Opening a Thai bank account as of 16/09/2010
bastax33 replied to grs90's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Thanks for this most recent update on costs DP, and to the others that posted their fee experience. Since it may be a few years before I return to LOS doesn't really make sense for me to open an account this trip. -
Opening a Thai bank account as of 16/09/2010

Thanks grs90 for a very informative post. From this thread it sounds like leaving 2,000 baht and logging on occasionally will keep the account active, but there is no mention of fees. In another thread one member indicated they were hit with a 50 baht a month fee, another member 200 baht a year, and yet another poster indicated 100 baht a year fee for their Kasikorn account. http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/index.ph...st&p=809604 I've tried searching their website and could not find any information on fees that was in english (I'm assuming members have opened an E-Savin -
If you don't mind sharing, could you tell us which hotel you chose? Shopping for hotels for a month stay also and PBR is near the top of my list. Was wondering if you found a good hotel that I haven't looked at yet

Thanks Saddic! I'll try the place the next time I'm in town

I'm unable to purchase them either, awhile ago at B of A, their website said it was possible to order the $500 travelers checks but when I went into a branch they said they couldn't do it and had only the $100 in stock.

Might this be the place? Sign is in Thai and I'm unable to read it. http://www.pattayaphotoguide.com/?Rz2RUabtkcrCBDAA Is this the Ninja place? http://www.pattayaphotoguide.com/?Ev2RUnUvkcRCFDAA

I emailed them for a monthly rate on their standard room and received the 27,000 baht price. Email them directly at metropole@lkpattaya.com Thanks for the tip stevoman! I'll shoot them an email and see if they have a room available at that rate. Thanks for the tip Emil. I've stayed at the PBR before and they charge 7 baht a unit. My electric charge was about 2,000 baht a month last time and they'll clean the room daily.

Great video MM, thanks for posting!

Thanks for the info nus01, I do like the LK hotels and will check out the mansion. Thanks spike, I like the Metro Apts too, Dennis is a great host and I always stop by for a few games of pool at the metro. Their price for the superior room is a little above my budget, 23,100 superior room all in. The standard room comes just under my 20k limit but is a little too small for me for a month long stay

Does anyone have any suggestions for hotels or guest houses around the Soi Buakhao or LK Metro area that offer a good monthly rate? 20,000 baht or less (preferably less). Pool is unimportant but would like wifi, comfortable room with helpful staff, daily room cleaning. Looking for June/July time period. At the top of my list is Pattaya Bay Resort, 15,000 baht a month plus utilities and 7% VAT, I'm estimating about 19,000 bhat per month all in. http://pattayabayresort.com/default.aspx Also considering 3som bar on LK Metro, 13,500 baht a month standard room or 16,500 baht Superior ro

There's a 33 bhat per TC fee also. If you were to cash in five $100 USD checks it would cost you 165 Baht. Plus some institutions will charge you to purchase the TC's originally. If you can purchase $500 denominated TC's at no additional cost TC's would be a better way to go in LOS, otherwise the charges come out about the same as using an ATM

Most online banks I've researched in the USA refund ATM fees but usually have a limit. I know that Capital One and HSBC online accounts have an ATM fee refund limit of about $10 a month. The nice thing about Capital One is that they do not charge any additional foreign transaction fees but most other online accounts do. Capital One's online checking account also pays 1% interest right now also.

I've stayed in their standard room using their monthly rate and didn't think it was too small and for the price it's a great deal I would suggest to the OP to book a couple of days and see if he likes the room, if not he could always find a new room while on the ground. I would stay at the PBR again and recommend the place.

I think "her" name is cake. She works at cherry bar and is available. If interested in her you should read Timbon's latest trip report http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=53903

I usually go in May, in the words of a soi 6 gal sitting outside her bar "it's fuckin hot!" The nice thing about going in May are there are no crowds and still plenty of ladies around for fun Here's a shot of the previously mentioned soi 6 girl

Seems like the reason you don't think it's possible someone else broke into your room is because they didn't take your computer also? If so I have another possible scenario. Your description above sounds like you have a full size desktop computer? Putting myself in a thief's shoes, I would leave the computer because it would be to bulky to carry out and get it past reception/security and they may not know the value of your computer. I would be thinking I just scored a wad of cash (100,000 baht) and want to get out and not get caught. Without being able to rule out someone else brea

Frogster, thanks for the information and pics of the D Apartment. I like the look of the place and the price sounds reasonable to me. I'll give them a try the next time I'm in town.

Not sure about the regular/express bus but here's a link to the Bell bus schedule. They will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the Bell bus at the pattaya bus station. Cost is 350 bht and leaves three times a day. 9:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 5:00 pm. http://www.belltravelservice.com/routes_rates.php# I took the regular/express bus years ago and I think one leaves every couple of hours from the pattaya bus station and it costs around 120 bht? If you take the regular/express bus make sure you take the express bus, the non-express bus will stop at small towns along the way an

How did you first discover Thailand?
bastax33 replied to captcraig2's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
The internet is a wonderful thing I am a member of a local mongering board for the San Francisco Bay area called Redbook. The board has an international section where members posted trip reports regarding Thailand, which piqued my interest. I started to search for more info and discovered WSG (world sex guide) and this board. Made my first trip about 10 years ago and haven't regretted it for a second -

In the OP's original post the last line states: Doesn't that mean that LD1 has Thai management? -
Any month is a good month to visit Pattaya. You'll have fun no matter what month you go. That being said I prefer going during the slower months. Generally May - Oct. Not as crowded and one can usually find better deals on hotels. It is usually super hot during those months but I guess that's why there are less people around. Always plenty of girls around to have fun with anytime of year.
