  1. I was searching some of the comparison sites for reasonable Xmas flights (London to Bkk) with little success. I found that some Airlines had cheaper flights on Xmas day and saw Air China had some for £750 on lastminute.com. Still too much, so i went direct to their website and found some at £520. Later on i checked again and they had flights for £490...some a few days before Xmas day ,some a few days after (return flight 2 weeks later). That's damn good for the Christmas holiday. Only one issue. The stop over is 5hrs in beijing. The return layover is between 6 and 8hrs. Still, it's a £300
  2. I was going to announce that Oman have some nice deals (£656) on 21st Dec flying from Heathrow...but i wouldn't want you rich buggers to catch fleas in economy. Btw....works quiet at the moment. Does anyone need an extra butler?
  3. I missed out there. I cashed £200 in on the baggage collection side. No kasikorn booths on that side. Actually, the Airport rail link is a bit of a hike isn't it? My friends wouldn't have been up for waiting for me (we arrived early evening....so we needed to crack on to make the most of our first night)
  4. Thanks for this information guys. I think there's a token charge for depositing money in a different branch of kasikorn (or is it for a branch in a different area...say Bangkok). I think it was 15baht. Wondering if thats a fixed amount regardless of how much you pay in? Not sure whether to pay cash in on arrival or wait till i get to pattaya. I vaguely remember the exchange booths in Suvarnabhumi give worse rates than downtown bankok? Having said that, i'm arriving relatively late, so that might be my only option?
  5. My kasikorn savings account only gives online statements back as far as 3 months. I'd like to go back a little further (say 8 months). Not sure if i can do this on my next trip in branch...or whether i can get my passbook updated? It hasn't been updated since Nov 2012, so not sure if they would go back that far with all transactions listed?
  6. I should be balls deep, but i decided to spend New Year in England this year. Watching fireworks on TV with a friend, my sister, and 2 nieces. May have to book for LOS new year 2015 about now to get a reasonable deal on flights. Ah....those Fajitas are letting me know that they are ready to evacuate my bowels Goodnight.
  7. Are they stricter in Bangkok? Are we likely to see bars (Nana/Cowboy) closed on the 2nd until midnight...or will they keep them shut all night?
  8. During WW2 there was some hostility in the UK. They were described as being.... 'overpaid, oversexed and over here'. No doubt there was a fair bit of jealousy as British girls were interested in them...both for their obvious differences (looks, accent, manner, dress) and the money they would throw around. Probably worse for the French who had to be liberated and who had a bigger culture clash.
  9. To counter balance this they also look highly upon people with a lot of money. How that money was earned, and what your mongering habits are, become lesser issues.
  10. Well, it looks like that poor kid became the 7th victim after all. http://www.pattayadailynews.com/en/2013/11/08/russian-boy-dies-after-being-rescued-from-sinking-ferry/
  11. The kid at 45secs looks dead. Not sure why him and his mum have blood on their faces? Looks like they are doing their best to bring him back here: http://www.naharnet.com/stories/en/104224-at-least-six-dead-as-tourist-ferry-sinks-off-thai-resort
  12. Ok i see it's already posted....http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/topic/62083-pattaya-ferry-sinking/?hl=%2Bkoh+%2Blarn&do=findComment&comment=1048438
  13. It's annoying when you are on beach road/second rd and the baht bus turns down a soi. I would like to ask the driver where he is intending to go but that may be interpreted as a private hire.
  14. I find her bloody annoying. She has no background in investigative journalism. Just plucked from a TV reality show and given her own show where she's sent abroad to sympathise with poor people. People here don't razte her either... http://www.tvguide.co.uk/reviews.asp?title=Thailand:%20Tourism%20and%20the%20Truth%20-%20Stacey%20Dooley%20Investigates&
  15. Can someone learn to drive in Thailand and then come back home (UK) and drive legally?
  16. Ah.....that would make sense. As long as it ir pronounced 'koo ah' and not 'choo ah'. I will have to run it by my friend's Thai wife (though if my pronounciation is out by the smallest amount of pitch it will become utterly nonsensical to her!)
  17. It was definitely pronounced 'koo ah'. Perhaps a play on words or an 'in' joke? There is a 'Nana Nua' (soi 3). I only remembered this because my friend got a taxi to Pattaya and the driver asked if he wanted 'Pattaya Kua'. Now i'd normally assume he misheard 'Pattaya Nua'....but he knows that word and they don't sound alike.
  18. On a previous trip i took a public taxi from Suvarnabhumi to Soi 4 (BKK) and my driver took great delight in telling the other waiting Airport taxi drivers that he was taking to me to Nana 'kua'. What does that mean?
  19. They were filming a new series in November
  20. Had a stroll down Beach road today and noticed that a lot of junk has been washed up on the beach. It covered almost the whole stretch and backed up to the deck chairs. Tons of it. I thought it may have been from Loy Krathong, but it was mostly plastic bottles, bits of wood, shoes, coconuts, and various bits of plastic.
