Eva's new 777-300

Recommended Posts

I did the trip in Premium Laurel class last month.

The video was fine, having a 10.5" touch screen with a choice of about 20 movies which you could play/fast forward/rewind as you wish, as well as all the usual stuff. It had a few computer games on it as well.

Didn't really check out the music but the stuff on offer looked pretty average.

The seats were pretty good, with a 61" pitch and a 170 degree recline. The food wasn't that great but it does come on bone china plates, and was still a lot better than the plastic tray full of reconstituted crap that they throw in your lap in cattle class.

I did have a quick glance into Elite Class, and it does look better than the old Evergreen Deluxe. The seats look better and the video screens are definitely bigger. Probably still the best value for money.

Im flying January in evergreen deluxe or elite now, Id like to know what its like also

I haven't flown Elite Class, but I've people like the B744 Evergreen Deluxe better. The complaints I've most seen are: 1) pitch is closer to 35" vs. the 38" stated, 2) seats are narrower, and 3) feels more cramped.

I have only flown business on Korean and it was a upgrade but very very nice. I always fly in the cheap seats and have aside from JAL which IMO is shit they are much the same and I have used a lot of different airlines. :banghead

I'm flying Elite class on the 2nd Nov I'll report back. My bro has just returned having flown economy on the B777, he said economy was quite comfortable with reasonable seat pitch but the seats were very narrow. He told me Elite was full but he had vacant seats next to him in economy.

During the SARS scare I flew, B747 Evergreen, the plane was nearly empty & I would have been better off in economy as I could have lifted the armrests and spread out, you cant do this in Evergreen the armrests are fixed.

On aviation boards I've heard that the new B777 elite class seats are much narrower and have less pitch than on the 747.

We had a couple of clients on EVA Elite last month. They were very complimentary about the seating - both guys are over 6 foot. Not sure about the comparison with the 747's - I will be flying out again next week so I will check this out.

As someone who puts seat width / pitch above IFE i was a big fan of Business c;lass on EVA's 747's.

I've only seen pictures but both the Elite and Premium Laurel seats definately seem narrower than before.

Might have to give China Air another go

The Premium Laurel seats are just fine. The only possible drawback is the seat is not a complete "lay flat". It lays at a slight angle and you may slide downward as you sleep.

I sat in the Elite seat ever so briefly on my first B773ER leg and I didn't notice much. Then again, 2-3 minutes isn't 12 hours! :finger

Hi,

Flew out on the 777-300ER on 18 Sept. from London.

On arrival at the airport I asked about upgrading to Elite class, The lady at the desk advised me to stay where I was because the seating is 3-3-3 and she had put me in the middle row with 2 empty seats beside me. First time i've encounted this.

I am pleased though it saved me money. Also there were at least another 7 people in the same situation. I was not impressed with elite class and did not think it would be worth upgrading, the seats are the same layout 3-3-3 and a foot rest which comes up like a reclining chair, prem. laural seem to be O.K. but out of my price range.

The seats in ecom. were O.K., i'm 15stone and 5ft. 6in. and was comify in them. The plane was great but the service and food was the worst i have ever met. The food was the same in elite, I talked to 1 of the blokes who travelled in elite while waiting to go through immagration and he said the same about food and service.

I've got to take pills so i press the button for the attendant, after about 20mins I went to the rear to ask for a glass of water.

The seats all have screens with videos, games etc. There are no outside cameras like most of the airlines have and there are no cold air blowers. I only travelled with EVA because they did the cheapest 12 months open return I could find but will think twice next time.

Cheers Doug.

Flew LHR to BKK yesterday in Elite. Not impressed. OK, so I'm a fat bastard but I expected more room in an "Elite" seat. The width was tight, not uncomfortable, just not comfortable if you know what I mean. Beacuse the trays are stored in the armrests I couldn't use mine - it wouldn't open past my gut. Also, the armrests don't fold down so even if you have no one next to you, you can't spread out. Legroom fine for length but a 8" wide box was clamped aroind the leg of the seat in front, which was a nuisance. I was in 21A but I think that box is common to all the window seats (looks like it carries the electrics for both seats).

Food OK, not anything special but OK.

The TV was OK once you figured the controls out - when it worked. I couldnt get the map thingy up at all, just an hourglass. The lady next to me had it working but lost everything 2/3 way through the flight (may have been her fault).

My seat and the one next to me hadn't been cleaned at LHR, there WERE fresh pillows and blankets, but that was it. There was still rubbish from the last occupant and no headphones (took 15 minutes for them to get some (electronics/women/  ).

When I pressed the "call" button (for headphones) they took a good 5 minutes to respond - just as well I wasn't unwell!

Unless I manage to lose more weight (40Kg gone this year!) I won't book this class again. If you do book Elite, I recommend row 20 - bulkhead in front, but a long way in front, TV in armrest, tray in other armrest.

Oh, and baggage; it's 25Kg on Elite (20 on economy) but they don't charge for up to 5Kg over. However, if they do charge, they charge for all over wight, even the 5Kg.

Although I am in Premium next week I may have to take my tape measure to check out the Elite seat pitch.

I will not be going PL again for a while and if the Elite is not too good I will book a seat in Cattle and hope for the best come February.

I flew on the LHR-BKK flight on Wednesday 2nd Nov OK the elite seats are probably better than the old evergreen seats, the entertainment system is also better but of no interest to me. The changes mean (for me anyway) Elite class on the B777 compares bery badly with the old Evergreen class on the B744. I will enlarge on this when back in the UK I don't like wasting time on the enternot while in Thailand.

Be warned-Eva's seats in economy are seriously compromised compared to the previous 747.

If you're tall do be aware that 3 of the 4 aisle seats have now got electronic boxes under the seat in front.

There is no where to put your legs but straight out into the aisle. No sleep for certain.

Secondly the designer of the new seats needs shooting !!

Upon trying to recline the seat the bottom section moves forward whilst the back reclines, ensuring you cant recline more than a couple of inches before your knees whack into the seat in front.

To top it all they have introduced thick footrests which reduce the seat pitch by another 2 inches.Unbelievable.

Reading a post on this thread mentions also that elite class have the same problem with electronic boxes under the seats.Eva obviously wanted to update the fleet, but if it aint broke dont fix it !!

:banghead :banghead :banghead  :banghead
