  1. On that, I agree. The soup is hearty and full of flavor, and not sweet. Chinese food in middle America is pretty disgusting. Chinese food in the SF Bay Area and, I believe, LA, is eaten by ethnic Chinese in their own community, so it is less modified, except for using better ingredients. Also, the variety of regional styles, esp Szechuan, Hunan, put the typical Cantonese glop to shame IMO. I am not knocking W&R, since it's clear it has a strong, esp British following, and is reputed to be the best of its kind in town. Like many British dishes that are popular here, I just find
  2. If that is an example of that style, no. Too much cloying sweet sauces glopped all over everything for me. It's just not my style of food in any sense of the word. It might be a shining example of Glaswegian Chinese food, but as far as my taste buds, developed around the San Francisco Bay area where a huge Chinatown exists, it's inedible.
  3. Wish I could find just one or two things on their menu that I don't end up tossing in the trash.

  5. My local 7-11 "mega store" is now rationing cigarettes to no more than 2 packs to a customer. I wonder if a new tax addon is coming, and they want to prevent stocking up at the lower price?
  6. Marlboro Light cigarettes jumped 20 baht yesterday, going from 125 to 145. In the last two years the price has almost doubled.

  8. Yes and yess. This is what happens when the govt is not accountable to the people, when it rules by guns rather than votes. Why should they care about inconveniences to citizens? I'm sure when the rates come out (they may have already) that there will be a scramble to implement the new pricing.
  9. I'm surprised this topic hasn't been mentioned here...or has it? If it has, would someone tell me where? There are various memes about giving the proposed tax rates, but as of this moment, no one, including 7-11, Family Mart and even wholesale distributors has said they know what the new tax rates are for each product. In the days prior to the initial date of the tax increase (today, Sat 16/9/2017) there have been runs on cigarettes and liquor/beer, so much so that many stores are rationing how many cans/cases/bottles or packs you can buy. So, this is a typical junta program..
  10. The missus and I finally got around to visiting Sugarbaby last night. I had taken it off my crawl list months ago after Windmill opened the upstairs section and moved the best remaining girls at Sugarbaby to Windmill. Happily, I see that the quality of dancers now has risen from its lows after that decimating event. It was good to see Patna. He seems to be working out well. Good luck to him. He has a special place in my wife's and my estimation, because he took the time and trouble to go up to Ubon for our village wedding, and made some superb photos of the event :
  11. I'm curious who all these bar owners and friends of bar owners are. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  12. I'm not interested in a second season...it sort of left me wondering why I spent hours watching it. Too quirky for me. I hope the book was better. BTW, the flies were a memorable touch. I did like that story line.
  13. Looks really good...downloading now! Thanks!
  14. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g293919-d12064944-Reviews-Dave_s_Cantina-Pattaya_Chonburi_Province.html#MAPVIEW It's in an area at the southern edge of "South Pattaya"...take 3rd Road across Pattaya Tai, heading south, turn left at the first light on to Soi Kromteedin (Regionalland on many maps). Follow the road till you see the big green sign above that says "Dave's Cantina".
  15. I was just in Dave's Cantina tonight and there was a table of 3 Thais ordering dish after dish. I peeked at their bill folder when they paid, and it was 1500 baht. My wife also likes the tortilla soup, the tamales, and the quesadillas. Beans, no. Mexican rice, ok, but not thrilled.
  16. I was in a Thai restaurant last night when a couple came by with a big bucket of honey in honeycombs. I bought 750ml of honey for 300 baht.
  17. I'll drop by the next time I go out. I've been staying in lately due to over-taxing myself for a few weeks.
  18. I'm well aware you said American restaurant. You're weird. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  19. Best iced tea in town is special made at Misty's Really, I can't think of any reason to single out iced tea reviews in every review of a restaurant. In fact, I can't think of a single reason why anyone would mention it. Up to Evil if he wants to do that, but I think your request is bonkers (as usual).
  20. Good idea! I'll give it some thought, and if I feel up to it I'll give my reasons. I don't think it would be a spoiler to say that I just felt that the last episode didn't live up to the excitement of the previous three. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  21. Without giving any reasons let me just say that I thought the season finale was a waste of time. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  22. I drove through there a few days ago and I thought the signage was very clear that motor cycles were not allowed in the tunnel. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  23. I usually come by motorbike so I lose track of which floor. It seems like a basement floor, because at either end, the beach or second Road, you have to go up stairs to get to the ground level (I think). Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
  24. That's the only restaurant I eat at in Central lower floor (ground or basement, I can never remember).
