Couple questions about the Queen Victoria Inn.
BigDUSA replied to MetalDog's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Bert speaks a similar language that we yanks can somewhat understand on a good day. Instead of a budda I prefer a live bit of Thai authenticity in my room. -
I have to disagree with clubman on this. I lived on 1K per day including hotel and live in GF in Pattaya. I stayed at Sky-Top and didn't go out drinking every day. I did what I usually do at home as I wanted to see if Pattaya was doable on this budget. I had a good time at this level. If I lived up country 1K would go further. When I come on vacation I have a lot more money to spend at least 1100 per day. Edit in: BigD how do you spend your time at home? I don't do much of nothing and I generally don't get stated until noon.

grahamdeb, What airline do you fly. To hell with fequent flyer miles, I want to fly Swingers Air. Book me now.

Best thing to do is call UA and ask. The answer to your question is difficult because of the various ticket classes with different rules.

Elevated road parallell with Walking Street?
BigDUSA replied to elef's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Latest rumor has it that the same company that designed the BKK subway system wants to do the same in Pattaya. One proposed route has the subway going up Beach Rd continuing up Walking Street and that one of the stations will be located where the FLB is. -

Couple questions about the Queen Victoria Inn.
BigDUSA replied to MetalDog's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I haven't stayed at the Queen Vic but I've eaten there many times and the food is good. The location is great and the owner is well liked. They have many repeat customers. Yes they are guest friendly and Pattaya is in high season and the hotels charge more. They will cut there prices in low season. I have no info on the different rooms. -
Thai is accepting booking for the new non stop JFK-BKK. Cost $967USD return. This a good price for the start of the US high season. Only 17 hours flying time. Edit in: From what I understand service starts 1 May.
-
In the US it's high season for air travel. Price will break after 15 September. That's not a bad price.

2 single guys wanting to spend $1500-$2000
BigDUSA replied to peachlover's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Sabai Lodge good location very close to Beach Road. Nova Lodge another good place on Beach Road. Both these places are in your price range and have good location. Residence Garden is good but the location for me is a bit off putting. Lot of guys love it. Edit in: change to Nova Lodge -
Where are you staying in Pattaya? I'm at Sky-Top. Let hook up for a beer.

Monthly Rate at Hotels in Pattaya
BigDUSA replied to Angelo02's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Some hotels offer stay for 14 and pay for 10. Sunshine on soi 8 and the Flippers offer this during low season. -
Remind Alex he has to pick ME up at the airport at 11:30PM. Thanks, BigDUSA

I got Nova Park and Nova Lodge mixed up.

bintang, Try and get your seat on the left side of the plane as close to the door as you can. Hustle your butt up to immigration and try and beat the crowd. In the baggage area on the wall past customs are two money change machine. Decent rates. Duty free shop further down the same wall has good prices on booze and cigs. Check the meeting section and look under reliable car and driver. Fair number of car services are listed there. I like Alex myself but a few guys have had problems with him. I haven't. Since this is your first time you want a driver who knows Pattaya. Enjoy your stay. Anyone of the hotels you have listed are good places to stay. Nova Park has excellent location on Beach Road.

No transit visa required in HKG.

Hub, It's not a shitty deal far from it. You brought up a couple of good points in a previous post. Difference in travel time. UA is a longer trip thru Narita but not all CX flights are non stop. I flew JFK to Vancouver with a 1 hour or so layover. On to Hong Kong with another layover. You save a couple of hours. Downside is when you come back to JFK. I get in so late I miss the last shuttle to Philly and have to rent a room at JFK, ouch. UA is part of Star Alliance where you can use your frequent flyer miles on Thai, SQ and many others. Last trip UA was unable to book me on UA metal for a freebie. They got me out on Thai. If I wanted to go to Newark I could have gone on SQ. For the guy who comes once a year and does no other flying. He pays for three and the fourth one is free assuming he flys from the east coast. Frequent flyer miles are a nice benefit. I understand that some guys may want to save $100. on this deal but it's not available all year. Other guys have gone off on western flight attendants because the women are older and it has annoyed me. You were the last one to walk thru the door.
-
Hub, No problem on my end if your unwilling/unable to explain your 50 y/o union slag comment. BTW, it's still not a good deal if you come to Thailand more then once or twice. If it works for you fine.
-
Hub, You were the one who mentioned "50 y/o union slag with cankles and bad attitude". Explain what you mean. Sinister view, I don't think so I just took your comment out to one possible conclusion based on what you wrote. Why are you bringing up comments I made to you in a unrelated thread where I attempted to answer question's YOU posed to me. I'm satisfied with the answers I gave you. I guess your not. So if you get the chance can you answer what is a 50 y/o union slag?
-
I've stayed at the following hotels and they are all good value for the money. Sky-Top cheapest of the lot but good rooms for the money. Flipper Lodge & House good pool, in room massage. Pig & Whistle good food and bar. I like the rooms. Eastiny good pool, big rooms. Marriott expensive for Pattaya but excellent resort. Pattaya Park Hotel best place to take my family. Full service resort and water park away from the nite life. This hotel is in Jomtiem.

The listed seat pitch on CX (32") is better than UA (31"). PTVs, better food, hotter FAs on CX. Bring you drinks until you climb onto the beverage cart and start slinging your own poop. Potential 50-YO union slag with cankles and bad attitude on UA with likely not as good of service. Hub, What is a 50 y/o union slag? What is cankles? I've got almost 500,000 paid miles with UA and maybe two or three times I've experienced a hassle with the flight crew. I take it you want to fire the older flight attendants so you can look at younger women. Interesting point of view. Screw their pension. They don't need the money. What do you think happens to the young Asian crew when they get older? They get fired and replaced. I take it you haven't flown UA international. The number of times they go around with drinks back in the cheap seats is comparable to the Asian carriers including CX. I'll give you the 1" seat pitch and PTV. Food on the Asian carriers is as hit or miss as on UA, NWA which I've flown to BKK and S'pore many times. Edit in: If it wasn't for union slags fighting 100 years ago you wouldn't have the 8 hour day, sick or vacation time, paid health care all brought to you by us union slags.

Many US airlines fly Airbus metal. Why would the Pres push one way or the other. Airlines will buy the plane if the figure they can make money with it.
-
Hate to rain on anyones parade but this is not a good deal. No frequent flyer miles. I can book Philly or Newark to BKK on UA for $695+.
-
Interesting no American carriers have ordered any? Maybe they are waiting for Boeing new Dreamliner?
