Last trip I stayed at the Residence Garden and it was great but, for my trip in November I want to conserve a bit on the dollars as I would really like to return in January and if I spend too much in November it might cause me to postpone a return that quick.

After reading all the reviews - and I do mean all of the reviews in the hotel section - I decided that, for a basic room with A/C, Cable TV, Fridge and a pool in a reasonable location, the Apex would be a good deal.

Am I being too frugal? I could afford more but don't know that I really need anything more.

Any old hands care to comment?

I've stayed there a couple times and it's VERY basic. If that's all ya want, you'll be happy there. The buffets are good and the pool decent.

My other beef is they don't take credit cards. Gotta keep ponying up cash every few days to keep the roof over my head. Also, they charge a deposit for the in-room safe and (sometimes) forget to refund it when you check out unless you ask for it.

Give it a try. If you don't like it, there's only a thousand other hotels to sample.

For a couple hundred baht more, you can stay in one of the Flipper's or Eastiny on Soi 7 or 8. Or the Welcome Inn on 2nd road. Stayed in Apex one night and didn't like it . Small, dirty and tricky deposit for the room safe box key.

Just MHO but I wouldn't stay there again.

Cheers

Well, I stayed there for 2 nights 2 years ago and of course I would never return. The room was small, the carpet was smelling bad and had millions of black spots in it, the air condition was noisy and you couldn't control the temperature. You had to pay to get a key for the safe (refundable). Service was OK and the buffet was good too and cheap (but you can go there and eat whether you are a staying in the hotel or not). The pool was nice too. IMHO you can find better hotels with that money if you look only for the basics. I wouldn't reccomend APEX to anyone regardless his budget

Like previous posters I was less than impressed with my one stay at the Apex. The room I had was small and cramped, and this big heavy wardrobe door was literally hanging off just one wobbly hinge. Pointed it out to someone, and she just looked blank at me, as if she didn't understand what the problem was. :beer

Just around the corner in Soi Honey you will find Intown Holiday, same price, better rooms, more quiet (always ask for rooms to the back). Swimming pool on the roof, fridge with mini bar at reasonable prices. I paid 500 in April, 450 in July, they quoted 500 for October. Disadvantage: Breakfast not worth the 80 Baht they ask for, but breakfast is unbeatable at Apex (95 for the Buffet) anyway and it is only a 300m walk from Intown to Apex. So, no problem, or?

Intown Holiday Hotel

506/159 Pattaya 2 Road

From experience.....the Apex "sucks". Management will try to rip you off at any and every opportunity. The ONLY good thing good about the Apex is the buffet, but it's not as good as Diana Inn, which has an A/C restaurant, right down the street, on 2nd rd... Their rooms are filthy, lacking in any kind of maintenance and the employees are rude and insulting.....ErnieK

I stayed at the Apex for a few days last year. I assure you the extra 200 baht to stay at for example the Eastiny Place Soi 8 is very much money well spent compared with the 500 baht for the Apex Room. You can of course eat in the restaurant whereever you stay.

I have stayed at the Apex several times. There is not doubt that it I could find a place for the same price that was nicer I would go there. I agree the staff is rude at times, but they seem very short staffed and under lots of stress. For the most part it was fine for my purposes. I would definatly get a room with the tile floor. Lets face it carpet and the tropics is a bad mix. Also the breakfast buffet is great. You do get what you pay for and all and all I will stay there again, all the while looking for a better place for the same price. Oh by the way one thing they do have thats nice is parking for your car or scooter. Just go down the ally and honk and a guy will open a gate and let you in.

Have to agree with Ting Tong on this

The Bay Breeze just around the corner is so much better for the same price as the Apex

Worn carpets but rooms are nice and great friendly staff and management

No joiner fee take as many BG as you want :banghead

Last time I Had a Junior suite at 800 baht lovely big room

Great coffee shop on ground floor

apex is for the down and desperate (thats me). but it really is a depressing shit hole. Last month i stayed briefly at the eastiny inn but checked out due to excessive noise. ended up being overcharged by them and any record they had of my booking for xmas was non existant. These days i prefer to pay a little more for something decent and cut back elsewhere if necesary. I once saw the rooms in The pattaya Queen hotel on central road...now thats depressing. no wonder guys jump out the window.
