  1. Well, it looks like that poor kid became the 7th victim after all. http://www.pattayadailynews.com/en/2013/11/08/russian-boy-dies-after-being-rescued-from-sinking-ferry/
  2. The kid at 45secs looks dead. Not sure why him and his mum have blood on their faces? Looks like they are doing their best to bring him back here: http://www.naharnet.com/stories/en/104224-at-least-six-dead-as-tourist-ferry-sinks-off-thai-resort
  3. Ok i see it's already posted....http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/topic/62083-pattaya-ferry-sinking/?hl=%2Bkoh+%2Blarn&do=findComment&comment=1048438
  4. It's annoying when you are on beach road/second rd and the baht bus turns down a soi. I would like to ask the driver where he is intending to go but that may be interpreted as a private hire.
  5. I find her bloody annoying. She has no background in investigative journalism. Just plucked from a TV reality show and given her own show where she's sent abroad to sympathise with poor people. People here don't razte her either... http://www.tvguide.co.uk/reviews.asp?title=Thailand:%20Tourism%20and%20the%20Truth%20-%20Stacey%20Dooley%20Investigates&
  6. Can someone learn to drive in Thailand and then come back home (UK) and drive legally?
  7. Ah.....that would make sense. As long as it ir pronounced 'koo ah' and not 'choo ah'. I will have to run it by my friend's Thai wife (though if my pronounciation is out by the smallest amount of pitch it will become utterly nonsensical to her!)
  8. It was definitely pronounced 'koo ah'. Perhaps a play on words or an 'in' joke? There is a 'Nana Nua' (soi 3). I only remembered this because my friend got a taxi to Pattaya and the driver asked if he wanted 'Pattaya Kua'. Now i'd normally assume he misheard 'Pattaya Nua'....but he knows that word and they don't sound alike.
  9. On a previous trip i took a public taxi from Suvarnabhumi to Soi 4 (BKK) and my driver took great delight in telling the other waiting Airport taxi drivers that he was taking to me to Nana 'kua'. What does that mean?
  10. They were filming a new series in November
  11. Had a stroll down Beach road today and noticed that a lot of junk has been washed up on the beach. It covered almost the whole stretch and backed up to the deck chairs. Tons of it. I thought it may have been from Loy Krathong, but it was mostly plastic bottles, bits of wood, shoes, coconuts, and various bits of plastic.
  12. The title of the topic was taken from the video clip, i wouldn't necessarily use the word 'sleaze' in a negative light being a monger myself.
  13. Apologies if this has been posted before. I just noticed it on BBC website Not sure if those outside the UK will need a proxy server to access? It's just a short video about plans to change pattaya's image http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/fast_track/9748412.stm Brief footage inside Alcatraz. I always wonder how they get these shots? Obviously with the permission of management (these are not hidden camera shots and the girls are not nude), but i wonder if they pay?
  14. Ok, i'm inclined to think this was nearer to Bali Hai pier end of walking street if not at that specific location. I took this still from the same 1984 documentary. You can see the more permanent structures near the start of walking street I'm guessing this was nearer the other end of walking street....cut off from view without a panoramic lens. This modern day view shows Bali Hai pier This shot from Bali Hai pier shows how close it is to the hills And a still from the video shows it isn't too far out. Possibly the same spot...but from the beach rather than halfw
  15. Where the Pattaya Beer Garden is? So it was clear beach all the way down behind walking street back then?
  16. Not sure where this pier was located? Is it where Bali Hai is today? Hills to the left seem further away than present day Bali Hai pier. It was filmed in 1984 as part of whickiers world 'Fast boat to China' QE2 documentary
  17. I bet that new ATM/Currency Exchange gets hit a lot with the prices at Galaxy
  18. If getting a Kasikorn account make sure you get the normal K-debit card. They may give you the more expensive K-Max card and you will pay 700 baht (as opposed to 300) for the bonus or having some extra health insurance.
  19. One more Soi Diamond meets walking street 1975 or 76 Credit to Kaiyai

  21. Some photos i found on a German Pattaya forum....hopefully a few that members haven't seen before. I can't vouch for the dates. Hopefully no problem reposting them (as they are not exactly Private content) Pattaya 1960 Pattaya 1965 Pattaya 1972 Pattaya Palace 1972 Pattaya 1975 Jomtien 1975 Pattaya beach 1977 Pattaya Palace 80's Pattaya Beach 1981-82 Lam Morrison 1984 Lam Morrison 2008 Soi Diamond 1985 Soi 2 bars 1986 (later demolished for HoneyPot) Soi 2 1986 Central Pattaya road 1986 Walking Stre
