Where do you buy YOUR tickets from ??

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

New to the site and first time poster have a General question for you. Looking through the airline deals I've gotten plenty of recommendations for carriers and it appears that Eva is a great airline to fly with good prices.

However I've checked the website for costs and a few other sellers and there's a lot of of variation in prices. For those that fly that airline which site tends to have the best deal for purchasing tickets.

Looking forward to my first trip, can't wait.

Try china airlines website.

Any asain ailine with give you a price via online. Also try looking in your local newspaper under the travel section. The bucket shops somwtimes have better prices than the airlines.

If your gonna go for either xmas or the new year, book early, both flight & hotel.

Any other time of the year find a cheap flight and book your hotel online.

good luck

If your flying alot during a calender year you could be better off if you stick with one airline so that you can take advantage of their frequent flyer program,

as extra benefits kick in once you reach a certain level.

Price is subjective to many factors, least of which is where in the US do you plan to fly from. Where in the US are you planning to fly from in order to get to BKK?

I'll be flying out Dallas (or LAX if things work out and I get a cheap ticket there).

I'm pretty sure I'll try to fly EVA air, the reviews seem pretty consistent that it's a great airline to fly. Mostly what I'm looking for is a good discount seller that can get a better price than what's on EVA's website, even though the prices there aren't that bad.

Eva is all I fly. I've found the best prices are on their website. I just returned yesterday and I paid $750 and i left on a Saturday night (9/18). The $750 also included my Vegas connections on America West.

I'm going back to LOS Superbowl Sunday, I found $591 plus tax out of LAX and i'm flying Southwest to LAX. Try to book a Southwest ticket to LAX if you can, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday's Southwest has midweek intrenet specials.

Another thing you could do is try to book a ticket thru SFO, sometimes it is cheaper. You could also call Eva at 1-800-695-1188 but bookig online is usually cheaper.

good luck

cheers

Forever,

Eva is a good bet. If you want to check out other possible deals here is how I do it. I am a member of travelocity. (It’s free, don't bother to upgrade to a paid membership) I log in. Search for trips using flexible departure dates. I pick the months or 2-month period I want to fly. Select it to search for only one airline. Usually united as I fly out of San Francisco. I would suggest American for you since you will be out of Dallas. Using the fare prices on travelocity I search departure dates to find what days cheap fares are available. When I have acceptable days I write them down. I then log out and log on to the airlines web page. Search for fares the days when travelocity indicated low fares were available. The airlines web page always has fares either the same price as travelocity or usually lower with a direct purchase. Using this method I have gotten fares from San Francisco to Bangkok for as low as $525. Usual price is around $750 or $800. BTW those are with all taxes included and 1000 bonus miles for booking on the website.

I have bought tickets through brokers, travelocity, skyauction, and priceline. I have tried to use expedia, hotwire site59 and others but the best price has almost always been using the method above. Usually all the airlines have cheap fares available. Finding what days the still have them for sale can be the hard part. Using the travelocity method identifies the day when loads are still low and usually the airline websites will have prices that are not advertised anywhere else. The airline are using consolidators less and less and using the websites to sell inventory at discount prices. Good Luck when are you traveling?

Okay i take it back.

I tried out my fav method using american out of DFW to bkk. American's website will not give a price of less than $1000 even when travelocity is selling tickets for 798 with all taxes for the same days. I got right up to the buy my ticket on travelocity. But the good trip from dfw is using travelocity. It will route you on AA direct flight from DFW to Tokyo, there on thai to BKK. Leave dfw 10 AM arrice BKK 10 pm next day. No suffling around in the US. But AA has got DFW locked up so ther is no easy way out of DFW without either using AA or routing to some other american city before departing. For DFW maybe a consolidator would be a good idea. :beer :P

Forever,

You can book tickets on EVA's website for trips to/from Dallas. They will route you on AA or Continental out of DFW or Love to either LAX or SFO. I did a search and they come up with Evergreen Deluxe tickets at $990. You'll have to fly coach to LAX or SFO, but it's not that long of a flight.

Another thing you may want to try is looking at flying Southwest to LAX. You'll have to price Dallas-LAX with them, then price EVA at their website. If you book far enough in advance, I believe a trip is possible for $925-950.

