When I first went to Thailand I didnt know anything, including Patpong, nana and Pattaya. I thought English had a good reputation of being gentlemen. So as i was in a different country I was doing my best to act like a polite gentlemen to everyone. Little did i know the whole time, i had 100's of shit heads working against me in my battle to try and make english people look good.

 

I get sick and tired of people making our citizens look shite, I am surprised normal thai girls talk to us, after all, we must look like a bunch of drucken, violent whoremongerers.

 

 

its a shame but there are a lot of shitheads form all countrys in Pattaya,and i have drank with most of them? but as an Aussie i find drinking with the poms is always interesting and always a good laugh.see you there soon

I Stay at P J inn 7000 one month . will do your laundry , ,has air con, fridge ,tv shower. room cleaned every day , taxi just out side 7/11 across the road . girlfriendly . nice dog to patt . hair dresser next to hotel to get my wig done. hardwere shop to get your ammo from . O k

had thought about trying the nelson out just to see what staying on soi6 was like but won't now ..

got to get a plug in for residence garden ..

i've stayed in 13 different places all spoken about on the forums and i can only rate 2 of them .

The Vault and of course residence garden

don't really like the road noise in some of the rooms at the vault however the penthouse rooms are awesome . and if your names charlie all the laundy is same day and free of charge !! very clean place as well ..

 

Res Garden though is now like my 2nd home . they always seem to find space for me and i'm in a fantastic 2 bedroom suite (one bedroom door locked as i only wanted 1 bedroom) full kitchen, microvave, oven , kettle and unlike amny of the others i've stayed in the kitchen has utensils !! (surprising how many give you a hob & kettle but no cups or spoons or any in fact any utensils!) not that i use the kitchen for anything other than coffee, just nice to have .. super place .. all for the FLB discount rate.. i think its 1399/night ? imho .. i've not come across a better hotel for even twice the price !! (paid 2800 per night last month at royal twins palace for a suite as res garden was full and it did not compare !)

Well, TWICE that amount will get you a suite at The Vault. As for the Lord Nelson, why anyone would WANT to stay on SOI 6 is beyond me. Yeah, right in the middle of the action, but I don't like to eat where I shit either.

I stayed at the Lord Nelson a couple of weeks ago and I liked the place. It was 700 baht a night which was good value. My room was on the first floor and I could either enter via the bar or via the fire escape stairs on soi 6/1. Tropical Berts was just opposite it on soi 6/1 and served good English food. I used to park my moped on Soi 6/1 and I thought it was a good location. Myself and girls could come and go as I please.

 

There was a security guard located on Soi 6/1 entrance every night. The room was clean. I didn't find it noisy at all - soi 6 completely closes down at about 1am anyway. There was an interesting view from my window as well.

 

For 700 baht the place is a good option. I used to pay 1400 a night at places like the Bella Vista, amongst others, but the rooms at the these cheaper places aren't really much different. I know there is no pool but I get a pass to Tony's Fitness place for 180 baht a day which has better facilities than any hotel. What more do you need than a clean room, TV and DVD, Air Con and Fan, Fridge and some sort of safe deposit box for valuables. Cheap Charlie is the way to go.

 

And they let me check out late at no extra cost. I got my 1000 baht deposit for the safe box back and nothing was stolen from me - I arrived with no coat hangers and I left with none. A few photos of the place follow, the stuff cluttered about is mine, the room was clean and made up when I arrived.

One thing I expect as a cheap Charley is good value for my baht. I expect the down market guesthouse to be clean. I get this and more around the corner at Sky-Top.

I made the horrible mistake of booking a "Deluxe room" at The Lord Nelson. When I checked in I was shown to a small dark room. I said to the girl, "I booked a Deluxe room," the respond was, "Deluxe room. See, DVD player." If that was a "deluxe room" I would hate to one of their regular "superior rooms." They must have used a fish eye lens on their camera to make the rooms look as big as they do in the web site photos.

 

C'mon pal you paid 700 baht. The rooms are good value for that price.

