Hiya everyone,

Great website!

Just wanted some advice on my first trip to Pattaya please.....

I'm looking at staying for 3 weeks and was wondering what the average cost of a hotel would be for this stay? I'm not looking at something expensive. As cheap as possible but decent

I'd like to do such things as visit places such as islands with gorgeous beaches and beautiful surroundings and i'd also like to ride elephants etc - How much do you think this would cost?

Hope to become a regular member on this board and meet alot of great people!

Welcome to the board my friend.I would suggest that you spend a few hours investigating the many excellent subjects contained herein and then post explicit queries on the appropiate sites ie "Newbies".

You will find that almost all of the members here are only to willing to advise you. :eyecrazy :eyecrazy :beer

Yes! And some of the information we'll share might actually be useful! :beer In all seriousness, welcome to the board and to the adventures that lay ahead. Take full advantage of the "Search" function on the site, since there probably isn't a question or topic that hasn't already been covered somewhere. Throw a keyword or two into the search field and let it do the work for you; you're bound to find that most of the questions typical of a newcomer have already been answered. And for those questions that haven't, ask away! :beer

Hey ya nil,

Hotel prices will depend on when you are going and where you are staying. Udon thani, khorat, and chang mai are all a lot cheaper than Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya. Prices are up until about the 15th of January. After that they will drop to normal high season rates with a little bit of play at some of the hotel. You can get a pretty decent palace for about $35 a night. Just stay away from the branded hotels. There are some for $25. You can find cheaper but it become hard to find nice facilities for less than 1000 baht. You would probably want to see the place first. And you can spend $125 and up if you want something really fancy.

To me the real breaking point is 1200 to 1600 baht. In that range you will find a lot of decent hotels. Like the mercure, sandy springs, residence gardens, sabai lodge, areca hotel, and more. There are some okay places like Victoria inn at less than 1000. Flipper is popular with many folks and cost 700-900 baht. (A little ratty for me) But you can easily tell that there is a big difference between it and say the residence gardens. Residence gardens is twice the price and you get twice the quality.

When you go to the higher end hotels Hard Rock, Marriot, Cliff Resort you pay 3500 to 5000 baht. They are definitely nicer than residence garden but at 3 times the price you pay for it. A lot of what the high end hotels have is fancy grounds. But the beds and rooms are only maybe 50% better than a 1300 baht hotel.

Residence gardens, for example, has a nice pool. Dual air conditioners. A separate living room and bedroom. NO grounds to speak of.

Marriot has a fancy garden with lot of water and greenery. It has better beds, a small gym, and nice pool and a great buffet breakfast and most of the time it cost 4000 baht a night.

So if you have a really tight budget you can get by on 700 baht a night for a room. If you can afford it I would say plan on 1600 baht a night and then you should be pretty happy and always in budget. And if money is no object well then there is the new Sheraton for 6000 baht a night after taxes.

BTW that is one thing to remember. Place like residence garden, sandy, etc quote you a price that includes all taxes and service charges. Marriot, Hard Rock and other higher end hotels usually quote you a rate of $80 a night but they will add tax 7% and service 10% to that and then convert it to baht at a rate of say 38 baht to the dollar. Be sure to check the fine print.

Cheers mate hope you have a good time. 2guns

Welcome to the Land of Smiles nilsatis

Hotels: you can find a good one for about 1,000 Baut a night. I stayed at Estiny Residence Hotel on Soi 10 last visit in November - Brand new, Pool (Small), broadband in room, with breakfast for about 1,000 Bt per night.

The beaches here are not the best, as Pattaya dumps raw sewage in their bay, but go over the hill to Jomtiem, and they are pretty good.

As for the Elephant rides, I have done this a couple of times. Once to the sanctuary and once somewhere south of town with gardens, etc.

The best was to the Sanctuary where they take you for a trek for a couple of hours through a river etc. As I remember the cost was about 1000 Baut, but I'm sure that it has gone up. I would advise not to take the complete package that includes the show, as these are pretty touristy and not worth it IMHO.

Pm me if you want the guy that I booked with - Speaks good English and has treated me fairly.

Bill

Nil Satis. Great name fella, me and 2 rednoses are going in 2 weeks and are having a 4 weeks stay, we usually stay around the soi 7 or 8 area, last year we stayed in the Eastiny Seven, was a good hotel and is always a good location if you like it loud and the women plentiful. Staying there again in 2 weeks but only for the 1st 4 nights, gonna look for a walk in price on something a bit more upmarket for the other 3 weeks.

Have a great stay when you come mate.Avoid spending all your time in the Walking st area as there are plenty more bars to see and enjoy.Try North Pattaya too,as i find the girls a little bit better tempered and not jump on you for a drink straight away, and can be a bit busier than soi 7-8.Soi 8 is a huge rip off now,as there has been a refurb and we are all paying for that in the price of drinks.

A few zoos to visit and Nong Nooch well worth it too.
