  1. Thanks Guys......but I got it wrong, I'm actually in the Majestic Grande. However I realise it is only just down the road a bit and should disembark from the Skytrain at the station after Nana. Karunda....I will be in Pattaya from the 14th May. So if you fancy a pint send me a PM and we will make an arrangement to meet somewhere.
  2. I will be travellin from Pattaya into Ekami Bus Station, Bangkok at the end of May. I have booked 3 nights in the Majestic Suites. Does anybody know how long would a taxi ride be and how much could I expect to pay from the Bus Station to the Hotel?
  3. I agree....you are easy pleased if you are happy stayin there. Love the bar but the rooms are awful.
  4. I agree with other posters, as much as I like Anna Jet as a bar the rooms are awful. Sabai Inn, Soi 2, I minute walk from the beach at 700 B for a standard room is great value for money
  5. Thanks for the info. Mr Toom is building a bit of a reputation. Looks like he can come up with the goods. I will use him on my next trip.
  6. Why don't you PM Hammer and ask him to get one of his girls to get a number for you. His bar is on Soi.8. I'm sure he would be happy to help.
  7. It would be a good idea to tell us where it is taking place or would you prefer us all to wait for the result to be announced on this board.
  8. Word on the Soi is that is more and more looking like a 2007 opening.
  9. And I will tell you what else. The differences between a superior and standard is in the superior you get a bath (is that really necessary) and a hairdryer. Cost of the Standard Room in the low season is 700.B
  10. StefenH........I dont think he was referring to Mr. Toom's service. Once you collect your bags in BKK who will then go through customs, turn left and head towards the crowds and Mr. Toom will be waitin for you with your name on a board. About 100 metres I think he was refering to the guys who prefer to look for a taxi who have just dropped people at departures in order to save a couple of hundred Baht. I'm with you...well worth having somebody pre-booked and waitin for your arrival.
  11. It is up to each and every individual wether to ride or not to ride. Is is obvious to me that riding a motorbike carries a huge risk anywhere in Pattaya (I'm never on Sukhumvit Road so dont know if it is a race track). It is a country where driving discipline is almost non existant (overtake inside, overtake outside). I have hit road pot holes in a taxi at 100 KMP and it feels like the bottom has fallen out the car, what would that do to a motorbike? Please dont try to tell me or anybody that it is easy and safe to ride in Pattaya. It is not. Is it easy and safe to drive a car in Pattaya?....No, but it is safer than a bike. The chances of a road traffic accident in that part of the world are far higher than probably anywhere in the Western world. That is a fact. If you havent had an accident in all those years then great and there will be thousands like you but there certainly will be thousands of grieving families as well who have lost loved ones through m/bike accidents. Moreso than anywhere else I have visited.
  12. With all due respect, I reckon this is probably the worst advice ever handed out on this board. Sure it would be great to have the freedom of a motor bike to get around. But lets get one thing straight that freedom in Pattaya comes at a great risk to life and limb. Has anybody ever found a BG who has not been involved in a motorbike accident? We all know,to our great sorrow, of the FLB girl who was killed on a motorbike accident in Pattaya recently. Big bike or little bike you run the same risk. I witnessed the aftermaths of 3 bike accidents all in one evening. There is hardly a day goes buy that you dont see some kind of accident. Not all of them are serious but I think records will show that fatalities from motorbike accidents in Pattaya are way above average. You could be the best and safest driver in the world but there is no accounting for actions of others.
  13. Once you find out about the bike insurance make sure your life insurance hasnt lapsed. The roads around Pattaya are awash with dangers and the number of accidents you see is quite unbelievable. I saw the aftermaths of three in the one night not so long ago. Stampeding buffalos couldnt get me on a motorbike in Pattaya.
  14. Flying Emirates im May...Glasgow-Dubai-Bangkok £482 including taxes. 5 times with Emirates now and never paid more than £500. Good Airline...outward 3 hours in Dubai and on return one hour ten minutes
  15. How much are you paying? and what yime of year you flying?
  16. khrongfa@ego.co. I used them 6 weeks ago and the fare was 1200B. +tolls+airport parking. In total 1400B. As posted before they have never let me down. Also last time I used them I left my phone in the taxi, I thought I had seen the last of it, but the driver went to great lengths to return it to me.
