Chips, quite good haddock and cod from Norway, across from Hanuman Roundabout and down the road apiece toward the beach (don't forget to tell the waitress to bring the tartar sauce or they won't bring it), and apparently there's a Shenanigan's there too, though I've never been, in case the desire for overpriced pub grub overtakes you. Also inside VT2A there's Schubeli or something like that, they have a few pretty good German items.
  22. Well, that was never on the cards in the first place... ...since somebody decided a long time ago not to field a United Kingdom team...
  23. The random element in FIFA soccer is far too big a part of the action. That's why I've said, only half in jest, that soccer is more of a gambling vehicle than a sport, despite the brilliant athleticism on display every day in soccer. I can't think of any other professional sport where improperly allowed or disallowed goals, diving and bad calls play such an integral part in the results on such a routine basis. Bottom line: Video replays. No excuses. Do it now.
  24. Actually soccer is real popular as a school sport, it just hasn't caught on as a spectator sport. As for when Canada will have a presence in the World Cup, well, I don't expect to see it in my lifetime.
