Mescalito replied to doghaus's topic in RideHer Cup Planning and Discussion
Just sent an e-mail with mine as well for 2 of us on the 5-day trip. Really looking forward to it. -
Golf can be hazardous for your health

St. Louise's Regional Medical Center in Gilroy, California. I suppose I should have mentioned in the OP that I'm still home in California, not in LOS until November. -

It sounds like you've seen me putt before! (One of the Indian programmers where I'm consulting wondered if I'd been playing cricket.) I've been out of the splint and off the crutches for about 10 days now. I have a compression bandage on the ankle, which is helping a lot, but I do still get some pretty good twinges if I happen to turn the ankle the wrong way (I know, I know: stop turning it that way, then!). Most of the swelling is gone as is almost all of the bruising, but I sure as hell didn't expect to still be dealing with this 3 weeks later! Still, I'm 4 + weeks from wheels up so I expect to be back in fighting trim well in time for the Rideher Cup. I am forcing myself not to even try playing any golf at all until the weekend before I depart, although I did do a little putting yesterday. Who knows? This may be a God-send: the biggest problem I have with my swing is coming up off my back foot too early, so the prospect of excruciating pain may make me stay down on the shot longer! -
Well, we somehow managed to bring the Cup back to this side of the pond. It was some of the best golf I've ever seen, as well as some of the most surprising. Our young guns performed really well, and some of the old guys like Furyk and Perry showed that still have it. Phil seemed to miss every putt he looked at today, though. Big kudos to Jimenez, too. Conceding that last hole to Furyk, and in doing so gving us the Cup back, was an very, very classy gesture on his part. The Europeans played great, and with all the passion and commitment they're none for in this event. Poulter will have silenced those who criticized Faldo for naming him as a Captain's pick. He hit shots that were almost inhuman, and dropped putts under pressure that we mere mortals can't imagine. I can't wait for 2010!

Terry Lee's Birthday party 27th September

DAMN! Would love to be there for this but I'm still 6 weeks from wheels-up.! -
I don't know of this was the case back then, Wm., but now CI's web site allows you to select your seat on-line within 90 days of your departure. That gets around any overbooking problems. And while I can only speak for SFO-BKK-SFO trips, the impact of rising fuel costs on ticket prices seems to be having an effect. On my trip in May this year biz class where I was was barely half full and coach about 2/3.

The CI web site is what I use to book my flights from SFO. The English language part of the site definitely wasn't designed by a native-English speaker, it's not always very intuitive, and some back-end redesign is needed, but it is reliable and secure and I have no problems with it. I also pay with my debit card, and feel perfectly safe doing so.

This won't help me much -- I don't usually get their last names! Or their real ones for that matter.

I sense a bolt of lightening arriving at any moment. Pretty funny, though.

Girls, girls, too many girls.
Mescalito replied to PattayaPete's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
No matter what you do or how well you run an establishment, there's always going to be one person who bitches about something. And frankly, receiving a beer that's not cold enough does not make my personal list of "things-to-flame-a-bar-about". There's one in every crowd though, Pete, so don't lose any sleep over it; if the beer was cold enough I'm sure he'd have come up with something else to bitch about. GREAT turn-out of girls, too! I think I'll have to devote considerably more time there this trip. And to Des/Fonz . . . . I bow to you, sir! If I can have half your energy and enthusiasm and anything close to your attitude towards life at 83 I will consider myself a very lucky man. -

Hmmmmmm. I'm noticing a disturbing trend: great parties happen when I'm not there! -

Of course I feel better! They gave me a shitload of Vicodin! -
Zed, Looks like we'll miss each other by a day; I get in on November 1st. A pity -- I'd have loved to buy you a beer and hear what you thought of the courses in the area. Oh, well -- have great time!