  17. Same here, I've used them 5 times. I have arrived almost an hour early and also very late and on every occassion they have been there waitin on me.
  18. I think you are missing the point. The issue is there may be a few hidden extras when booking the cheap taxis advertised everywhere around Pattaya. Normally I would give a tip for this journey takin the total cost to 1150 B. That is what I paid in this case. So at the end of the day I didnt pay any more or less than expected as the driver had an attitude that was not conduicive to receiving a tip. I have a feeling the 300 b. would end up in his pocket anyway. I cant really imagine him gettin back to his office and sayin " Hey boss, that guy I picked up at the Sabai Inn had two girls with him so I charged him 300 b. There's the money" I for one think the cost we pay for taxis in Thailand is unbelievebly cheap compared to the UK. The issue is I agreed and paid a price of 850B. When the driver appeared the next day he insisted on an additional 300B. I am posting to warn members that if there is more than one pax, then make sure this is made clear before booking and agreeing cost.
  19. My preffered method is by supersonic aircraft or something even a little quicker. But dont know if that is an option. So normally have a pre-booked taxi waitin to collect me. Isnt it just great to turn left into the arrivals hall at Bangkok Airport, approach the awaiting throng then pick out your driver holding a card with your name in bold. It gives me a great feeling of arrival.
  20. I didnt disclose there would be 3 people travelling as i didnt think it relevant. If i call a taxi here in Scotland, wether it be to take me for a few beers to the local or to take me 35 miles to Glasgow Airport, nobody asks the number of passengers nor do I ever think of telling them. All people are interested in is the route and the cost. What was i payin for? A car to take me from Pattaya to Bangkok. The fact that I had two friends with me is not increasing the distance of the journey. All taxi fares are calculated on distance, not on distance + number of people travelling. I was not trying to put one over on the taxi company. I posted to let you guys know what happened,it is capable of happening again and when booking your taxi make sure to advise the number of people travelling and then ask for confirmation of the fare.
  21. Could someone explain this one please. I too have used an 850 B.+ tolls taxi Pattaya to Bangkok. Booked one the day before I was leaving and it turned up at my Hotel on time. I had two TGs with me and giving them a lift to the airport. One comes from Bangkok and lived 10 minutes fron the Airport. The other was going home to her family in Surin and was goin to catch the train from the Airport. When the driver saw there was 3 passengers, he was expecting one, he asked for an additional 300 baht. I queried that saying I was not takin him off the original agreed taxi route(my Hotel to Bangkok Airport). He insisted I had only paid for one Passenger and that I would need to pay an additional 150 B. each for the girls. It was about 6am and I didnt have the energy nor inclination to stand my ground and refuse the extra payment, but I was not best pleased. Is this common practice? I am sure I was conned. Guess how much of a tip my non gust friendly taxi driver received at the Airport. Yip, you are right a big fat Zero. Beware if there is more than one passenger be sure to point this out on booking before agreeing your price.
  22. Having walked this route on numerous occasions along Beach Road, I would say, striding out, it takes about 15 minutes. So, somewhere in the region of maybe 1.5 Kms give or take a little.
  23. I stayed in the City Beach Hotel last September. Paid 1600 B. per night, includes breakfast. No problems when taking girls back. It is a decent hotel. If you havent been to Hua Hin before dont be expecting another Pattaya. There is a bar scene but restricted to one area and maybe no more than 50/60 bars. There are no Go-Go bars. It is a nice place and ok if you are taking a lady with you. I intended spending 6 days there but missed the buzz of Pattaya so returned after 3 days.
  24. I think you will find that there are dedicated short time rooms that are not available for rent. I am a great fan of the Welkom Inn but only ever stayed there once. I found the rooms very basic, small and a wee bit musty. In my opinion the Sabai Inn, right next to the Welkom, is far superior and at a low season rate of 700b. for a standard room is a much better option. I still, almost daily, frequent the Welkom and take the ladies from there the two minutes to the Sabai
