My Ebook is available and for sale
LeoTex replied to LBJ's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Same same me, I wanted to save a little for a drink at the FLB over Christmas, so got it on my Barns and Noble Nook for the outrageous price of $2.99 US. LeoTex -
I purchase a new IDP each year. Here you can get them my mail from AAA (American Automobile Association) which is an auto insurance company. Two passport type passport photos, copy of my US drivers license front and back, application printed from their website and of course $20. My US drivers license is for both auto and motorcycle, so the IDP is also good for both. Just like the OP stated, I don't think you really need one by law, but the few times I have been stopped (road blocks) they have ask for it. Once on a motorbike and 3 times in a car. After they looked at all the papers, I was fr

I stayed at both the L K Metropole and L K Residence a few weeks ago and they both were very guest friendly. I'm not gready and only had one at a time join me, so don't know about if there is a charge if you bring back more than one girl at the same time. LeoTex -
Areca Lodge, construction noise next door.
LeoTex replied to The_Fat_Controller's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Same for me, I have the Areca booked for Songkran in April. Thanks, LeoTex -
The Thai New Year, Songkran, is always the same 'dates' each year, April 13th, 14th and 15th, so the beginning and ending will be based on the dates and not the day of the week. Like what was mentioned, in Bangkok it is over on the 16th. Places like Pattaya it goes on for what seems like forever. In Pattaya it starts out on the 13th, but the last few years the water thing starts lightly a day or so earlier. After the 15th it tappers off a little, but not much. It come back very strong on the 19th with a lot of places closing on that day because of all the water stuff going on and trying to

Pattaya: what is the best street to stay?
LeoTex replied to TheHunter's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
There is only one hotel of that group on Soi 13 which is the Sandy Spring. The Seame Spring and Seame 2 are located on Soi 10 down at the end by Beach Road. These two are newer hotels. LeoTe -
Pattaya: what is the best street to stay?
LeoTex replied to TheHunter's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
IMHO, I think that Soi 13 is the best location. Several Hotels ot pick from with my choice being the Sandy Spring. It is located about the halfway point on the Soi. A short walk down to Beach Road where you can catch a bahtbus to Walking Street. Also a short walk up to 2nd Road where you can catch a bahtbus going the other way to Big C or better yet, going to Soi 6. Just a few minutes walk to the Central Shopping Mall.It is also just a short walk to the LK Metro area. Soi 10 area also between 2nd Road and Beach Road is good location with several new hotels located there. LeoTex -
I agree, My flights leaving BKK are 6:00 AM and I plan to be at the airport at 4:00 AM. I have Mr T pick me up at my hotel in Pattaya at 2:00 AM to allow a little extra time incase of traffic (not that early) or any type of car trouble. 99% of the time, I'm way to early, but I just go in the lounge and check email or read until time to head to the gate. Areca Lodge, construction noise next door.
LeoTex replied to The_Fat_Controller's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I'm 5 days behind you. staying Areca the 26th through October 10th so would also like to have an update. I stayed there a few days in July, and I was in the old building overlooking the front pool and the noise at the time couldn't be heard in the room. LeoTex -
Sorry to say (IMHO), "there are not enought flowers in the world to brighten the journey home up. firth 1974, Great photos, thanks for taking the time to post them. LeoTex

Yes, I have seen you in action there. If I remembered correctly, all I hear you say to each and every vendor is, "thank you but, no thank you, maybe next time" LeoTex

Your best option for a 29 night visit...
LeoTex replied to spike's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I would give www.agoda.com a look. put in your dates and make sure you are getting the price in baht so you can compare to what you have paid in the past. You get photos, map of hotel locations and even some reviews. Some of the smaller place you are looking at (Soi 10 and Beach) will be on the list. I have used them many times in the past with great prices, but most of the hotels I know and don't worry paying up front for the stay. Most reservations have cancellations, but not all. Remember the prices quoted don't include the taxes. Good luck on your search. LeoTex -

I guess I"m the only confused one here, which is easy BTW. I also think that kaiser71 has a clue. You have stayed there in the past for 2 months, but you are asking question that you should have the answers to. Correct me if I'm wrong, but you should be giving us a review of the place. LeoTex

One could do that, couldn't they????????????? LeoTex

If they want the 'facinating stories' they will have to buy the book or catch me on one of my lecture tours. But they would save half on the cost of the taxi ride to 'infamous' Pattaya. LeoTex

Oscar, Thanks for the update and good to know as I will spend a few nights on Soi 10 before moving over to the Sandy Spring. Don't want to to through what I did last trip by not being able to arrive or leave the hotel by taxi. Not even a motorbike could get in there. You could only walk and that was on a very narrow (1/2 meter wide) path and some on 8 inch wide boards over the holes (pits) in the soi. LeoTex

You can get the VIP card at the check in desk at the hotel for about 300 baht. I have had one for several years. The old discount use to be 100 baht a night. I stayed there for 7 to 10 nights each of my 4 trips per year, so the savings would add up. Now since they raised the prices, you get the rooms at the rate before the increase. I booked the room for my next stay while there except for Christmas/New Years, I book that stay two stays previous because they are just about booked up for the holidays when I'm there in September. The ony time I need a credit card to hold my reservtion is for

I'm sure they will start lining up now to ride to Pattaya with me. But I do have Mr. T reserved and if anyone would like to share a ride, let me know. Arrive 11:55 PM on the 10th on Delta from Tokyo. Thanks, LeoTex

That is good news as I spend my first couple of days on Soi 10. When I was there in December, had to move after the first day because you couldn't walk to Second Road or Beach Road with out climbing over all the construction mess. The night (1:30 AM) I arrived the taxi couldn't get down to the hotel and had to go get the bell boy to help pack the luggage in. LeoTex