My participation in the Rideher Cup, Catz Open and subsequent rounds was briefly thrown into doubt today. . . . . . While sitting in my wheelchair in the ER: Later on that evening, said ankle in a cast: The X-rays did not show a break, but the radiologist wasn't in and won't be until tomorrow so they'll get a second look then. It may just be a bad sprain, although my ankle is roughly the size of a baseball at the moment. So here's the story: I was on the 12th green and found a wedge left by the group ahead. I putted out first and told my partners I'd drive up ahead in my cart to return the club while they finished. So of course as I was running over to my cart I tripped, stepped wrong, and my right ankle did a nearly 90-degree turn under me, sending me ass-over-elbows to the ground. After spending 4-1/2 hours in the ER at a local hospital I was discharged with a cast and 4 500mg tabs of Vicodin and a prescription for more. I have been assured, though, that even if it is broken (which is looking less likely) I'll be fully recovered and ready to play come November.

There really aren't words to properly express just how NOT a big deal that I find that. So someone deleted your thread. Notwithstanding that your explanation for why it was done is pure speculation, so what? So they deleted a thread. Big Effing Deal. There are things going on in this world worth getting on a soapbox about. This ain't one of them.

A young high school lad entered the confessional and said, "Forgive me father for I have sinned". The priest replied, "Confess your sins and be forgiven". "Father, I have had immoral relations with a girl and school, and of course we're not of age nor are we married", said the young man. "Who was this young lady, my boy, that participated with you in this sin?" asked the priest. "I cannot say, Father. It would bring shame to her." The priest said, "Was it Patty O'Brien by any chance?" "No, Father, but again I cannot say", answered the boy. "Was it Sheila Maclean?" said the priest, "or perhaps Annie Adams?" "No, Father, and I cannot say who", was the answer. "Well then, could it have been Mary O'Neil, or maybe Connie Harrington?" "No" said the boy. "Father, please, I cannot and will not say who. What should be my penance?" "Well", said the priest," since you will not tell me who it was you shall have to serve a penance alone. Say the Rosary three times. Peace be with you". The boy left the church and met his best friend outside waiting his own turn. "What happened? What did you get?" asked the friend. "I got the Rosary and 5 new leads!!"

Ummmm, I think we're all still a little in the dark as to exactly what "censorship" you're talking about. Are you talking about threads being deleted, moved or edited by a site's mods? Certain kinds of behavior or comments getting people 86'd from bars, clubs or chat rooms? Shirts, hats, or other apparel with messages or images being deemed too offensive for public display? And regardless of which of the above applies, remember that the Golden Rule is in play at all times: Whoever has the gold makes the rules. IOW, their business -- their rules.

The Cherry Bar 3rd Anniversary Party
Mescalito replied to Hammer's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
Looks like another great party at the Cherry Bar, Adam, and congratulations and making it through 3 years in not just one of the toughest markets but the toughest businesses anywhere as well. It's a testament to your perseverance and being able to maintain the kind of quality that keeps customers coming. Well done! -
Hammer's 36th Birthday Party
Mescalito replied to Hammer's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
I wish I could be there, Adam, but sadly I don't arrive until November. I suspect that this is going to be an genuinely epic evening, too! -
I have to echo Emil's comments on Zab; it's one of my favorite places for live music, and the food ain't bad, either. Emil's right about the girl with the fiddle, too; she's terrific, as is the whole band. I also like Hot Tuna Bar on WS. They have a couple of cover bands that are pretty good. One of them does a mean version of Deep Purple's "Highway Star", and the guitarist is great.

Pattaya Beer Garden - lookin' or chillin'
Mescalito replied to PattayaPete's topic in Bars/Gogos/Business Owners' Forum
Pete, you're a freakin' genius! Great idea -- taking the old red badge/green badge system a step further. -
Approx. USD 300,000 for a 530 sq ft 1 bedroom apartment seems a bit steep to me, even in the heart of Bangkok. I can get a 2,500 sq ft house on a nice-sized lot in Utah for that. Of course, you can't find a bar for miles around, but that's another story.

The wisdom of the ages, so to speak, or perhaps the wisdom of the "aged".
