  1. I would prefer this to be worked out in GBP/Thai Baht but I can always use XE.com if us Limeys are not clever enough. Now I would probably like to move out to LOS, but the same as many other BMs, maybe I do not have enough dough, and I do not really want to finish up splattered over Soi whatever before I get too old:D I am now 60 so I guess at the very best have 25 years left on this planet, but probably less, although father passed away last year age 90, but he lived a cleaner life than I do So my cash would be as near as possible to 100K, if I got 5% interest that would mean
  2. You probably will not get a lot cheaper because the Taxes have gone up, extra £20 quid from Gordon plus the 500 Thai departure tax is now in the ticket price. My ticket has £139 tax, plus £375 fare
  3. For UK guys, just noticed on the www.evaair.com site. LHR-BKK 21/1-09/12 except 11/7-20/8 Econ 470+ Elite 710+ 11/7-20/8 E 630+ El 990+ Premium Laurel is 1310+ from 21/1 through 09/12, very good value in the summer peak period. Must book before 28th February.
  4. Personally I do not think aircraft are as big a culprit to Global warming as all these experts make out. But there must come a time when you are not waiting in a queue on the taxiway for 15 minutes before you actually start the take off roll. Also whether LHR,BKK or elsewhere you never seem to get a straight run in but have to go in the stack for 20 minutes. With all this new technology if you actually pushed back, taxied and took off straight away and also when you arrived say the UK you just went into the approach. I know bad weather could mess things up but I believe the taxying and
  5. http://www.ourstravel.com 0207 3888955 If you are not too fussed which airline you use they have some good offers with China air etc
  6. Ben, yes thats ticked. I have just ticked "lock icons on desktop," we'll see what that does. I am not too PC literate, but it's all good fun
  7. I have tried to put it in the header. Sometimes on start up my icons do not appear on the desktop, any tips? It usually means I have to switch the power off then back on again. TIA
  8. Tom Be careful I am Jao Choo mak mak Should be BKK Feb 2, 3 and 4 HH 5-11 Koh tao 11-16 Lamai 16-22 Patong 22-28 I know you should not make plans, but if I change them for a TG I might fall in love One thing I do have in the back of my mind is to Depart the UK end of October when they alter the clocks and return the end of March when the clocks go forward, I am sure I suffer from SAD Seasonal affected Disorder I have never been to Koh Chang but it sounds pretty laid back there. One thing that concerns me is moving out of Holiday mode into Resident mode, I must get out of the
  9. Tom, I just noticed your Thai flag, maybe you should change your name to Thai Tom OK, so I am doing a bit of work and my mobile goes, "Ours Travel" "Your ticket is only valid 28 days, you have to change by 1 day". Well no availability unless book out the 1st, and back 1st March. £20 extra tax from 1st Feb I was between a rock and a hard place, I had no choice, the fare is fantastic at £375 but wait for it £139 TAX In November my tax was £108 so £31 more in 2 months, £20 for UK and £10 for Thai, it is getting a joke, non-economy must have a tax now of about £180. I u
  10. I have used Westeast once before with no problems but I usually use Ours because I can pop into their office and chat to a solid 9 CSA She is from Taiwan but happily married OK, I have just booked with Ours, a bit of a game because I wanted to upgrade using FF miles but Premium Laurel is very busy when I want to go, so I am down the back. Out 31/1 back 1/3 Last night I spent a couple of hours trawling the travel sites looking for Eva flights for my dates, Eva 651,Travelselect 600, Travelmood 680, Lees 663, Expedia 656, Opodo 603, STA 622, Travelocity 661, WestEast 590 all includ
  11. Have stayed in HH but not at HHH Hilton is right on the beach and in the centre of town. Has a disco called Hua Hin Brewing company or similar, very popular disco for FLs.
