  2. Skyfall Agogo was shut last night apparently due to staff beating a (probably obnoxious) foreigner. I heard that he hit the staff first, but the police say that doesn't matter anyway.

    MOVIE QUIZ #10

    L.A. Confidential
  4. Why would it be illegal to issue an invoice for consulting work in a one person operation? That's the way I've always done it. Who else is gonna legitimately issue the invoice?
  5. It's the same location and building as Shenanigans, isn't it? That spot has been through at least 3 name changes...I can't recall the one(s) between Shenanigan's and Dicey at this moment though. Was it some name that had the word "Moore" in it? I just found out last night that (I was told) Tavern By the Sea was the old Henry J. Beans building. True?
  6. Damn! It's been hot here last few days.

  7. This little story offers another simple explanation of the inserted "F" in the pronunciation. Many years ago as a student I took a summer job working in my local greengrocers shop. Towards the end of a busy day, a hatchet-faced lady came in and after looking around, she looked down her nose and said Id like a savoy cabbage please.. I replied, Im sorry madam but weve run out of cabbage today, would you like a cauliflower? The lady huffed and puffed and said But I want a savoy cabbage. I tried to sound sympathetic and replied, I am sorry, its been a very busy day and we have no cabbage, would you like to try some broccoli Once again the lady huffed and puffed and repeated now in a very cross tone that suggested the shortage was my fault, I said I wanted a savoy cabbage. I am sorry madam I responded, again trying to be helpful, what about some spinach or chard ? Now the lady became very angry and almost spat out the words, slowly and meanlyI told you I wanted a savoy S.A.VO.Y cabbage you idiot. I looked at her carefully, Madam, I told you we have no ..CABBAFG.E cabbage ! She glared at me You idiot, theres no F in cabbage! I replied very slowly, Madam, thats what Ive been trying to tell you for the past five minutes!
  8. Aside from the 30 minute baht bus ride to actually visit the branch and go to the 2nd (?) desk on the left as you go in (which is labelled something to do with International or Foreign), you did well. I had the same problem initially...I couldn't put faith in doing the exchange rate calculation and I gave up on the phone service..wasn't lucky or persistent enough to get someone who could definitively say what the amounts were in USD, so I went to the 2nd Road branch across from Soi 6. There it was a piece of cake when I spoke to the girl at that desk..she even gave me a print out of the transfer with amounts in USD and THB. Congratulations, looks like you're all set!
  9. I just order my first 2 items from Aliexpress. They say 15-34 days to arrive via China Post...I hope not, but will see.
  10. I think the post office trip is more likely if you live in a condo without an office person available to take delivery, or a house that they either can't find or need someone to receive the item.I've made many trips to the various post offices which seem to be determined randomly, even with the same mailing address on the packages.
  11. I hope this doesn't make it into US law.
  12. Ha! Evil, I was there with a party of 6 before you got there, a little after 2pm, and we ate all the meat. Yes, it was an excellent meal..and you're right about the vegetables...they are nicely cooked, not overcooked. It was my second time there this month, and I'll try to go again. Thankfully, another BM was driving and knew the way, but others in the group were going for the first time, and had a very hard time finding it.
  13. Ah, the infamous "out for delivery"...and then nothing status. Usually that means a trip to some post office.

    MOVIE QUIZ #10

    Joaquin Phoenix
  15. No they aren't fixed...in fact, I was watching the guy string them up, and as I said earlier, if necessary or they are called on it, they would be very easy to take down. Still, they are probably illegal depending on which Thai policeman has the balls to go up against Insomnia's doings...and that's not likely.
  16. It seems they think so too.
  17. Damned phone!
  18. The latest in safety zone facilities. Speaking of low hanging signs..check these out..

  20. Also, let us know if you have any problems with the test deposits they make to confirm your external bank connection.. There's a few issues there you might run into.
  21. I opened an account with them last year, and it's just great. ACH transfer works flawlessly, though sometimes it takes more time than I expect due to US or Thai holidays or weekends. The conversion rate from USD to THB is quite good as well. I got the chipped card so I am limited to using Bangkok Bank ATMs it seems. They're not as common as say, KBank or SCB, which seem to be everywhere, so I have had to memorize ATM locations rather than just using the nearest one from another bank. It's no big deal though. All in all, I find them quite good.
  22. Here's a photo that shows something I consider so sad... It's the entryway to Covent Garden, the former home of formerly wonderful venues such as Club Boesche, Catz/Toyz, Relaxx, Xzone, Pepe's, and many other names that tried to make it in that location. It's my opinion that the 4 bar complex was killed when Club Boesche melted down and closed. There was never a big enough draw to pull people in there after that. A fond farewell to one of the best locations in town...
  23. Not sure what the motivation for redoing the front signage. It seems to be too subdued in the grab for attention that many of the other bars are doing. Incidentally, Insomnia was putting up a cloth sign last night that was very low...in fact, I doubt it was high enough to allow an electrical repair truck to pass. I hope they took it down at 3am, when traffic was allowed on the street.
  24. Peppermint's new sign...I cant see why they bothered to change it..this one is blue and hardly catches the eye, IMHO. The Russian gogo next to LD1 had a couple of Russian dancers outside. The blonde on the left had a huge crowd watching her. She was actually VERY good. I probably should have made a video instead of these two crummy snapshots.
