Catch me when I'm not busy and it can happen.... You did.

The water came back yesterday morning I think. Checked the tank and it's full again, so now water is running into the tank and then into the house. It was that direct connection to the mains when the place was unrented for a few months, I believe. Until this incident, I had no reason to wonder what the setup was. All better now, I hope. Thanks for all the assistance, guys.

Oh yes, verbal accompaniment gives extra points!

I'd like to see your pictures...

I'm not sure I'd give this report much credence at all. BigD is just using it to disparage Thailand, and ignores the higher rating given to many first world countries. My main issue with the report is that there's no fucking country named "America". If they can't even get that right, what point is there in repeating the results?

You're living in a country that made the top ten, and where food poisoning is at a higher rate than Thailand!

Just take a bus from Bangkok to Arunyaprathet, get over the border to Poipet and negotiate a taxi (car or van) to Siem Reap. You don't really need a travel agency or company.

Ball valves, check valves, manual valves, pipes and fittings...all this is Greek to me. The most I know about plumbing is if I turn on the tap and water comes out, it's working. Now my pressing question is..when the city water comes back on, how will I know?

Haven't checked in a while, but there are usually BBQ rotisserie chicken vendors along Thappraya on the left as you go to Jomtien before the hill...between Residence Garden and Soi 5 where there's some empty space. Also, there are several at the junction of Thappraya and 3rd Road. As you come down 3rd from Pattaya Tai, there's a left turn lane to Thappraya at the overpass..rather than turning left to Thappraya, take the small road that turns back parallel to 3rd road...

You may be right...they do need better looking models though.

This is potentially very bad news for those of us who buy Australian beef exclusively. I haven't seen any major price shifts yet.

jacko, I'm glad you mentioned the possible depletion of the water faster than I thought. I just checked and it's got about 10% remaining in the tank. As for our "strange system", I'll look into that. I think we must have been bypassing the tank (it's a rental unit) permanently. Would running off city water directly obviate the need to run the pump? My impression is that the pump hadn't been used in a while, since it needed to be primed.

Yes, I have a storage tank...never used it before, but mistakenly thought it was inline with the city water and would be full when the city water was shut off. That was wrong, obviously. That fill up cost 250 baht..the water is kind of "spicy" and not quite clear. I made the mistake of rinsing my mouth with some after brushing my teeth. That won't happen again! Getting the pump started was a challenge, luckily dealt with by our Thai friend who realized it needed to be primed (and my wife realizing the valve needed to be opened between the pump and the tank ). I am hopeless at

First time I had to order one of these myself...250 baht for a fill up. The water's a bit dusky, but it's better than nothing.

Here's the announcement...apparently service won't be available in the areas listed until Tues at the earliest (3 or 4 days outage total). We're trying to get a water truck now, but given the massive geographical scope of the outage, it might be a long wait.

Tonight, mid evening, our water shut off. The missus found an announcement from Banglamung officials saying they were installing underground electric lines parallel to the water conduits, and that water would be shut off to many areas of Pattaya and Jomtien. The installation was to finish at 11 pm tonight. It's 5:30 am and the taps are dry. Who else is affected by this shut off? No showers until the water is back could lead to a bunch of stinky locals.

Just back from a long grueiling drive from Thapprasit to Naklua Bon Cafe to get my Saeco repaired for the same problem it had last month. Well, they made a dozen or more cups of coffee and the problem, of course, did not appear except one time. "A ha!" I exclaimed while the attendant looked askance at the machine.. She did a little jiggle and shake with the water reservoir that made the red light go out and proceeded to make a dozen more cups of coffee. I, of course, was ready to demand (politely while smiling) that they fix whatever caused it, but my missus piped up and said "I kn -

Well, I certainly hope they continue that enforcement up to, and including, the very entrance to Walking Street on Soi 14, which is clogged by motorbike taxi drivers from well before 7pm. Also, let's hope they brush away all those food vendors and touts on Soi 15 that would impede any emergency vehicle trying to get to WS. -
That's only good for the following 2 weeks, AFAIK.The rates are dependent on travel dates in most cases, wherever you book. Without that information, it's really pointless to try to help.
