In fact, all properties are available for 6 months but perhaps not on the terms the renter wants. I doubt BigD will get someone to rent for 6 months and then have him drop in now and again for a short trip !!!! 2 months deposit is the norm with 1 month going as commission to the agent as an introductory fee for a 12 month rental. I guess the compromise is a smaller place for 12 months or a larger one for 6 months and then some storage or a cheap room. Sure you can rent a nice place for 12 months but you're chucking away a fair chunk of change if you're only there 6 or 7 months. Past Suk, a cheap 2 bed 1 bath townhouse for 8k or a 3 bed 2 bath for around 15-20k is feasible with price depending upon what facilities and land it has as well as location.

Around Soi Khaotalo you can get small town houses for about 8/9k and a detached 2/3 bed 2 bath place with large living room, gardens on all sides with wide streets and covered off road parking at about 15k per month. I know, I live in one !

I've said in my thread that I had it in View Talay for over 2 years.

Had TOT 512/256 in View talay 2 for over 2 years and no problems. In the beginning the speed wasn't up to the sales pitch but after about 3-6 months, it was fine. The last 12 months were really great and you could leave it on for days and it would not fall over. In that respect, I could not fault TOT at all. What is this I hear about JI-net 2048/???? for about Bt1000 per month ?

I know you can't get it through Sophon but that is not surprising as most of the time they cannot get their telly down the pipe either !

So where is it ?

I've recently moved and need to get ADSL again after TOT finally confirmed they cannot port my line over from the condo to the new house. So, I'm keen to get the best deal currently available. I was on TOT ADSL 512/256 for Bt700 per month but was going to go to the 1024/256 for Bt1000 per month but whilst that is fine for regualr stuff, downloading things gets a big laborious. Of course I am not expecting 10mb but what other options are there which I can get on the current TOT line ? Actual speed versus cost is important as I now need to download more stuff. Is it better with a different telephone provider to TOT ? Thanks

NPK the best by miles. Used them for years. They will also bok you an e-ticket at the correct price, most charge you an extra Bt2000 and some airlines do as well.

I really want to get German football "live". My ideal would be say a 10-15 minute buffer so starting 10-15 minutes late, maybe 30 minutes late. As I show the 1st half, I get near the end of my buffered bit but I get a respite of 15-20 minutes at half time to "get ahead" again. That would be ideal for me but I am not sure if it is possible within such a short timeframe.

I was going through PP's post a while back and wondered if there is a way now to get tv through the internet which i could watch on a large tv not a pc screen. I could chuck my knowledge in but that is very limited. Any assistance, especially with sport and German TV would be most appreciated. Thanks

Having used the NCA buses and the VIP buses from Korat to the village, I can honestly say I would not use a regular bus, even aircon, for that journey. NCA is Bt415 one way. I don't care if the other buses are free they are still too expensive in comparison.

Pay tax ? don't be daft. I don't even think that the agents here retain the tax liability.

The VIP buses from NCA are like mini business class seats which recline to about 150 degrees. The TV is crap, all Thai rubbish but it is off after an hour or so. I used to go to Korat before I got the truck. Not too bad and bloody cheap.

I spent months down in the South Andaman quite a few years ago and I could have lived there on next to nothing if I had to. I ate whatever the fishermen caught, all Thai dishes, prepared for a pittance. I drank with the owners family, his place being family land in a cove on an island. With an investment of about USD2000 I could live there rent and bill free forever and all I'd need was money for food, beer and clothes. Could I do it ? yes, I probably could if I was single. Maybe go out with the fishing guys, the occasional TV when there was electric etc. Boring ? perhaps but you live in touch with nature. After a while you don't miss aircon, or TV. You want a cold shower and hot water feels strange (even heated by the sun). I could not be destitute in a westernised city like Bangkok, Pattaya or even places like Buriram, Udon etc.