 

The bathroom was so small the toilet was across from the shower and you could, if you so desired, take a shower while sitting on the porcelain throne.

 

My bathroom was ok. There was a plentiful supply of hot water and good water pressure.

 

The room was on the 3rd floor, 2nd to you European types, and at 4AM when two people were talking at normal tones on Soi 6, it seemed like they were standing next to the bed. There might as well have not been any glass in the window frames.

 

I stayed on the first floor which is nearer the street but noise was not a problem. The glass in the windows was no different than any other hotel as far as I could see and hear. Maybe you left the window open? To hear a conversation through a window in the street outside 3 floors below - you must have good hearing.

 

After I had checked out and moved to another hotel I noticed I was missing a couple of small items. A trouser hanger, the kind with the wood "clamps" that hold the trousers by the cuff and a can of air freshener. I went back to The Lord Nelson and the maid was sitting right next to me when I walked up to the bar and asked if I had left anything in the room. I was told I had not. Later when back at the new hotel I made a thorough search and the items were not in my luggage. The next morning I went back again and asked if they had found anything I might have left in the room and, again, I was told, "No." An out and out lie.

Just damned weird. You think the hotel lies because they want to steal a coat hanger and an air freshner from you? Do you think the maid remembers all the crap she throws out when she cleans a room? Or which crap was in which room? C'mon pal, this is unreasonable.

 

Oh, btw, they asked for a 1,000 baht deposit for the key to the lock box downstairs and the girl refused, twice to give me a receipt, telling me they didn't have receipts. I asked a little more strongly the third time and she produced a receipt book and wrote the requested document.

 

I paid the 1000baht deposit for a safe deposit box key, which I presume hotels charge to ensure they get the key back. When I left I gave my key back and they returned my 1000 baht. The fact that you have a key shows you are owed the deposit.

 

I don't mind walking and I don't mind stairs, but the stairs were some of the worst I've seen. Looked like something out of the Winchester Mystery House. The space that should have been used for the width of the steps was, apparently, put into the height of the risers. I had to go up and down the stairs sideways. The fire escape on the back of the building was easier to use.

 

Choose a hotel with a lift. I was fine on the first floor but I have stayed on the 4th floor at the Queen Vic and climbing those stairs was a pain in the arse.

 

I canNot recommend this hotel to anyone and would suggest you only consider it if every other hotel in Pattaya is booked solid.

 

The only positive thing I can say about it was the girls who work the bar during the day seemed very pleasant.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion but in my opinion the above complaints are unreasonable. I have paid considerably more for worst rooms in Pattaya.

It would seem that what one person thinks is a good hotel is as personal a decision as their taste in women. One man's dog is a another man's stunner or one man's junk is another man's treasure, etc., etc., etc.

 

We obviously have very different taste. The Lord Nelson is the worst hotel I've ever personally used, but, as I said, you get what you pay for. I didn't expect much and it was just that, not much.

I've never stayed at the RG but you have to admit it's twice the price of the Lord Nelson and I'd expect it to be way better at that price.

That's why I asked you specific questions about the Lord Nelson. If I were to book a guesthouse and it wasn't clean, I'd leave. It could be offered for free and I wouldn't stay there. I sometimes think guys expectations are way to high considering the price of the room.

No, I live in England. Thailand is the last place I would invest my money and I don't even know who owns the Lord Nelson. I stayed there that's all and thought your review was at odds with my experience.

 

I usually stay at some of the places you mention like The Bella Villa Prima and Sabai Lodge. I decided to give a few cheaper places a go and was pleasantly surprised. Personally, room wise there really ain't that much difference between a 700 baht room and 1400baht room as far as I can see. I have got photos of the more expensive places and they don't look that much different: a bed, a TV etc etc.

 

Just thought I would even things out a bit as I didn't think the place was a dump, I quite liked the place.

Well, the difference is that between night and day. The Residence Garden, for 1,400 THB, offers a one bedroom suite. Each has a large, well furnished living room with a kitchenette, a bathroom with a shower large enough for you and 2 or 3 of your favorite Thai girls, a balcony large enough to use for dining, a electronic safe in the bedroom closet, an entrance way and a few other things I've forgotten. Oh, yes,

an elevator, two swimming pools, a restaurant, room service, and maid service that changes both the bottom and top sheets.

