Sure but it's on the way to the Naklua market...
-
You really need a car if you stay there, most thai-farang families have 2. We just have one car and one motorbike but I don't stay permanent in Thailand and also have a hotel room in Pattaya for late nights. A small motorbike can take you to the shop or one of the small markets, but for shopping in Carrefour and Naklua market (my TGF goes there almost every day) you must have a car. The traffic on Sukhumvit is damned dangerous and there're several accidents every day. I haven't seen any baht bus line and friends without cars use bahtbuses as taxis, but I've never asked how much they pay - I guess 150-200-250 (depending on what time it is) baht from Walking Street.

Yes! +66 add an 8 + old thai mobile number without the '0', or in Thailand 0 + 8 + rest of old mobile number

The hotel is good if you want to stay with one girl all the time, the area is nice too and I never had any problem with gays/lesbians, but if you want to take new BGs back every night or walk to the different hot areas from Sois 2/3 in north to Walking Street in south. this isn't the best hotel to stay.

I stayed there some nights in february, at that time still constructions works at Mind Resort next to this hotel. Nice pool, room normal, but too far away from action if you're not gay or lesbian. Good hotel for the prices you'll find on their website Most of the guests were french gay guys and thai families.

I didn't see Petes post, as an alternative way from Pattaya Klang just drive 2nd Rd passing the Dolphin and you're on Naklua Rd.

Banglamung Post Office - Naklua Rd

Same owner for both hotels (and Sabai Resort), Sabai Inn and Lodge have same standard and normally same prices.

I think there're something like 30 international schools in Pattaya - Chonburi area now, most are english, but at least one french/english in Jomtien. They usually have extra computer classes but far from advanced as the teachers are far from advanced themselves and often from Phillippines. Computer speed isn't good in Thailand, some internet cafes have adsl with 56 kbps, some 256.... The speed is not so bad inside Thailand but if you want to reach international sites maybe 20 % of normal speed. (I've 8 Mb or 25 Mbps here in Sweden) So Pattaya area is no good place for a computer genius - you can find better alternatives in BKK!

I agree 100 % with Pete, I've seen a lorry distribute the beggars on Beach Rd in the morning once. Also one time saw a paralysed man on the pavement outsite the bars hanging on Sabai Land. He asked for money and moved slowly sitting on his ass until a thai man tried to kick him out on the street, a miracle happened and the paralysed man run over 2nd Rd and disappeared in the crowds.

You did not booked your return fligtht out of Don Muang, you booked it out of BKK and BKK was transfered to new airport on september 28th 03.00 am.

I went there with TGF some years ago. A 2 day trip from Pattaya with minibus including hotel was less than 2000 at that time. You'll probably find some promotion in all hotels, if not ask in the reception. Else any travel agency and tour booth will sell a tour for you.

TROPICAL DEPRESSION Xangsane set to hit Bangkok today Storm downgraded but has already brought heavy rain to Northeast, lower North Typhoon Xangsane brought heavy rain to many parts of the country yesterday. Phichit was especially hard hit and three villages were under near-ly three metres of water. Xangsane was downgraded to a depression on Sunday evening but continued to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the Northeast - including Ubon Ratchathani's Muang and Khong Chiam districts and Sawang Weerawong sub dis-trict. Dozens of trees and electric pylons were felled in Warin Chamrap district. Many roads were blocked. Khon Kaen's Chi River broke its banks and flooded homes and 10,000 rai of farmland in Wang Yai district. Local authorities dis-patched boats with relief supplies. In Buri Ram, three passengers in a pickup were injured when the vehicle was hit by a falling tree on Ban Kruat-Lahan Sai Road in Ban Kruat district. Many roads in Muang district were also flooded. However, rainfall brought relief to farmers and 3.5 million rai of drought-stricken rice crops. Buri Ram reservoirs are brimming. Sirikit Dam in Uttaradit, Bhumipol Dam in Tak and Pasak Cholasit Dam in Lop Buri were all forced to release water. The Bhumipol and Pasak Cholasit dams are spilling a combined 35 million cubic metres a day. Nearby residents have been warned to be alert to rising river levels. In Sam Ngam district in Phichit, Nong Bua and Tha Thong villages were under three metres of water as a result of rains and Yom River flooding. Villagers were running low on food and water. A Pho Prathap Chang district village headman Somyos Kongkleu, 50, was said to have committed suicide after residents became angry and blamed him for insufficient relief supplies. In Angthong, the Chao Phya Dam was forced to spill water causing the Chao Phya River to burst a 60-metre stretch of a flood-protection dyke in Muang district yesterday morning. Two houses were destroyed and another 700 flooded within 20 minutes of the breach. Boats evacuated residents - some injured. In Chon Buri's Sattahip district, the Royal Thai Navy dispatched 350 officers to help load 15,200 relief bags for the Princess Pa Foundation to deliver to flood-affected villagers in five northern provinces. In Uthai Thani, officials reported 69 villages and 15,403 rai of farmland in Muang, Thap Than, Nong Chang, Sawang Arom, and Nong Kha Yang were flooded, affecting 3, 617 residents. Nearly 200 Naresuan University students in Phitsanulok has been hospitalised since last week after drinking water suspected of being contaminated by bacteria caused by flooding. Disaster prevention official Wanchai Chaowanapanja said the seven provinces in the upper South - especially Phang Nga, Phuket and Krabi - were at risk of floods and landslides. In Phang Nga, the body of a three-year-old boy was recovered 400 metres from where he was swept away by floodwaters on Saturday. In Chiang Mai, Governor Suwat Tantipat said Bt1 million would be spent to help residents in Samoeng district - declared a disaster zone after the Kong Jok earth dam burst on Saturday, destroying homes and flooding 400 rai of farmland. The Mineral Resources Department warned of landslides in highland and hill-country areas of Ubon Ratchathani, Si Sa Ket, Loei, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chaiyaphum, Trat, Chanthaburi, Sa Kaew, Prachin Buri, Phetchabun, Phitsanulok, Uttaradit, Phrae, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Tak, Lampang, Trang, Phatthalung, Satun, and Songkhla. The weather Department said Xangsane would reach central Thailand this morning. Heavy rain and flash floods were expected in the lower North, Northeast, East and Central Thailand - including Greater Bangkok. The south-west monsoon would bring rain and associated flooding to Ranong, Chumphon, and Phang Nga. The Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea could expect two- to three-metre swells. A maritime warning is in force. Xangsane weakened from a typhoon to a depression after it hit land and headed towards Thailand. It now packs winds up to 55 kilo-metres per hour and is travelling south-west at 15 kilometres an hour. The Nation

