dave,

Yesterday I booked MAN-BKK with Qatar through their reservations at GBP 348 + tax for travel 3-21 March. No credit card charges or add-ons. Business class upgrade for the whole trip was 80,000 miles.

Tom

You are now spending more time in LOS than you are in the UK :P

West East also have Eva promotions £520+ Evergreen, must be 348 travelling together

FWIW The Thai Airways deals seem very good, I think you need to book before the end of February.

strange, I have just booked with West East Travel for flight with Thai on 8th March - 27th March. It cost me £488 incl. tax. That was the cheapest fare I found for this period anywhere.

West East travel have horrendous customer services, I have just been on hold for the last 30 minutes and still no answer, just a recording telling me I was still in a queue. I started at position 6 at 14:58 and by 15:30 I was still at position 6! argggh.

Does anyone know any good deals from Manchester flying out 20th July till round about 10 th August.

Cheers people.

Very interested in that fare you quote Qatar Air £348 + tax. About £400 ?

Do I understand that you got this by telephoning them direct ? Their manchester number for reservations is stated as 0161-435-6058 on their site.

I will try and sort my trip out in the next couple of days.

Thanks

Dave,

Now I always book with Qatar direct.

I normally travel in biz class and the prices are typically 10-15% cheaper than those prices quoted by the main agents. The savings effectively pay my hotel costs in Pattaya.

The other advantage is that where a flight appears full, they will request the main office in Doha to release a seat which has, in both cases I have been waitlisted, happened within 24 hours.

Due to their schedule they are probably not the first choice for a "once a year" traveller (more flexibility with Emirates, Singapore and Malaysian) but their frequent flyer set-up makes them difficult to beat for more regular travellers.

Their reservations office is located on Styal Road, just outside the airport, but I believe they are moving into the city centre in the next couple of months.

Oh, and they have some real cute stewardesses .............

I've just been quoted: Manchester > Bangkok

Out Thursday 3 March Back Sunday 20 March

1. With Thai Air via Heathrow £456 inc taxes etc Westeast Travel

2. Emirates via Dubai £518 inc taxes etc Airline Network

Have book Emirates. Had good experience with them in the past. The break half way through the flight suits me better than the long London > Bangkok leg.

Tom: Sounds like we are in town at the same time. I'm with George (A Pattaya Newbie). Are you staying at the Sabai Inn ? - we intend to make a reservation there.

Very much agree with Tom on Qatar from MAN. My fourth trip coming up on 31 Jan for £428 inc taxes. Have found them to be just as good as Emirates IMHO. Have shopped around on the net in the past and prices go up and down like a whores drawers so it pays to be flexible and quick off the mark. Generally book about three weeks in advance. May try and book at their Manchester office next time.

Question for Tom: Qatar seem a bit tardy in crediting my Qmiles when I check in and I am missing several trips, especially return from BKK. Needless to say I no longer have the boarding card or booking refs for the flights concerned. Is it worth filling in the form on the Qmiles website with details of the flights (all within 6 months) with a covering grovelling letter!! My name should be on their computr somewhere, I would have thought. Thanks for any advice.

Dave

Dave,

I arrive in BKK on Fri evening (4 Mar) and am staying 2 nights in BKK at the JW Marriot before heading down to Pattaya on the 6th (Sun) and will stay there for two weeks before heading back to BKK.

I have two mates from MAN arriving on the 7th and they want to stay at the Sabai Inn but I want to get a suite somewhere. The compromise is that we will book the Inn on the proviso that we will move to the Sabai Resort if it is up and running by then (and the prices are OK).

If you want to hook up at the Sabai Inn, just ask for Tom (Room 201).

Tom - Regarding the Sabai Inn. How did you make your reservation ?. I have checked their web-site and see that there is a form to complete with credit card etc. Also the site mentions a "Hot Deal" for which the rate quoted for a "double room" (what does that mean - aren't all rooms doubles ?) is 1120 including American Breakfast. Valuing the breakfast at say 120 baht the room price is 1000, although I'm sure we will not want to have breakfast there every day. I'm not so sure this price is "Hot".

I'm a little reluctant to quote my credit card in this way. In the past I've made reservations in Pattaya without the need for this.

Tom for this valuable advice and for help in the past and also your informative and entertaining posts on this site I would be delighted to buy to a drink or two if we meet up in March.

Thanks Dave.

Sabai Inn rates for the upcoming period...

Standard room from April 18 to April 30 is 900Bht. And from May 01 to May 07 is 800Bht.

Superior room from April 18 to April 30 is 1050Bht. And from May 01 to May 07 is 950Bht.

but you need to book direct with the hotel not through an intermediary.
