I understand that the real fine is Bt400 but I could be wrong. They used to only bother at month ends but now they hassle people all month. They used to accept cash with no ticket but I now understand that the ticket never gets to the police station unless you take it yourself. They want the Bt400 instead of a Bt100-200 bribe.

I use Pattaya International for all routine stuff. I know their gyno (Dr. Ben) is very good. However, they do not have a large team for the whole pregnancy thing. Bangkok Pattaya is the most expensive but do have a large staff. You also have Banglamung. My mate had his kid there and was pleased with it.

Drive up and down 3rd Road, Theppasit Rd and even Thappraya Rd and there are loads of shops. Romeo on Thappraya has a sale on at present. Don't know their regular prices.

An expanding Boyztown is eroding whatever Pattayaland had left in terms of attractions. Overpriced, rip offs are endemic and deliberate. Only reason to visit there is for the Shamrock, Sugar Shack and the restaurant whose name escapes me. Even the once good New Orleans is now overpriced with reduced quality.

From the buying side, I wouldn't touch Fair Properties with a barge pole but renting is another matter. The agent will have a contract with the owner and if they have not performed their contractual obligations in the above case then they are liable for the costs of repairs etc.

Yensabai condos should fit the bill at around Bt8k per month. Have a word with hammer as I think his is fairly well priced. Must be somewhere around Soi Buakhow for around Bt6-8k. I know the Diana Group are advertising some next to the driving range starting at Bt7k per month. Cheap end hotels will also foot the bill.

What crap. You shop me the Marriott all in for GBP 25 or so per day and I'll move in. If people are thinking about getting a Marriott for that price then yes, the ones in Bangkok were available for that price using Priceline in Hong Kong after the Asian financial crisis but you know what, people were still filling the fucking Nana at GBP 15 per day. Crazy or what ?

When I worked, I would always stay at the top end hotels. My homes were the Park Hyatts, Marriotts, Sheratons etc. of this world and I truly enjoyed their hotels. One thing that people do not understand is that to get the benefit of the significant extra cost, you have to use the facilities in the hotel and if paying Bt150++ for a small beer at the Marriott is a problem then don't stay there as the room itself does probably not justify the extra cost. Use the pool, eat in the restaurants, perhaps the gym or spa and you start to understand why it is the whole experience which counts. Sure I would bring in some water, especially in the Park Hyatt in Tokyo as it was mega expensive for a small Evian water but I would also enjoy the hotels luxury. When I saw last year a deal for the Pattaya Marriott at around Bt3500 or so per day which included breakfast (Bt650++ each otherwise) I could not help but think how an extra Bt20,000 or so on holiday accommodation costs would be well spent for 10 days or a week there as opposed to a lesser place. As the OP said, GBP50 or so per day is next to fuck all in the big scheme of things, only because Pattaya is so cheap otherwise does it seem expensive.

That sucks and may even force people to leave or not book. Why do mid and top end places still do this ? Surely they would be better off just hiking the rate marginally after a period of time and absorbing the cost that way. Penny pinching always leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

I would not bank on this get around being available forever. Already I hear stories of consulates refusing to issue a 2nd tourist visa back to back and this is only going to get worse. They should make some sort of financial stipulation and then just let you go to immigration and prove it.

Most guys don't live here though do they and you don't need to go to the dentist every week or even month.
