rwbrwb, i booked direct with nana via email. I have seen the shit rooms and they pale in comparison to the rooms i had. What you should do is check your room before you pay then you can change room or go somewhere else- UP TO YOU!

So, you book your room, arrive, ask to see the room and are shocked to discover that it's a shit-hole - what then?

A busy place like the Nana probably isn't going to have a better, empty room to give you, so, do your storm off into the heat and traffic, dragging your heavy suitcase behind you, to trail around multiple hotels looking for a walk-in rate that isn't completely extortionate?

If the standard of the room is that important to you, read the advice here and book somewhere more consistent. The Nana is a crap shoot, just like mongering in general.

I don't think I'm missing the point. The 2 places I named are a less than 5 minute walk from the Nana. You can experience all the Nana Lobby and Golden Beer Bar and the infamous parking lot has to offer, then make your way to a more civilized room; what's wrong with that?

A Deluxe Room @ 1690 Baht is a very good deal. Clean, 2 sofas, huge bed, desk for your laptop, 2 TV's and a nice bathroom.

Say what you want, but the place is nearly full, a majority of the time.

I'll take a Deluxe Room {1690} over a Suite {2400}

I've stayed at the Nana loads of times, 5 months once, and always had a reasonable room, these reports of crap rooms are a mystery to me.

If you just want a quiet evening maybe you shouldn't stay there, it's for guys eager to get their rocks off multiple times. When you go to the room there'll be half a dozen girls hanging around the lifts giving you the eye ('take me with you'), when you get back at 2am there'll be 200 girls in the carpark looking hopefully at you, and you're across the road from 30+ gogo's.

An experience not to be missed.

Opinion on the Nana Hotel is highly polarized, probably more so than any other hotel that gets mentioned on this board.  Having ploughed through hundreds of comments, I concluded that it all boils down to why you are staying there.

If, as you say, you simply want to get over the jet-lag and recharge your batteries for Pattaya the next day, you would be missing Nana's primary and possibly only virtue: that it is right at the pulsating heart of the action.  It's not quite a question of location as there are better hotels in the immediate area but, rather, the hotel's pivotal role over a long and blissfully sordid history. Fans say that the character of the hotel itself, oozing sex from every brick and frayed curtain, adds to the excitement.  For that unique ingredient, many overlook the variable quality of it's rooms.

Be honest with yourself: are you really going to go straight to bed?

Or is the excitement of arriving in a new country going to put enough gas in your tank to go out and monger?

If the former, get a more comfortable hotel further down Sukhumvit, possibly next to a BTS station so that you can quickly get to the Ekami bus station for the 2hr/120b coach journey to Pattaya - I found it very pleasant and more interesting than a monotonous cab journey.

If the latter, you might as well have the Nana experience - the atmosphere of the place should certainly give you a bit of extra pep.

Just as an aside, on my last trip I spent a few nights in BKK before moving on to the main part of my trip in Pattaya.  The city itself is interesting enough but, frankly, the P4P scene there is pretty crappy compared to Pattaya: the drinks cost more, staff are less friendly, your fellow mongers aren't as cordial, the girls have major attitude, are much more expensive and have little interest in giving you the GFE.

In the gogos, there seems to be an epidemic of girls ordering themselves LDs on your bin, happened to me 3 times over a 4 day period and, each time, getting it fixed took some effort and argument.  In all the time I've spent in Pattaya, that's only happened to me once, in Paris-A-GoGo, and, upon drawing their attention to it, the staff immediately dealt with it.

Pattaya, for all its problems, is miles better; personally, I would give BKK a miss and catch a taxi straight there.

Then again, many of the experienced BKK mongers I met were mystified as to why I would want to spent time in Pattaya, so, hey, its all a question of taste, you might love the city of angels.

Couldn`t agree more! :chogdee2

After complaining about the 1st room they gave me, they gave me a room on the top floor. They were working on some of the rooms, putting in new bathroom fitments and some sort of secondary glazing. It was quite noisy and there was a terrible smell of solvents. The water kept getting switched off. There was maybe about 4 rooms done out of about 16. You can tell the ones that were done as they have new doors. The corridor is a mess and the cleaner sleeps on the floor. My room had new carpet and tiles, but the bathroom hadnt been done.

As everyone keeps saying, you can still visit the bar, disco and parking lot without staying there.

I stayed for three nights last months at the Nana. No it isn't plush but I wouldn't describe it as a shit hole either. Its very old and tired but serves the pupose well for what most of us stay in the Nana area for.

Bottom line is its cheap, clean, excellent location, and breakfast is edable.

You could do a lot worse.

You could do a lot worse.

That's the problem: you could do worse right there in the same hotel.

It's clear from the variety of responses here that the Nana has a mixture of both good and bad rooms, not much way to know which you're going to get.

None of the rooms I was in were clean. The 1st one smelled of dampness, like an old repossed uk property. I dont know how they manage that in such a hot place that is used daily. I think theres a bit of a similar smell in the foyer some days.

I stayed at nana last year and the room had new carpeting was very clean and nice. I find it odd that people call nana a shithole. The flipper hotel in pattaya has smaller rooms with worse air con with peeling paint and worn carpet and people are recommending it all the time. The nana is way better than the flipper.

