Big fire back of Walking street
Gus replied to aussiechic's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Thanks for all the images, all that rain should have helped put out the fire, you could do with some of that in NSW now. -
Marina Beach resort is good value for money in Lamai, it is on the beach, nice bungalows and no problems with bringing a lady or two back. I last stayed on Samui about 4 years ago so I cannot give a current update.

40 good reasons why I won't be following England in the World Cup ...
Gus replied to CheshireTom's topic in Sports Talk
IMHO The nice Tits make up for the stretch marks. :) -
That's a good deal Tom, go get it. I assume that you would be able to get a connecting flight the same evening to Scotland. I have just had a look at the Eva air web site and for the 12th November to 12th December the fares were 2130 Euros (£1806) AMS-BKK return or the 78095 THB (£1567) return for BKK-AMS, the fare from LHR-BKK return these days is usually just over £2000, probably because of UK taxes and charges. Before the refurb from Premium Laurel the LHR-BKK return fare was around £1700, after the refurb to Royal, £2000.

Flying to Chiang Mai, from UK where do I clear immigration?¬
Gus replied to marleyboy's topic in Airline Discussion
A few years ago I went from LHR to Chiang Rai, probably Eva Air and Thai, at Chiang Rai the international passengers baggage came on a seperate belt to domestic and already checked baggage. -
NEW COMPANY HUA HIN SEA DISCOVERY
Gus replied to Huahinseadiscovery's topic in Transport in Thailand
Very reluctantly I don't think that a sea transfer from Pattaya to Hua Hin can ever work, the high fares for a start, and it is debateable whether it is possible to save much time from the road journey. The Gulf of Thailand can get very choppy, just ask pax who have been to Koh Tao from Chumporn. There will be cancellations for sure due to the weather, but ultimately there are just not enough people who want to make this journey. As they say in Dragons Den, " I'm Out !" :) -
Any members flying Eva LHR-BKK in the next week or so?
Gus replied to Gus's topic in Airline Discussion
I booked my flight yesterday with West East Travel, £549.85 with Eva, outbound on 12th November. Fares are probably going to be higher from mid November because it is The Ashes, Australia v England and many UK guys will be travelling via BKK. -
Any members flying Eva LHR-BKK in the next week or so?
Gus replied to Gus's topic in Airline Discussion
Cheers Nightrider, I have now edited my post to make my London Lounge request the (SAS) lounge which Eva previously used when Air Canada were their handling agents at LHR, I assume that Air Canada have again taken over handling Eva at LHR from American Airlines? AA used to open check in 4 hours before the flight which I thought was great, as I like an early check in to beat the security queues of passengers going later to the sub-continent. -
When I fly Eva from LHR to BKK I usually book a lounge pass at LHR. Servisair can be booked for under £20, the lounge is not particularly good, but you can help yourself to drinks.:) The Number 1 traveller lounge is much better but you have to ask for drinks from the barman, only single spirits served as well, OK if you are after better food though. When Eva used the AA Admirals lounge you could buy a lounge pass from the Eva ticket desk and it was £40, far too much. Now Eva are back using the (SAS) London lounge I could do with a member after checking in going to the ticket desk a

"The Air France staff actually RAN AWAY [i'm not exaggerating they actually ran like it was a kid's joke]" Sounds par for the course. :)

My first trip to Thailand was via Hong Kong, I used up my Virgin Atlantic miles for a Business trip out and Premium economy back, with a Thai Airways economy flight paid for seperately, back in 2003. I cannot see me booking this offer because I need to see my Hospital consultant on the 29th just to give me the Green light to fly long haul following my DVT last November. If you'll excuse the pun, it's been a long haul getting back to consider flying again, but I am 99% certain that it will be all systems go. I have sent off for my new passport, that's £72.50 plus postage etc I had a t

I was on Skyscanner uk or simialr looking for direct flights to BKK and on the indirect, Cathay came up at £430. You will have to check your departure airport and time of departure but that is an incredible price. The journey times were around a minimum of 16 hours inc the HKG stop, I wouldn't mind stopping there for 2 or 3 days but I doubt it would be in the fare rules for £430.

Aren't the Airbus aircraft wings made in the the UK, somewhere near to Chester?
-
I have just checked prices on the Eva Air web site and they seem to be pretty good for later in the year, LHR-BKK on November 12th and BKK-LHR on December 13th £577. I have not checked other dates or cities, but seems good to me.
-
Westeast are £615 if you come back on the 4th, or give Ours Travel a call they quoted me a £100 cheaper than all the usuals.

Thanks for the report short, I'm not going to disagree with anything you have posted about Eva, although personally i do not know the Thai A340 seats. What I do know is that Eva is currently having a purge on baggage weight either cabin or hold, should go away before too long. Most BR flights to BKK are pretty long, to entertain yourselves just try and think how many of those plastic glasses they use per flight. :)
-
Eva seems to becoming more expensive, including on the LHR route, however there are special prices nocing about with the best ones if you stay for less than one month. Thai had a promotion up to 31st december with some good fares.

Well done again Tom, I never spotted that.

Found it Tom, Cheers. One thing that seems a bit strange is that A and B rows in the rear section are noted as having 2" less legroom than the normal 34" yet J and K have exactly the same number of rows but do not have this warning. I guess they probably also have 2" less legroom. I like to sit near to the back of the aircraft because if there are any empty seats on the flight they will probably be in the rear section. Having said that there are a large number of Business class seats on the A346, do Thai manage to fill them? Looks ideal for a Premium economy section to me. :)

Thanks for that Tom, I did have a look at seatguru but I was unable to see info on IFE box positions. It depends what happens at hospital later today whether I go or not,at the beginning of December I had to go to hospital in Hua Hin where they dicoverd DVT as well as Cellulitis, I am now on warfarin but I am not sure if I'll be grounded for a while. Happy New Year All.
-
With fares as they are, it looks like I may be flying Thai on the A340-600 from LHR in late January instead of my usual Eva 777. With Eva row G has no IFE box in front, what aisle rows on the Thai airbus have no IFE boxes in front? TIA

I just stayed at Bay Breeze for 7 nights, 7700 for a big room. The rooms have been re-vamped and are better, the safe in my room was not on the floor as maybe some others are. There are some snacks and drinks in the rooms and they are reasonably priced. From my point of view the only negative is the noise from the live music bars on second road, but as this stops at 2am it is not a major problem.

I was reading in one of the Pattaya newspapers that permission had been given to build a new passenger terminal at Utapao, it was suggested that some low cost airlines may move from Don Mueang. If you'll excuse the pun, within the next 10 years Utapao will really take off. I wouldn't expect Eva and Thai to start flying internationally from there but there will certainly be better options than Bangkok airways to Samui and Phuket.

I used the Limo from Swampy yesterday, on time, excellent driver, spotlessly clean Camry, about 95 mins Suvarnabhumi to Bay Breeze. 1200 inc.
