I returned on a visit to the UK just before my 65th and received a letter from DSS asking me to call at the local office and take ID with me. On arrival I was accosted by a scruffy security guard who appeared to be of Pakistani origin. His manner was aggressive and he asked what I was calling about. I told him to mind his own business and barged past him. At reception I was asked if they could be of help and I replied that I was calling to arrange the repayment of some of the money which I had been systematically robbed of for the past 50 years. They looked puzzled and I explained that I wanted my pension. When I saw somebody, I was asked for my ID (took my passport) and I replied that nobody had asked for that when they took MY money.

I told the DSS to send all mail to my ex-wife's address before I left UK for good. The Revenue know I live here. Best of both worlds. The two agencies do not talk to each other it seems. All was well, annual increases, winter heating allowance, Xmas bonus etc paid straight into my offshore bank account. In April somebody put their tea cup and copy of the Daily Mirror down and noticed that my ex was also receiving winter heating allowance. They told her that two people in the same house cannot both claim and they would reduce her, and my, allowance by half i.e. the allowance would be shared. They also said that they would review her entitlement to Disability Allowance, poor dear has had two strokes, and that maybe she wasn't entitled to a new car every three years. She wrote back and said that I didn't live there and I was using her home as an accomodation address. They immediately stopped payment of my Retirement Pension. I didn't notice until the back end of August.

Only two days ago have I managed to get it re-instated. I received a form asking for a permanent UK address where I was on the voters list. Rats! It seems that I don't get any more annual increases. In retaliation I have told them that if I need expensive medical treatment I shall catch an airplane home, and stay there until I recover. I shall also ensure that when I join the famous Norweigan Blue parrot that Death Benefit is claimed. Furthermore I have submitted a claim so that my Thai wife, legally married and notarised, would receive dosh from the UK Government for the rest of her days. Fuck you Godon Brown.

Doesn't this moron realise that by leaving to enjoy a well earned retirement I am helping to free up the housing market, am not drawing on the resources of the NHS, do not need a bus pass and shorten the Post Office queue on Thursdays? He is supposed to be a Socialist? Not that the Tories, if they ever get back in will rectify the situation. Face it folks. No good writing to your MP 'cos you have not got one. You don't have a vote any more. They'll prevaricate anyway hoping you'll join the Celestial Choir some day soon. You're just like little Noi last night - well. F****d.

BTW If you live in Spain and some other countries you will get annual increases. Crazy or what?

Perhaps one of the UK newspapers will expose the scheme whereby immigrants from the sub-continent (and elsewhere as far as I know) go to see one of their own doctors, get a prescription for top class medicine, collect the goods and then mail the goodies to their relatives back home. Or would that be construed as racist?

The U.K.'s Welfare state was created for the people who needed help, between working down mines, building ships, ploughing fields, manning trawlers, serving in the armed forces etc. In short, those, who, for generations, contributed towards the country's wealth. It is also there, for some to abuse it's generosity.

We planted the seed, fertilised and cared for the tree. Now, others are helping themselves to the fruit, and doing it with our Goverment's blessing.

They say, Government's don't have their own money, it belongs to the people.

That must be why they don't care who get's it. :nod

Funny old world isn't it ?

Yeh, I know they are contributing to the pot, but to be on par with me, pension wise, the new arrivals will have to contribute till about 2045 to catch up.

Because I only worked for 33 years, I'm going to have to pay additional voluntary contributions from next April until I'm 60 or so tio ensure that when I do eventually reach the grand old age of 65 I'll get my the full state pension, albeit until the next increase goes through.

I have no doubt whatsoever, that one of these days they'll bring in a law that says that all those of us who have paid tax and national insurance for years but have chosen to save the government money in health care costs etcx by going abroad to live will be banned from coming back to get free medical attention or else we will be forced to pay through the nose for it.

In the meantime, all those who have only been in the country for 5 minutes will get whatever care they want without ever having to contribute a penny in tax or national insurance. :o

And now they are talking seriously about raising the retirement age to 67.  Wonder when that will kick in?

Actually the details are in the Financial Times here:-

some really good repiies. I am 38 at the moment and have spent the last 22 years slogging my bollocks off in the engineering industry. I Deceide to fuck it and sell up and move out to thailand, and try to have a better life.(Money from sale of house should last me a good few years).I should also be abe to get some sort of employment being an open water scuba instrutor.

The more I read about what the british government are trying to impose the more it makes me sick.

If there is no hope for a 38 year old in the U.k. What hope is there for anybody older? :P

Whats so great about Great Britain?

Whish I was A Paki.

The day I started work a recruiting Chief from the Navy came and asked if I wanted to go into the Navy early as someone had gone sick. Gave my notice in and was in HMS Ganges four days later. Boss was not best pleased!

Top decision i'd say there.

On reflection now at 47 (in 2 days time), wish to hell I'd joined one of the services.

Could have got 20 yrs in, good pension, then gone driving truck to Italy for 10 years (great life for a single guy), then been giving over any time now.

As for Fishermans Friend, think Doreen Lofthouse has enough millions banked without you helping her make any more.

Old farmer friend of mine used to say: "If tha banna do summat, do it fo' th' sen".

Sad to say it looks as if you will be hit Moby. Saw on the news that it will affect those now under the age of 50. That said, it is only a report at present and things will almost certainly change. Keep your fingers crossed....you too LancsLad...

For my part this is about the only thing I can find good about gusting 60!!!!

For LancsLad,,,,,,yes, she made her pile alright. Still remember as a kid going into Lofthouse Chemist to buy some in a brown paper bag for 6d...now a bloody great factory and you can buy them all over the world.

FWIW, although I had some good times in the Navy, and have many memories, there is very much a down side, no family life, broken marriages etc. When I left it was like (I imagine) being released from a prison sentence.

The one thing I did get right was to keep every penny of my pension, neither of the bitches I married got anything - no mean feat in this day and age!