GREAT BREAKFAST I haven't seen anyone mention it but the nana has a great buffet breakfast. And it is included in the room price. And the coffee/or tea is reasonably decent.

The majestic suites is clearly a better hotel but you pay 100-300 baht more, and it doesn't include anything near what nana has for breakfast. And the majectic has only a few rooms (maybe 40-50)

everyone should stay at nana at least once. If nothing else to see the elevator bandits. :clueless 1luv

I believe that, at this stage, we have established that the quality of rooms in the Nana varies greatly - some are fine, some are shit, booking there is a gamble unless you know which rooms are fine, possibly by getting the room number of someone who was happy with what they got. I gather that their pricier rooms are uniformly good.

Well I will just ask to see the room first, if it is not acceptable than they can give me another one if not Pattay here I come. I will only spend one night in Bangkok as opposed to two nights. :D

I totally agree with this. I have only stayed in the Deluxe rooms and always thought they were a good value, esp when you factor in the great bfast buffet as cowboy mentioned.

I always stay at the Nana for a few nights when i first arrive, just to dive headlong into the fun.

the disco in the hotel is also an extememely target rich environment. But they have really jacked up the entrance fee. The trick to beat that is to get a drink from the bar that is just before the entrance and set up shop on the couches and see the ladies as they walk in. I have grabbed a couple of cuties on their way in and taken them up to the room. By the time we were done playing, it was time to hit the CarPark for round 2 ( or 3 as the case may be)!!

then after a few days I move to hotel like Swiss Grottino or Town Lodge and tell my Thai friends I have just arrived!

One mans bargirl is another one's tilak !!

That has got to be one of best quotes I've heard!!

I've stayed at the nana hotel once & that was one time too many! I've stayed in over 20 hotels/appartments in the last 12 years, each one a cut above the nana hotel!

I stayed there 1 night & complained so much that they moved me twice, Shit rooms, decor, rude reception staff, I felt embarrassed to bring a girl back to the dump!

The buffet lunch is good! The nana disco is good & the parking lot at kick out time is buzzing!!

I stayed at Nana last year during Christmas busy season for 3 nights. I had tried to book online, but they said they were full. I showed up in person and had no problem.

Room was ok. Huge bed, small fridge. Old bathroom with a rotary dial phone, but every thing worked. Hallways had old brown carpet and definitely looks bad, but nothing smelled. The BTS train station is right around the corner so it was convenient. Of course Nana plaza is across the street. The downstairs disco is supposed to be OK, but they wanted 500 baht entry fee, even for people staying in the hotel. I just wasn't interested.

The Dynasty right across the way has free shuttles down to Pattaya for Dynasty hotel guests. So, you might be able to hitch a ride if you stay at Dynasty. I am sure the rooms are a bit better, but probably smaller.

Nana hotel has a fairly good sized parking lot and the hotel lobby is set back. Many girls stand right outside the entrance to the lot, which helps security a bit. Don't need too many unescorted strangers wandering around the lobby.

The hotel resaturant was pretty good. Large selection, reasonable prices.

Front desk people were nice. Lock box behind check in desk. Pool was very small and I didn't even bother with it.

Not if you have a couple of beers with your food. It costs the same as one of the go-go's in the plaza.

I have always booked a delux room and been pleased with it.

The hotel has been a shaghouse shithole since the 80s and is an experience.

I have found the quality of service pretty poor as well as a 'rip em off attitude', but that is Bangkok isn't it?

For a first timer it is an experience, I would say go-for-it.

After a few trips you will probably only ever stay in Bangkok if you have a late flight out, or need a rest on the way in.

yes, well, as you see disagreement abounds. I often stay in the Nana when I jet in. Rooms can vary a litttle but I've never had a really crap one, and generally they are a fair size and everything works that should. I think the renovated swimming pool is pretty nice, and their breakfast buffet is quite acceptable.

And yes it is an experience to stay in what essentially is pretty close to a bordello - on my first visit the first thing the bellboy enquired when putting my bag down was whether i wanred a girl sending up!

But the location is the key - it's right where I want to be on Sukhumvit and on the Skytrain route. Also if you have a car the carpark is a bonus.

In recent years I have stayed there with my wife - which says something I think about it general appropriateness.

Oh and I think I should say that with the odd exception of one or two on the reception desk, that the staff are very nice and helpful.

I stayed there for two nights about a fortnight ago.

It is a shitbox,musty room,ugly decrepit bathroom.

Why would anyone stay there apart from the location and that carpark.

However I found nice pickings were scarce in the carpark as well.

Stay anywhere else but the nana.

I don't understand why people discredit the hotel. If you're habits are anything like mine, you actually "stay" in the room between maybe 2 am and 8 am (with a girl). Even then, the lights are out and you're busy (hopefully). It really is all about location...right across the street from heaven. Oh, and the breakfast is great! My room was clean and the maids were very attentive (100 baht a day goes a long way). The disco downstairs don't hurt either (although I never went there, it was comforting to know I could). I say Nana Hotel rocks!!

It's really up to you some love it some don't. It is all about location and price. I know one in a very good location as well but about 800 THB more at the moment. The only way to truly know is to just try it yourself, though I highly doubt it is a place to take your family. :banana