  12. neme Thanks for the heads up about noise at Inn House, it annoys me when a hotel is otherwise OK but you can hear all the various noises. My standard room at SS was great, 2nd floor, a little bit of construction noise from over the road but I think the project is almost finished. Soi 13 is great because it is a short walk to the beach and second road, also good massage and good falang food at Sportsmans. If you pay bar for lady at Wonderful 2 bar, do not do it until your last couple of days, otherwise it will cause problems entering the soi from 2nd road
  13. The baht has finally dropped and I have concluded that Soi 13 is my number 1 choice for sleeping. Sandy Spring is good but as Alf said sometimes it is booked out. I have stayed at AA Pattaya Residence which was passably Ok but the rooms were dark, and now probably darker on the Lek side. Whitehouse seems not such a good purchase, but Inn House seems reasonable ratewise, they also have a small pool on the roof. Whilst not giving any secrets away (unless you PM me FWIW I first stayed SS in a suite, a waste of dough, OK you could see the sea and parsails but my 2nd floor standard room wa
  14. I have stayed Baybreeze a few times with no problems, I have a big room which has a room safe, although i do not use it. The oldish security guy who works nights is usually on the ball, he even does fire-watch patrols. It's not a bad thing to leave 20 baht on the pillow in a morning, I look upon it as a kind of insurance.
  15. Going to be called Air Asia X or Express, flying KL to London Stansted amongst other destinations in China and India. Commences July 2007. 2 classes, zoo and super zoo, no business. pay for entertainment and food and drinks. By the time Taxes are added on ???? If you'll excuse the pun, time will tell if it takes off
  16. Air Asia to make "Huge Announcement" 1000 KL time Friday
  17. Just some odd bits and bobs. Air asia sponsor Man Utd in some way, also have large adverts at some of the matches. Virgin America have been knocked back in the USA Oasis beat Branson for LoCo to HKG, payback time? Virgin fly to Sydney via HKG maybe could do same same via BKK or KL or Singers. Where Stelios come in I don't know, unless he's got the dough I am sure we all agree that some more competition for Thai, Eva, BA and Qantas etc would be a good thing. Not sure if LTN has a long enough runway, probably use LGW.
  18. barrington On Tuesday give Ours Travel a ring, they are Eva main agents, I have always found them helpful, although in the past westeast have been £25 cheaper. http://www.ourstravel.com Happy New year all
  19. Eva now have a sale on for UK pax with Ours Travel. LHR-BKK 375+tax, £350 +tax for April, May and June. Must book before 17th January. I guess other agents will be Same Same but different. Keep em Peeled
  20. neil To the best of my knowledge just one class, and I have just flown Bangkok-Guilin return, there is the sectional overhead frame but no curtain. On the A320 row 11 is exit row and has lots of legroom.
  21. Same Same as bob, LHR should have some freebie bags. Have a good trip.
  22. This Eva Christmas day and Boxing Day promotion for UK members, I entered my preferred dates and it came up £350+tax, but no offers on PL or Elite. This next trip I fancy using my FF miles and paying Elite but fly PL, so I do not think I can take the eva offer up. I will be in touch with OURS tomorrow to see what progress they are making. By the way i have been so pissed off since my return I may go to LOS for all of next winter.
  23. Welcome back Tom, you have been missed UK guys, in the event of an emergency, ring my post number
  24. I went into Ours Travel yesterday and they did not know about any forthcoming Eva special offers. Probably a bit too early. She quoted me 655+tax for Elite which is not too bad anyway, maybe the best price has been 580+ tax. No I have not lost my marbles, I will only book Elite if I can have a confirmed upgrade to PL. I currently have 64K in the bin (+ 5k from a BM ) so I may well use the FF miles before Eva change their mileage rules again. On discounted economy tickets you only get 80% FF so I would need another 7 round trips to get a free PL return.
  25. Afraid not, I am UK based, justfares seem to specialise in US deals. I know that the USA discount fares system works differently to the UK. If you are after a good deal from the US, check out the USA guys posts on the airline section, you can even send them a private message to ask for info. Some things are the same the world over though, high fares, Christmas, Chinese New Year, Peak summer etc
