As I think Mr G may be looking for something more up market . this may help some looking at the mid range My hotel was the Lamai Inn 99 , I was in a bugalow on the beach the view was ace. The rooms was clean but a bit spartan and dateted , the room had good air con and a fridge and TV , (some dont) safe deposit box at reception , which shuts up shop at 9 pm till 7 am , they have a nice pool and you are just a walk away from the town. they have a small restrant on the beach front . and the staff where nice , and just let you be . the price in May was 1500 baht , have stayed there twice , Would be nice to here about some more Hotels in Samui , as I know I will be going back Joe

Been to Lamai twice and both times miss the boxing ring , side track'ed . Also enjoyed the Ovada band , And Gabor I know you will vist lamai cabaret. Joe

Agree as there where 5 of you , its a good deal if your on your own , Did not have a long wait . luck of the draw . in fact there was only 5 passengers on the bus . as I have said Lamai gets my vote Joe

You could buy a fan , or adjust the AC setting . Joe

One thing to add , the cheap and easy way to get to you hotel , was by the airport s minibus , Its a set rate per person , to each area of Samui . It work out a better deal than Hotel pickup , in May it was 100 baht to hotels in Chaweng . Joe

The Grand inn or the Majestic , As your GF is not into the bar scene , why do you need to stay on the Sukomvit ? there are hotels in all areas that are in close proximity to the sky train , the Siam area springs to mind , Joe

Agree with Monty. Samui is not Pattaya. but is a nice change , and Lamai is my area of choice , You do need to stay by the main areas as transport is a pain at night . of a day I hired a motorcycle . As this is the open forum, and I know you are just a tourist . I will stop there , and let someone else tell you where the best noodel carts are . Joe

There are many ways of saying no . never been dragged into a shop , have stayed at the Sunshine , cannot say they rip you off as have never made a purchase . Try saying no in a firm manner Joe

It depends what your interpration of Aggressive is, If its some one trying to get you attention , so they have a chance to try and sell you something , Well thats going to happen A no thanks , or just walk on , dont take it to heart . The only Tailor that got to me , was the one in the Royal Asia Hotel , soi 8 Bangkok , He just would not take a no from anyone , I dont think there was a guest in the place, that had not told him to get fucked . If you enjoy BA flights , you will find Quantas just above . I founld them to give good serivce . But have never flown with Eva . Joe

Also a fan of the Dynasty , rooms are clean and new'sh. No in room safe ,but the reception is maned all night , they take Id .s like at the sunshine and phone you to check all is fine . the location is spot on the pool is small ,but you do find you get it to your self alot of the time , Staff are nice and kind to you and your guests . 1200 bt in May would stay again Joe
