  1. The "dream" is getting much closer then Airbus is to delivering the 380. BTW, I don't care if Airbus or Boeing metal gets us to LOS as long as it get's us here.
  2. That's why they call it the prototype stage of development. Long way aways from the flying it with paying customers stage.
  3. Your insight on this subject is well insightful. I look forward to reading more posts by you.
  4. Sky-Top offers same day service at a reasonable price. They actually have washers and dryers and they use soap. I especially like that my clothes don't smell like they were washed in a sewer.
  5. Boeing has been outsourcing major component work for many years. Nothing new.
  6. BTW since your bringing family this hotel is away from the nite life but not that far you can't go for a ST by Sky-Train to Nana. This is a GREAT family hotel. I've had my family stay there.
  7. Gregg's Kitchen, good service but average food that is way overpriced. I paid 285 for fish & chip that was tasty but the other restaurant's in the area had the same for 195. manracer, Food you eat at 8PM doesn't cause you to get sick at 11PM unless it has a heavy metallic taste. One of the reasons it so difficult to track down food borne illness it generally takes three to five days for the symptoms to appear.
  8. While Airbus has run into some production snags with its A380 Superjumbo that have cost it customers, Boeing appears to be moving ahead on schedule with its smaller 787 Dreamliner. Boeing just recently announced that it has completed the "virtual rollout" of its new composite-bodied aircraft. "Today's virtual rollout is the culmination of many months of effort by thousands of team members at Boeing and its 787 partners. Through the use of our new digital toolset, provided by Dassault Systemes, the team has proven the ability to manufacture 787 designs," said Mike Bair, VP and GM for the Dreamliner program. Through the use of a powerful Dassault computer/software system, Boeing has been able to trim costs by 20% and cut a year from production on the Dreamliner. Engineers have also been able to see how parts will fit together in the virtual world before running into possible snags on a real production line. "Our tools have enabled us to model the entire production process from our partners' factories to our own. We have found errors in simulation that would have been costly to find in production and have been able to design corrections quickly to keep the program on track," said Bair. If you may recall, the Airbus A380 has been delayed by a year due to problems with the electrical harness which consists of 100,000 wires and 40,300 connectors. These problems were found during production rather than earlier in the design process of the aircraft. Boeing is currently taking steps to reduce weight on the Dreamliner by switching from aluminum to titanium on some parts used in the aircraft. In order to meet the design targets for fuel efficiency and range, the switch to titanium is a necessity. Not surprisingly, the computer simulations have been instrumental in pointing out critical components that are ripe for the switch to titanium. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is expected to make its first flight in August of 2007 with delivery starting in 2008. As of now, Boeing has orders for 458 planes from 37 customers. "It's a challenge, no doubt about it. This is the team, all of us together -- our customers, our partners and each of us -- who will bring this airplane to life. It's an amazing journey from where we started just four years ago. But the best part is yet to come," said Bair. This for the Airbus fanboys:
  9. I've stayed there couple of times. Good hotel, clean, girl friendly but book a double, 10 minute walk to Sky-Train. I would stay there again.
  10. Could be a very long wait for the 380 to roll out of the factory. I wouldn't be surprised if Airbus runs into further delays. I've flown Thai a few times from the US to BKK. Better service and food back in the cheap seats then UA.
  11. The other night I had a very good fish & chip dinner at Secret's Bar.
  12. 200 baht all night works for me. BTW I won't BF from a bar at the 500-600+ level.
  13. This cheap Charley plans on getting there early and staying late.
  14. At the very end of Beach Road in Jomtiem is a Thai seafood joint. Very tasty food and good prices.
  15. I like Tropical Bert's on soi 6/1. I find the American breakfast very tasty and cheap.
  16. I would recommend getting a full medical checkup in the US before you make the move. I've done so recently and was lucky I had the nasty kind of skin cancer diagnosed early and my prognosis is excellent. On your budget of 75K per month you can live like a minor King but your living quarters will be further away from the beach. Liv in GF runs between 6-10K per month + -.
  17. Yes but also available on Expedia and Travelocity. I took my own advice and booked my 4th trip to Pattaya this year. Looks like I'll make premier exec again.
  18. You want to go to Pattaya Park Hotel in Jomtiem. On the beach with a huge water park for the kiddies. Away from the nite life but close enough for dad to partake. Hotel is clean family centric. I've stayed there with my family and plan on staying there again when I bring my family back to LOS next April.
  19. I like the grub at Tequila Reef on soi 7. Serve a decent steak and OK Mexican food. Give the fish & chip a try. They do it Mexican style that IMHO is quite tasty.
  20. I arrive on UA 837, 29 November at 11:40PM and looking to share the cost. I have a driver already sorted out as soon as lostinspace get's back to me.
  21. UA has flights from Philly to BKK for $850USD return all taxes included. Early December availability.
  22. I've stayed at the Pig & Whistle, Eastany and Flipper Lodge. All good hotels right on soi 7 or 8. Good location and in your price range. BTW girl friendly.
  23. Thailand has three seasons, hot, damn hot and fucking damn hot. May thru September can be brutal. Temp is better in October thru March. Many friendly "tour guides" available year round.