As I said, the best value I've seen in Pattaya.

Who are you?! How dare you use my name! If I wanted to use my name I would do so. That decision is not yours. I tried to send you a PM before writing this post, but you are such a COWARD you have turned off PMs. A real class act you are!

 

We all have are opinions and in my opinion the Lord Nelson is a dump, dive, of the first order. Therefore, it is hard to image anyone giving a glowing review of such an establishment unless they have a financial interest in the business.

 

Slag off "most" popular locations? In whose mind? Yours? There is only one other hotel I can think of that I don't like, not because it is a dump, which it is not, but because it is not a good value for the money, regardless of its location. There is one restaurant with tasteless food. Oh, and the hotel whose maintenance staff tried to open my suitcase when they were suppose to be fixing the air conditioning. Pictures available.

 

The main purpose of these boards is to share information and that evolves sharing one's personal opinions. If you don't like mine, fine, go stay or eat at the businesses in question and form your own opinions. That is, IF you are capable of forming your own opinions.

Well lads I have read a lot in fact too much of this slagging off the hotels. I go to thailand to enjoy myself :-) not act as a scout for a travel agent ! Just accept a hotel which does not come up to your individual requirement as an experience and move on! Life is really but a blink of an eye and I would rather get to enjoy more of it before it closes (the eye that is lol) than worry about holiday accomodation, thats easily changed at any point. The only thing more have to add is I have stayed in Flipper Lodge in Soy 8 a few times and its good and right in the middle of it and I know it and accept it for the buzzzing place that it is!

Oh and did I forget to say I am off to los in under 2 weeks ah lovely.

I have stayed at the LN several times over the past few years and have enjoyed it every time. It is not an "out and out dump" as the complaining member states.....in my opinion it is great value for the money, the staff are wonderful, and the owner is a good bloke too. For instance, I forgot the cord for my electric shaver there, and when I returned a few weeks later the housekeeping lady had put it aside and saved it for me.

 

I'd stay there anytime.

 

As for the Residence Garden, I am sure it is a lovely place, but it is TWICE THE PRICE!! The LN and its sister hotel (although they now have different owners) the Queen Vic are both good value for the money - compare these rooms to what you get for what you pay in your home countries....

It's not "low expectations" but an understanding that rooms that go for 450-700 baht per night are not going to be at the same standard as ones that go for 1000-1500 per night. I don't expect fine mahogany furniture or the bed sheets to be 500 count Egyptian cotton. I expect the room to be clean and everything works.

For that you will have to pay more than 1,500 a night, even in Pattaya.

At 450-700 a night and to be happy with it, one either has low expectations, a tight budget, or is a little too close to the dollar.

A former colleague of mine who can afford to fly first class and stay at the Oriental (based on annual income, not what he has managed to save), won't stay anywhere but the old Federal Hotel in Bangkok and even then negotiates with them for their cheapest room, one few others would want. It took me a long time to finally realize the guy's entire life revolves around money. I find the whole thing very sad as every conversion ends up being about how much this and that costs and how much he can or did save, etc., etc., etc. It is one thing if you are on a budget, but in his case it is just plain pathetic.

When I first started traveling to LOS.. I stayed in 400 baht a night places and always took the bus to Pattaya from BBK. Now I like to stay in 1000-1500 a night places and get a private cab ride. Much nicer! I have moved up to nicer places but I still dont rent a penthouse.

 

I have stayed at the Lord Nelson... it was a 700 baht room ..... nothing more..... nothing less. I dont think it was an exceptional value but just OK for the price. I have stayed at the Pig & Whistle for 700 baht. Gee... the rooms for BOTH hotels (in my opinion) rate the same! The location on Soi 6 was not much of an advantage.

 

I will still look for the exceptional 700 baht room... but I wont be staying at either the Lord Nelson or the Pig and Whistle again.