Cowboy,

Your method sounds like a pretty good one, except that for carriers like Cathay Pacific and Singapore, I don't think the carrier's web site can beat the fares posted at Orbitz and Travelocity in some cases. Perhaps this only applies to business class, which I was looking at. You would think that in most all cases the carrier would offer the lowest fares on their own web site. Thanks for the information!

I don't know. i have tried Orbitz several times. It has never been even close to competetive. Maybe becuase i am flying from SFO and United is very competetive from SFO and ORD.

Flying from Dallas travelocity had the best rates. I think it would be a toss up to me. A direct flight from DFW to TKY with an econ window seat. Or flying SWA to LAX to catch EVA in delux to Tapei. The SWA to Lax would require you to leave at like 18:00 on a wed to catch a thur 01:30 flight at LAX on EVA that arrives BKK at 11:30 on friday. The AA flight would leave DFW at 10:00 WED and arrive BKK 2030 thursday. and cost maybe $200- 300 less than SWA&EVA.

 B)

If you get a chance to fly Eva do it, you won't be disappointed it's a great airline. They have great arrival times, decent priced and cute flight attendants. :o If you have to fly SWA, book online Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, they have midweek specials.

SWA flies into LAX but not SFO, they fly into Oakland.

good luck

cheers

I get mine mostly from travelocity. I've tried finding the same low fares on the airlines websites but it has never worked for me. I talked to a rep on the phone and she said travelocity's are lower because the airline sells those seats to them to sell at whatever price they want. I'd like to book from the airlines directly, but the price has never been as good unless it's an advertised sale such as Northwest's fall sale to asia or their cash and miles offers.

Flying out of Indianapolis, Orbitz usually yields the best deals for me.

I always check Expedia & Travelocity too though.

Last trip was my first time on EVA. Very nice.

Only thing to be careful about is economy class restricts your carryon bags to 7 Kg.

That isn't much.

I did not know this and mine weighed 13 Kg. They gave me some flap, but ultimately let it go.

They actually weighed my carry-ons in LAX!! That was a first for me.

Coming back, in Don Muang airport, they did not weigh my carry-on bags.

Go figure.

For all of you who want to check availability in various classes, here's another tool you can use:

http://flyaow.com/classamex.htm

You need to know the fare codes. J and/or C is business, Y is full fare economy and they go down from there. This tool only has one digit per fare class so you will never seee more than 9 seats available in each class but if you see 9 or close to that you know there's seats available.

Sometimes if you use travelocity or another similar booking engine if youclick on the details or conditions of a price offered you will get the booking class there. Once you know it for specific airlines you can use this to check availability for your preferred dates quickly.

Hope this is useful for some of you.

I always look up prices on the internet and then call my travel agent and she has always been able to meet the prices. It costs and extra $20 0r $25 to go thru the agent, but the extra work that is done for me is worth it. I usually fly NW or United from Minneapolis to SFO and the EVA to BKK. I have flown out of Seattle twice on EVA and both times have missed the connection. My holiday dates are are pretty fixed, i.e. I want to go over a holiday in order to get an extra day off, so I don't have the luxury of having a flexible schedule. I like EVA departure time from the west coast due the fact that there are many flight daily from Minneapolis, I can leave at 18:00, I can work the whole day and not lose the vacation day.

I have flown out of Seattle twice on EVA and both times have missed the connection.

Nothing pisses me off more than sitting in TPE and waiting for EVA to see if the SEA flight is gonna make it on time. I think those delays are usually on the NYC part of the trip, though. 2guns

Wow, everyone seems to have their own personal ways of finding their tickets but overall I guess it starts with hit Travelocity to get the best days/rates and then on to your individual preferred carriers for a bit of haggling.

Never been happy with SWA but if it'll get me to the airport quick and easy for my flights then it'll have to do. (It's only a 3 hour flight to LAX, I can take it)

If anyone is gonna be in town at the end of January let me know, first drinks on me. :grin

(Still trying to pick the exact dates but last part of january is definately a part of it)

Forever,

I've noticed that if you stay with one airline on your trip the fare from your home airpot to either SFO or LAX is considerably cheaper than if you bought it seperate. As an example when I see an advertised fare from SFO to BKK it might be $650, when I tell the travel agent that I wish to fly out of Sacramento to SFO the price increases about $30. If I were to purchase a seperate R/T ticket from Sacramento to SFO, they want about $160.

I've seen that as well.

Can't hurt to try and save a little more to spend when I get there ?
