Viewtalay do have a good rep for quality and ongoing maintenance and I like the look of your Dads house. But I do not have a spare 30M and whether this is a good price time will tell. Drilldr. A lot of guys do not insure their property but I do not want to take the risk. I am a Insurance Broker and have seen to often what a fire or major storm can do. I use QBE Thailand to insure a house and Condo. They have their HO in Bangkok and a Branch Office in Pattaya. They are not the cheapest but do offer a good cover and their policies for farangs have English clauses attached so that you can see what your insured for. If you contact the HO they will have somebody who can respond in English. QBE are an Australian Insurer. With a Condo they come as a shell with no fittings so i

Hi Short. In my experience I do not think you will find what you want in Pattaya, Jomtien, Phuket or Bangkok. Welcome Ripple. Because I always go in peak season, Christmas & New Year I have to book early otherwise I cannot get a flight. At least 3 months before travelling. Never any specials on but I use a travel agent who heavily discounts her commission thus saving me a few bucks. You could check this out. Have a great trip and as for travelling alone you will always be able to meet somebody you like if you try. Me personally, I prefer to travel with somebody.

I posted just in case somebody does not know the local rules and arrives in LOS thinking they can buy a house and land. It happened to a guy I know in Australia. Every year I take my daughter. She is a lot younger, only 4 last July. But during the day we have fun doing not only a lot of the things mentioned but you can also take in a movie in the afternoon. Play a couple of rounds of Mini Golf which is on Beach Rd Nth of Hard Rock Cafe. Have a game of Ten Pin Bowling, there are a couple in Pattaya. Jet Ski's and Banana Boats on Jomtien Beach. Not knowing you or your wife and just being a bit suspicious I would check that piece of paper. Farangs cannot buy a house and if you bought it in your wifes name she would not need a tor3, but, thai women married to farangs must prove that the money used to buy a house does not come from the farang husband but is her own money and that he has not got any call on the funds in the future. If you cannot speak or read thai? And do you have total trust in your wife? Well, I would be getting a trusted translater to have a look at the documents, house title etc.

You mention that you want a nice room or condo in your price range. For nice I think you will need to increase your budget by at least 100%. Some other members might know of some deals but I do not think there is much in this price range.

I have seen 300 metres advertised but I do not walk as fast as Gabor. It takes me about 10 minutes. Continuing on about VT2 I am also a fan of the place. I have owned a 41sq metre studio on the 3 rd floor of bldg B for the last 2 years. Never had a problem with maintenance or general upkeep of the place. I bought the unit in Aug 2003 finished, furniture etc for 1.1M and have just sold it for 1.4M. I sold it because I am setting things up for eventual retirement in the future so I have bought 2, 48sq metre units in VT5. This will give me a 96sq metre apartment that I can make into a nice 2 bedroom unit. Its on the beach with good ocean views and I can see myself spending many happy months the

Hi Bronto, You will get differing opinions on VT2. I like it and own a Condo there but only get to stay 5 weeks a year over Christmas but my mate lives their permanently with his wife & daughter and loves the place. I do not want to stay right in the middle of the action. I prefer Jomtien as its a bit quieter than Pattaya and when I feel like a night out its only 15 minutes in a baht bus to Sth Pattaya. The construction noise is a lot less than it was in the past as most of the Condo's have been sold and renovated now. Good luck with your purchase.

Have you tried Simple Simons in Jomtien. From memory its in Soi 4 or 5. Anyway not far south of the 7 Eleven at the Nth end of Jomtien Beach.

I would hazard a guess that they are much the same. I had some business shirts made when last in Pattaya and they are excellent quality made from Italian fabric. If I could find the receipt I would tell you the tailers name & address.

Good effort Galt. Better than I could do. It will be interesting to see how it develops after you start living there full time. As a suggestion why don't you expand the examples of places to live to Jomtien. A lot of board members like to stay there, especially if they do not hit the bars every night, and catch the baht bus into Pattaya for a night out. Have fun in your retirement.

Eric, Not trying to flame you here but for 37,000 baht for 2M baht cover is not that much cover. 37,000 is Aus $1233.00 which I would expect to spend, (maybe a bit more) to get Aus $1M (30M baht) cover under a annual travel policy. But with the travel policy you do have to pay it first and if its a going to be a big amount they usually have to have it approved first. This is no hassle as the good companies operate a 24 hour emergency assist service. A extended stay in a private hospital in Bangkok could soon use up your 2M baht cover.
