  1. I stayed there last Dec/Jan, nioce place, new, clean, nice staff, small swimming pool on 3rd floor I think, Only problem is trying to get Bht bus, It;'s not on one of the routes and most will pass you out heading towards lights at junction of 2nd /beach road
  2. The Full Moon parties are on an Island called Koh Phangan, that's just off Koh Samui. You'd need to get a plane to Samui from Pattaya (Utapao) best to book with www.bangkokair.com Check out this link for details on the Full Moon Parties, they are good and well worth a visit, but only if Samui is a part of your plans, but you will not leave Pattaya http://www.kohsamui.org/party.html P.S they are on Dec 16th & Jan 14th this year, dunno if this fits in with your dates. Oh you'll also start wondering why you were ever going out with your ex
  3. No flights leave Ireland on Xmas day, so that will hammer him, try Travelocity with Air France, they often do good deals from Dublin
  4. Make up your mind, are you in Ireland or England ????
  5. I went through 24.org got a reply this morning saying all full, but suggested Diamond Beach on Soi Diamond instead, heard previously that this place is crap, so won't be booking this place
  6. I'm on this flight on 24th Dec, so hope all goes well, I won't mind too much if my luggage misses the connection as long as I don't. Don't want to spend xmas day in Dubai Airport
  7. I stayed there last xmas, very new building, clean and nice rooms. The beds though are on wheels and have a tendency to go rolling around the room. Can also be a problem getting a baht bus, most pass you out as it's not a regular route and the ones that stop, tend to take you to the lights at beach road which cross second road. I going to Los this xmas and have just today put in a request for accomodation to stay there as everyplace is filling fast, I'd like to have stayed in J&P Court again, but that was full when I enquried at the hotel when staying there two weeks ago. Diamond city had vacancies throughout the xmas period last year, so I hope to get a room there again this year
  8. I tried to book this place and never got a reply, time to check a new hotel
  9. Hi I booked J & P Court yesterday, that's on Soi Lengki. Down around Soi Boukaow/Soi Diane. A friend stayed there last March and recommended it. I sent an email to jp_court@hotmail.com. Got a reply the next day. no problem, rooms are 650 per night in October and 700 in November.
  10. I got the airport Minibus the last time, there were 5 of us, problem with it was they waited over 30 minutes until the bus filled b4 moving off, I'd rather pay the little extra and jump into a taxi and go straight away. Nice place in Chaweng on the beach is Chaweng Villa resort, but make sure you look for the De-luxe rooms, Hotel prices are also more expensice in Samui than Pattaya http://www.koh-samui-hotels.net/
  11. I've brought 1, 2 ansd 3 ladies backj to the room with no problem, Security guard has even sorted me out with extra towels (blue ones at reception) for the extra ladies, I do tip him the odd few Baht and have a chat with him any time I bump into him, sound bloke really I've always found, unless maybe there is more than one Security Guard, I only remember one on nights, Don is his name ( at least it sounds like Don, I probably have it all wrong)
  12. Try the Bel aire Princess, Not BG friendly so ensure your GF also checks in with you http://www.bangkokhoteltravel.com/bel_aire...ess.htm#special
  13. The Baggage Handlers Strike that hit yesterday is continuing today which will leave thousands stranded. I Pity anyone travelling to BKK tonight with them. LONDON : Tens of thousands of air travellers faced another day of chaos after British Airways cancelled all its flights in and out of London's main Heathrow airport because of a wildcat strike. It called off 500 flights at Heathrow -- the world's busiest international airport -- until 6 pm (1700 GMT) after baggage handlers walked out in sympathy with sacked workers at the catering firm that prepares its in-flight meals. Australian carrier Qantas, Finnair and Sri Lankan Airways, which use the same baggage handlers, also felt the effects, as 121 British Airways departures and some 100 arrivals were cancelled Thursday, affecting 20,000 travellers. With no end to the dispute in sight -- and with 100 of its aircraft and 1,000 pilots and cabin crew stranded at airports all over the world -- British Airways said it would keep itself grounded on Friday. "It is a huge disappointment to us that we have become embroiled in someone else's dispute," said British Airway's chief executive Sir Rod Eddington, finding himself in the third labour dispute to hit Heathrow in as many summers. Mick Temple, managing director of BAA Heathrow Airport, told BBC radio there would be "significant disruption today and probably for several days to come" for British Airways passengers. As matters stand, Temple said, those travelling on most other airlines from Heathrow should not encounter difficulties, though he advised them to check for information before going out to the airport. "I would strongly advise everybody to just check because I could be saying something now which is clearly wrong in a very short period of time because of the situation we're talking about," he said. As passengers arrived Thursday to find themselves shut out of Heathrow's terminals, airport staff distributed fold-up chairs and bottles of water, and a race was on to find overnight accomodation for out-of-towners. "I don't anticipate getting much sleep tonight," said teacher Peter Weston, 49, trying to reach Germany. "My sons found a corner by the arrivals lounge, we'll sleep there I guess." The chaos stems from the sacking of 800 workers from Gate Gourmet International, an in-flight catering firm owned by US private equity group Texas Pacific that makes 80,000 meals a day for British Airways, its biggest client at Heathrow. Gate Gourmet, which has been trying to restructure in a bid to cut its financial losses, dismissed the workers on Wednesday after an unofficial stoppage over the casual employment of 130 workers. But the Transport and General Workers Union, one of the biggest unions in the country, accused management of acting in a "disgraceful" fashion and urged British Airways to put pressure on it. The dispute escalated sharply Thursday when baggage handlers, members of the same union, staged a spontaneous unofficial strike in support of their Gate Gourmet colleagues. Gate Gourmet workers were to hold a mass meeting at Heathrow later Friday to decide their next move. Henk Potts, an analyst at Barclays Stockbrokers, said the dispute could cost British Airways 10 million pounds (18.1 million dollars) a day, at a time when it is grappling with soaring fuel prices. British Airways is among the world's most profitable airlines after making 415 million pounds (752 million dollars) in profits last year, thanks in part to job reductions and abandoning of money-losing routes.
