Try the diamond riverside hotel-- http://www.ash-hotel.com/diamondriverside.htm Its ok about a 2 minute walk to nite market.

Or try the Porng Ping tower-- http://www.ash-hotel.com/pornpingtower.htm I think this is the hotel with a good disco in it but not sure.

Also if you get a chance right by the diamond riverside hotel is a restaurant called the Antique House. Some of the best food in chiang mai. Serves authentic northern style dishes.

I think the Chiang Mai Plaza is a great value for the money. Get a Deluxe Room. Last time in CM I splurged and stayed at Tamarind Village. The place is very cute, the staff nice, but we got some of those bitch looks from Western House Frau when they saw my TG with me.

I have stayed at the Imperial Mai Ping on my last three visits and have booked it again for next year . Just a few minutes to the night market by Tuk Tuk cost around fifty Baht. :nod

I will be spending 4 nights in Chiang Mai with "a friend" in late February. It is the week of the 1st leg 2nd round Champions League games. I am just wondering if any one has noticed if any of the hotels mentioned have ESPN, and other sports channels to view these matches. Presumably there are bars in town where you can watch the football if the hotels do not have the required channels. :chogdee2

Try the princess hotel. You walk out the front door and you are in the middle of the night market. I stayed there about 4 years ago. A pretty nice place with a decent pool. The are part of the dusit group of hotel. I think the hotel is Princess hotel chajng mai. You can book online and get instant confirmation. I have alwasy gotten great service at dusit and princess hotels. 2guns

The Porn Ping Tower is an excellent Hotel in the Night Bazaar area, a bit of a walk to the action on Loi Kroh but if you book a double (same price as a single), there is no problem with bringing ladies back to the room. Room service is first rate.

TV is very limited in most hotels in Chiang Mai. However there are several English and Irish Pubs that have all the UK important games. We Americans, however, are much more limited in finding our games live.

The Star Hotel is also close to the action but I would recommend avoiding this place. It is sadly in need of renovation.

The Empress is a very nice hotel, but a bit of a hike to the Night Market. I have stayed there twice. I recomment the Porn Ping Hotel have stayed there twice also and enjoyed it very much. And it is right next to the market. Just go out the front door, turn left and walk through the parking lot.....and you are there.

Empress is a nice hotel but around the 2000 rate. Totally GF and room TVs have some sport.

Always Tuk Tuks 50 yards from hotel, 40 baht to night bazaar.

Porn Ping is the place for night time action with Hot Shots and Bubbles.

Plenty of bars showing sport.

The only fault I have with Chiang Mai is that it is not on the coast, mai pen rai :banghead

We stayed at Yaang Come village, a new hotel that's around the corner from the Night Market, and really liked it. We had special rates since it was very new so I can't quote prices now.

Checkout the Downtown Hotel, 2 mins from the heart of nightmarket. Good rooms all amenities, laundry, resteraunt, car service etc, fair price i think 850 baht standard. gf and discreet staff.

I stayed in a place called the Downtown Inn. Cost was around 800 a night with breakfast. Booked it through one of those small travel agencies in Pattaya so you might do better dealing with them direct. Very close to the night market. email: downtown@loxinfo.co.th

Don't forget the Ra-ming Lodge on Loi Kroh...

Agree here, the Ramming Lodge/hotel is an excellent choice(place is very new and clean) and within 200m from the bar action.
