adnet,

I bring my laptop most trips. It is a 14 widescreen. It fits in the room safe. So I always get a room with a safe. I know some people talk about how easy it is to break into safes. But it keeps the simple thiefs from being able to walk of with it. So far no problems. I have heard of people that have had cameras etc walk away but in those cases they didn't have them locked up. :D

I've made a couple of trips to Thailand and I have brought my laptop each time. Now granted my laptop is an older model but it does have Windows XP loaded on it and I usually just use it to check my e-mail and resize pictures to e-mail back to the guys at home who could make the trip! Sometimes if I have a room that doesn't have an in room safe I just hide the laptop in the bottom of my 26" suitcase under all my clothen. I haven't had a problem yet! 2guns Knock on wood!!! 2guns If it were a newer laptop with all the bells and whistles I might think twice before deciding on taking it with me on a trip! :allright But then again I guess I'd just take my older laptop! 1luv

I am bringing my laptop with me since years, never had a problem at all. Even with a new (and expensive) one I bought in February. "Survived" both trips I did since then. What I have done was buying a lock so I can fasten the laptop to the bed or something heavy which cannot be moved with a steel wire.

Yes, I've had good luck with the locking cables as well. The one for my computer ran about $35US and as was mentioned, it enables the computer to be secured to some large, heavy and or stationary to ensure it's still in the same place you left it. I too have never had a problem, even before I started bringing the cable.

For a long time, I was on the fence about bringing mine or not -- mostly for the issue of having to lug it through airports, taxis, etc., but since I've begun using VoIP phone service, it's worth the hassles of getting it there and back to be able to make calls I may need to make back to the states or to Europe. Without the convenience of Internet calling, it would probably be a coin flip for me as to brining it or leaving it home.

It has been my expedience that VOIP is not reliable any whee in Thailand, due to the lack of bandwidth. Every time I have tried to use mine, someone that was on the same connection would start downloading some porn or something, and the connection would go south.

i get a little work in to justify lugging around

if yu dont need to work, get a U3 enabled flash drive

mine goes everywhere with me. it's a small one (sony tr3) but works well for what I need to do and fits in any room safe.

i've never had a problem with it, but I tend to be nearly anal about locking everything up when not using it.

friend of mine brings around a big, slightly older laptop, leaves it lying out all the time and hasn't had a problem yet. (he says he doesn't care if it gets stolen at some point, it'd be an excuse to buy a new one)

I suggest bring two retractable cable locks. one for your computer and one to strap your computer bag down. my cable lock has an alarm on it...

I have brought mine with me & did also last year for 3 months in various hotels & never felt worried about leaving it in my room! Although I suppose that it depends on where you are staying!

I can upload pics as I take them & when I need a break from the action it gives me something to do! It won't fit in any safe as it has a 17inch monitor

I have brought my newer laptop on 9 trips, and never had a problem. I don't even lock it up. I take lots of pics, and even bring a portable printer so I can make prints for the bg's. I can't imagine not having it with me.
