My drain won't clear up in one of my condos. I bought a snake at home pro, also used a Draino sort os solution but doesn't work also. The workers in my building can't clear it up. Does anyone have any experience hiring a professional plumber, or have any leads? Thanks.

You exactly right. The taxi stand screwed you out of 300B to the taxi mafia of Pattaya. The Bangkok taxi driver gets 500B cut no matter what you pay at any of the stands and no matter how many people ride. So instead of the taxi stand pocketing 300B he pocketed 600B. He took you for a sucker and he succeeded. Next time just reason with him for a minute. In Pattaya all you have to do is make it clear you are not a sucker (like all the other suckers). :) The taxi driver just wants to get back to Bangkok ASAP to continue his work shift.

Prices for condos really all depends on what your standards are. Everyone has different standards, and then size requirements. Some people are content with a small studio and some are not.

I agree the bad press affects Thailand's tourism as a whole. Especially having that stupid travel agent blab on about if his daughter were to go here.

A car gives you a lot of freedom to explore the area. I agree if you are just going to stay around the center of Pattaya then there is no need for the car, but if you are adventurous then you will love having the car. With the car you can discover beautiful beaches and really see more than the average tourist would. Most hotels will have parking for you.

An exit row in coach should make things a lot more comfortable. At least that's what works for me. I'm 6'3". But the best is a row to yourself. I am always on the lookout for that.

I would take up the offer right away! Jomtien's beach front is really far away from Pattaya in my experience -- just a baht bus. Anyway, I am sure the girl you choose will be completely impressed by the digs.

Pattaya is getting a lot of new apartment blocks going up. Your budget of 25k - 20k should get you a 1 bedroom somewhere without making it too difficult I think. Any preference on locations?

If they don't require a deposit, then why pay it? I don't see what anyone would car to do any harm with your passport and flight info.

I would say it is very rare for a farrang to buy property in Thailand without paying the whole price upfront. Cash purchase is the norm.

Definitely check with her doctor first. I would think some shots might be needed for the elderly, since they have weaker immune systems. I think that is awesome she is coming to Thailand.

The Sawasdee chain is pretty cheap and popular. They have some centrally located spots. Of course, expect a lot of run down rooms. I wouldn't recommend the Apex to anyone, since I've already stayed there before.
