Hi everyone,I will be a newbie in LOS in Nov, been reading up on post but havent seen too many recommendations for places from 400-500b range during the high season (I will be in Thailand mid Nov-=and saw almost everything double in price during this time). I am on a budget since its my 1st time in LOS and wish to see as much as possible, but wish to save the money for the truly important "fun stuff"-

Only require place to be clean, private bathrooms(ex. not the dorm style shared toilets), a/c if offered, and guest friendly (and close to action if possible).

Note: I left this as an open forum and not limited to just Pattaya.

Since I Will also be visiting Bangkok, Puket and Chiang Mai

so any recommendations for any of the above places will be greatly appreciated also.

This will be my first"scouting run" so if all goes well here in LOS, I'll be back.

Thanks for the help.

PT

Hi

Think the best idea is to leave your luggage somewhere, and walk around to find places. Plenty of places for 4-500 baht that will be ok. I stayed in a place on 2nd Rd Pattaya that was only 300 when my lady didn't want to come back to my hotel. It had all amenities mentioned.

many of the small bars and restaurants on soi buakauow(and the adjoining sois) have rooms above them that are for rent a walk around will show you the signs that advertise their rooms and I believe for the most part they are reasonable in the cleanliness respect and are also reasonably priced

PS even in the high season they will discount a little for long stays

Never been to Pattaya, so bear with me.

If I had to do the walk-about to find the ideal bargain place to stay, what is your advice as to where to begin?--Pattaya is not a big place but its not small either so I could probably spend hours walking down the wrong streets. Also bear in mind that I will be arriving in Pattaya around 7pm (when its started to get dark) so appreciate what is best starting point for best outcome. As I will have some luggage, where is best place to put them as I seek my accommodations?

ex. start at soi1, soi6, walking st et

Also, any info on BKK, Phuket and Chiang Mai also appreciated (budget range of course). I did notice that trying to book a place in Phuket for under 800b-1000b during Nov was nearly impossible

Note: I will not have long stay discounts as I will only be at each cities about 3-4 days at most (like I said--its my 1st time recon mission to LOS-so like to sample the various places)

Cheers and Thanks all.

At the price you are looking at the Apex Hotel is worth considering. I know it gets some bad press but I have stayed there twice (once for 24 days) and never had a problem.

It has a website with all the info you need.

Just book it for a couple of days then if you are not too happy then you can look around for an alternative at your leisure.

Last thing you want is to turn up in Pattaya for the first time, after an ardous journey with no knowledge of where you are going to be sleeping. :eyecrazy

Thanks Bro,

I did do search here and other forums and most bros had suggested not going to Apex--said it had big sign at entrance "must pay joiner fee--I think it was 200-300b. Dont know if this policy was enforced or not but some said not to take the chance. Price for high season + joiner fee= about 900b . If the joiner fee is almost half the cost of a room, then this is not in the budget range for what I had in mind.(the fun stuff I mentioned earlier involves a joiner).

Like I said, all this is just from what others have posted, so if joiner fee policy is not a problem, then I would consider Apex. Let me know

Also saw post recommended Sky Top Lodge (around soi6)=500b and Timberbarbeer (near soi13)=550b

Both seem about same price range

Any feedback as to which is a better accommodation (in terms of size of small room ,quality of small room and location )

Dont know about SKY TOP. I have never seen a sign re Gust Fees. I would be very surprised if there is or ever was. I have stayed close to six weeks at the Apex and probably in that time about 30 ladies have kept me company and not once was i ever challenged re joiner costs. They are also very strict in obtaining ID from your guests and will not return it to them until they have called you to ensure you have had no problems. This I like.

In my experience it is value for money. I have never had a problem. Some will not agree. :D

If you are worried about not getting a room right away and lugging bags with you ,you should get a room for one night only, and when you have put your bags away, you can then go looking for the cheap rooms (if you dont insist on A/C then they can be had for 300baht and less per night)on soi buakaouw this should not take more than a couple of hours leaving you plenty of time to indulge yourself

If you pound the pavement you will find a room but for the time you are looking for it may not be in the 400 Baht range.

I've heard somewhere that the "Miami"  hotel in BKK is a place you can afford and will remember the rest of your life. :nod

Didnt know what was meant by Miami hotel so did a search and what came back was "slum hotel"---not what I had in mind.

One of the requirements was "Need a decent place" , and I dont think slum area fits into this.--but nice try though.

Any other recommendations?

Try the Crystal Palace hotel in naklua pattaya, around 550 baht, big clean rooms,a/c,resturant,small pool.

Bit out of the way but the baht buses go past every few minutes & there are a few bars & go-gos down the road but mostly german-owned.

PT, many of the beer bars have rooms upstairs that are basic -- bed, bog, AC or fan shower -- cheap and close to the action.

Book a joint for the first night, get to Pattaya early and you have two days to find a favorite bar and room upstairs.

No joiner fees at Apex. They would go broke if there were.

Take a night at Apex and then look around the next day. Location is handy for getting everywhere. Soi buakhow is good for cheaper accom.

Thanks for the input on cheap Pattaya places to stay.

I will now consider booking 1 nite at Apex --then wander around a bit to places you guys advised. If still cant find anything worthwhile, will just stay at Apex.

Saweedee Hotel, Soi 10, close to Beach Rd probably has some cheap rooms in the 'old' section for around 500B.

The rooms are not much to look at, but location's excellent!

I read somewhere that Sawadee hotel chains are not guest friendly--dont know if this is true?

Stayed there a few years ago. Had 5 ladies one day. No fees. :o

Bliss Mansion on Soi Diana used to be my choice for cheap hotel, before I bought my own place. Last time I checked rooms were 450B. High season probably would bring it to 500B or so I would guess. Rooms were newish a few years ago.

Apex hotel has two wings, old and new. I only stayed in the old one -- and it is too old I think. New wing might be nice.

Soi Buakhow is where you will find value in the Bt300-500 range. Try Shearers, The Lobby, Sweethearts on Soi Diana (boss is a mate of mine). All around Bt400 or so.

Please let me know if places on Soi Buakhow increase (perhaps double ) their prices during Nov (high season) like most places in Pattaya or are these their year long prices?

Im also assuming these places are guest friendly.

Also, wish to have a/c in room but not sure offered at these prices.

Will appreciate if have Any e-mail or website contacts for advance booking.

Thanks and cheers.

My experience is that Pattaya only gets realy busy over Christmas/New Year.

There is usually plenty of accomodation up to 15 December and from 15 January.
