  1. Two niughts ago I asked for a white card but was advised that the scheme was finished. They were still advertising it in the toilets by the way.
  2. he vertical borers ghot into top gear today at the new site at the top of Soi 2. It is going to be a bit noisy during the day however I have a room backing onbto the Soi 2 Inn and can here nothing so no complaints from me. The building site is where the old beer bars were opposite the Classroom which in now the only place left serving drinks in the Soi.
  3. Here is an update, The construction is getting underway in Soi 2 with the boring machines now on site. Not a great deal of noise at this stage. There seems to be on occasion a hell of din coming from Soi 1 at the moment. It was very noticeable yesterday in the pool are which borders soi 2 so the noise does carry a bit. I have had zero issues with noise at the Sabai Inn. There are still baht buses running down the soi but they are looking for a taxi fare and rarely stop.
  4. Thanks for the invite. Will try to get there.
  5. If your looking in the short term for a Soi 2 room then try the Sabai Inn. I have stayed there a number of times and whilst there are some minor niggles its good value at the Internet rate and of course you have all the facilities of the Sabai pools. I will be there this week staying for almost 4 so I have faith in the place. The only real downer for me is lack of a balcony but as I am in the pool area all day, no real issue.
  6. I will be there next week and promise a full report!
  7. I was there the night in September when the city was flooded including the FLB. That was dramatic and a bit costly as I fell into a pot hole and ruined my best trousers!
  8. Well done to the UK Government. They have at long last bought in enough taxes to confirm that I miight never spend another razoo there. I have booked for this coming summer but that will probably be it for me unless of course local taxes rise in the same way but the current green taxes are just anti British.
  9. Thanks guys. I think that Mr T tops the poll so far.
  10. Just to throw some more petrol on the fire. I started a thread here last year asking about Oesteopaths. I have had no luck with chiropracters but have had a great load of relief from Oesteopaths hence I recommend them. There is apparently one guy out in Sukhumvit Road but I just didnt need him when I got there but perhaps someone else knows who he is.
  11. There has not been any recent reviews on the taxi scene. What happening out there? Whilst I usually use Mr T, I have also used Go but if I recall rightly their web site was hi-jacked a while ago and this caused some disquiet. Who has used what of recent times, what did they pay and who are you currently recommending?
  12. Have to say but that is pretty definative. Good, precise, focussed and thankfully brief review.
  13. Whatever else check this one out. Whereas you can in most cases be granted a 30 day visa on arrival in Thailand I believe that you are rrequired in almost all cases to have a Viet visa before arrival. This can be a costly error. Other than that there are all sorts of options to fly, drive or sail into Vietnam!
  14. THis is IMHO a good move in that these reviews are required reading both before and while you are in Payttaya. I also like the principal that one OP has started of doing a single go go review.
  15. Thanks for that. He is new to me but I will be looking for some more.
  16. I somehow think that if when travelling we knew all the local laws that we as tourist were supposed to adhere to that we would stay at home! Its all a lottery. I have mentioned on another thread about riding a motor bike in Cambodia without a license. This can get you arrested, jailed and fined a bomb but no one seems to bother. I believe in Myanama there are dreadful penalties for taking one of thos smelly Durain fruits into a hotel and some tourists have been hammered for replacing half the furniture and fitting for having broke that one. Common sense seems to dictate what we do rather than what we have to do.
  17. I for one have always been a late starter. I go out tennish, eat and hit the streets at say 11pm. All that a crackdown will do for my nights out in Pattay is to get me on the streets earlier. This of course will get me into more happy hours and so my drinking becomes cheaper .Lets see the place as a half full glass because as sure as hell I can get into all sorts of shit in Pattaya wahtever the hours. I can start early in Ban Chang for that matter if thats what I have to do. If however I decide to start late as usual perhaps I will get better value from bar fines as I will be less pissed and into the sack a little earlier. This is not the end of the world, just the start of another phase.
  18. Hardly the point. All the BM asked for was suggestions and at least I did just that. How am I to know (or care) what the situation was regarding a card in Brazil. One more point. For many the cost of a gold card is just a few dollars more than the annual cost of a standard credit card. If I travel say 3 times a year the savings to me are many hundreds of dollars and I at least do have some cover.
  19. I rarely bother to watch the so called amazing stuff that people send me but this was worth the time and trouble. Its a real cracker so thatnks.
  20. Good to hear. I was goinh to ask as I am due in Pattaaya this month. Yeah!
  21. Sorry, wrong. I will copy for you direct from my policy. " ... applies for all travel of up to 90 days duration... This also goes on to say that..."...Extensions of cover can be arranged ...
  22. Thanks Marc. You took the time to communicate with us so I will take the time later this month to check things out.
  23. Just a suggestion. Why not look at the web sites of your banks in Brazil to see if any of them have insurance with their gold cards? This is all I use and at least some insurance is a lot better than none. The cost of upgrading to a GC is nominal compared to what you will pay in insurance.