FLOOD PREPARATIONS Parts of city drained as typhoon nears Rainfall - not sea tides or Chao Phya - the major factor in whether capital will flood; Suvarnabhumi 'not in danger area' The Royal Irrigation Department chief has ordered officials to keep draining water from submerged parts of eastern Bangkok into the Bang Pakong River and the Gulf of Thailand. The capital will also have to brace itself for Typhoon Xangsane - now battering the Philippines and moving towards the South China Sea - which will affect Thailand's weather on Sunday. While some areas would suffer from flooding due to heavy rains, the newly opened Suvarnabhumi Airport would not be affected, department chief Samart Chokkanapitak said. Following the airport's opening yesterday, the department plans to revamp 17 existing canals in eastern Bangkok and construct a new one from Samrong to Chai Talae, located on the coast, to increase water drainage. Samart insisted the high sea tides and floodwaters from the North - which are passing through the Chao Phya River at a rate of 2,423 cubic metres per second - would not submerge Bangkok. "The only factor that can cause flooding is heavy rainfall," he said. Eastern Bangkok's Srinakarin, Pattanakarn and Ramkhamhaeng roads were knee-deep in water after Wednesday night's heavy downpours in Suan Luang, Prawet and Saphan Sung districts. Many residents in small sois were unable to leave home for work, prompting authorities to send trucks to give them a lift. Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin, who yesterday morning inspected the routes, said officials worked hard to drain floodwaters out of the areas and the situation should be back to normal by this afternoon. Yesterday morning the Chao Phya River stood at 1.77 metres and was expected to rise to 1.8 metres by the evening, a level the flood barriers could handle, said Apirak. Apirak called a meeting of 50 district heads to tackle the floods. He said the accumulated rainfall this year was 1,128 millilitres and that Typhoon Xangsane would bring heavy rainfall to Bangkok and the Kingdom's Central, eastern and southern regions. The Bhumibol, Sirikit and Pasak Jorasit dams were now 90 per cent full and if there was more rain in the North, these dams would have to release water - which would affect Bangkok. In the meantime, communities located outside the city's flood barriers - such as Bang Phlat district's Soi Charansanitwong 86 and 92 and Bang Sue district's 50 homes under Rama VI bridge - suffered saltwater flooding triggered by the massive seasonal inflows from the Gulf of Thailand. Officials installed pumps to drain the water and were assigned to be on watch for flood conditions 24 hours a day. Meanwhile, public boat services on San Saeb Canal will be suspended for five days due to the high water level caused by heavy downpours, while Chao Phya River express boats are being told to slow down to reduce the impact on riverside residents. Pairat Boondam, manager of the Family Transport Ltd - whose 70 craft provide 400 trips per day for 40,000 people - said boats could no longer pass under some bridges and those travelling at speed would cause a tidal surge to wash over riverside properties. As a result, the company will cease operations for five days, after which time they would assess the flood situation and determine when to resume the service, he said. Parinya Rakwathin of Chao Phraya Express Boat Co Ltd, which handles 38,000 passengers on weekdays and 30,000 on the weekend, said the company would be running as usual but advised its boat drivers to lower their speed from 15km per hour to 8kph. I agree about business in general, but not about land. The thais don't want foreigners to own land so any political party having such ideas will lose an election.