  14. Prices have jumped up with BA again, I booked my flight from Ireland to LHR to BKK for 826 euro 2 weeks ago, was checking the price today for a mate that hasn't booked in yet and it has jumped up to 1063 euro, he's in a quandary as to book at this price or wait and see if it will drop again
  15. Tipping the maids always gets you better treatment, give her a few bob and ask her to change sheets daily for you
  16. Hi Millwall If going to Samui for the first time I'd recommend staying in the Chaweng area, it isthe livliest part of the island. I normally stay in the Chaweng Villa resort, but make sure you don't get one of the wooden bungalows. I also don't know if they have 2 bedroom apartments (they are al villa type chalets) I normally go for the De-luxe, Accomodation on Samui costs more than Pattaya, here is a link I normally use for samui http://www.koh-samui-hotels.net/
  17. Yeah same here and I absolutely detest Dublin Airport as well and it's a 2.5 hr drive away, where my own airport is 15 min drive. The only way I would go this way is if the price was too good to refuse, maybe they will have December Deals when every other airline is charging an arm n a leg, good link ups tho, thanks for the Info Tom. I could also fly Shannon to Dublin maybe, but as I say, it all depends on the price. i like Gulf Air as well, was on them once and found them ok
  18. It's normally the Qantas I fly with, Both BA and Qantas leave at similar times from LHR 22.00 and 22.15 roughly, so It doesn't matter which one. On the return Qantas leave after midnight 00.20 or similar while BA leave before midnight about 23.30 I think, so you need to be careful what date your return is or else you could lose a day
  19. Residence Garden is 1350 on this site, but book early, wherever you are staying as December is always busy
  20. Well I just booked my flight the price has dropped again on this, it cost me 826 Euro which is 568 sterling with perfect link up times and no stops from LHR onward
  21. If you're in Thailand the best thing to do is go into one of the many travel agents, they will find you the best deal
  22. I stayed there two years ago, very cheap back then, fairly basic, but clean and staff are friendly, little bit of a walk to second road from Soi Buckaow (??) But for the price they charge it's well worth it, really depends on what you want to spend, you won't get a fantastic place at those prices
  23. Just browsing the Flight Sites trying to get the best deal I can for my October Trip. The variance in prices between "Sister"sites can be strange. For example with BA. I inputted 28th October outward and return on 8th Nov into the BA site which is the UK version http://www.britishairways.com/travel/home/public/en_gb The flights came back at £655.90 Sterling which equates to 966.68 Euro. But if you then search for a flight from Shannon in Ireland to BKK on the Irish version http://www.britishairways.com/travel/home/public/en_ie This returns a total price of 908 Euro which is 616.00 Sterling In this deal you fly on exactly the same plane from LHR to BKK and back, but you also get the SNN to LHR and back with Aer Lingus thrown in as well for a 40 quid cheaper fare than just flying from UK
  24. Travelled with Gulf Air once, no problem with hand luggage, but kept it to a small bag. I suppose if you try to carry a large case on as hand luggage you'll get agro and rightly so, how many times do you see passengers or crew struggling to get a large bag into the overhead lockers, it can be annoying especially when they stand blocking the Aisle for ten minutes or else the space that should be there for you is fully taken up by somebody elses kitchen sink
  25. Just got this newsletter from China Airlines June 25, 2005, Taipei, Taiwan ¡V Imagine sending and receiving e-mail on board an aircraft and performing on-line stock transactions, all while cruising at 36,000 feet. That dream is now possible, thanks to China Airlines and Connexion by Boeing¡¦s advanced technology. China Airlines has launched a groundbreaking new service that allows passengers to broadband access the Internet while on board selective CAL flights. In cooperation with Connexion by Boeing, China Airlines has installed its first-ever high-speed Internet service, on a Boeing 747-400. Passengers carrying personal computers with wireless network cards can now enjoy the convenience of Internet while flying. By installing antenna on aircraft, the Connexion system brings high-speed broadband Internet to CAL passengers via satellite and ground operation centers. By the end of 2005, more features will be available, including web TV channels and more entertainment options. To promote the new service, China Airlines will offer a 30-minute trial on board the aircraft by the end of September to serve passengers with different needs. China Airlines also designs flexible rate plans for the new service. Passengers will have the option of paying for a full sector, or they can pay US$9.95 for the first half hour, and US$0.25 for each additional minute. For the full sector rate, a sector of less than 3 hours will cost US$14.95, a sector of 3-6 hours will be US$19.95, and a sector of more than 6 hours will cost US$29.95. Passengers can choose to pay by credit card, and Chunghua Telecom users can choose to pay by direct billing to monthly statement. The first CBB-equipped aircraft will be dispatched on various China Airlines routes. Starting from October, all aircraft serving the Taipei-San Francisco route will be equipped with this state-of-the-art technology. By the end of 2006, all 13 of CAL¡¦s B747-400 passenger jets will be installed with the new service. At that time, passengers travelling to destinations including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Anchorage, Vancouver, Amsterdam and Japan can enjoy in-flight Internet service. Currently, only six other airlines offer in-flight Internet service: Lufthansa, SAS, Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways, Singapore Airlines and Korean Air. China Airlines becomes just the 7th carrier in the world to provide this cutting-edge technology.
