Can anyone recommend a place to stay within walking distance of Soi Cowboy that is nice, friendly and under 3000 baht?

 

I am currently in the Somerset Lake Point Serviced Apartments on Soi 16. The hotel tuk-tuk will drop you off at Sukhumvit subway/Asoke skytrain or Emporium. A 45 sq m suite at 2,500 Baht is outstanding value for money.

Tai-Pan hotel.

 

Walk in cowboy from Asoke all the way to the end of cowboy. Turn left and walk about

500 meters or so, on your left.

 

You will read posts about not being BG friendly etc. not true. I have stayed there 30+ times

and use it for my secret place in BKK.

Somerset Lake Point really looks like a good deal there CT. If I must end up in BKK for a few days, I will use it. But I may get out of it now and stay the whole trip in Patt's.

Stayed in the Swiss Grottino November 2006.

Liked it a lot. Quiet, well-appointed rooms, close to

Skytrain, Metro and The Cowboy. 24 hour security,

in-room safe, too. B'fast tasty, particularly the Thai

Omelette. Try the Thai breakfast soup, too.

nothing fancy, been around for years, old oil field trash hang out the STAFF, food and pool are good...

BUT DON'T USE THE CARTAXI/MOTORTAXI PEOPLE OUT FRONT THEY ARE CROOKS AND GRASSES....

other than that its a good place to stay close too cowboy and walking distance too nanna too....

Soi 20 is the other side of Sukhumvit from cowboy- a short walk.

The Rembrandt serviced apartments here are great value- you have a seperate bedroom, living room and kitchenette. Haven't stayed there recently, but around 2500-3000 bht.

For a real cheapie, on the left hand side of Soi 20, opposite the Windsor, there is a hotel that does rooms for 800 Bht including breakfast. They are humble but adequate, and have a private bathroom. There is a friendly little beer bar, the Rain Hut, out the front.

I stayed at the Swiss Grottino a couple of weeks ago, it's a little hard to find the first time, it's in a little soi behind the Grand Westin and Robinsons on Sukhumvit. I payed 1950bt. and really enjoyed my stay there as did my date for the evening, also a 5 min. walk to soi cowboy

I think it's 600/night, and with a 100b tip, you can check out late afternoon

A comment to Tai Pan hotel, it's normally regarded as not guest friendly. Some say if you use internet rates or some discount price you must pay a joiner fee if it's wrong persons in the reception. I often stay there with TGF and if we not arrive together I must give her name and they checking her ID when she arrives so the name I gave was correct, but we didn't have any problem taking an extra girl to the room in the night.

 

Also the cheaper prices don't include breakfast and you will stay on lower floors in rooms ready for renovation.

you can book the Rembrandt cheaper than that on latestays.com, farangs.com and gothailand.com.

i stayed at the Rembrandt in 2005 and 2006, the hotel not the apartments, and it was guest-friendly. they checked ID, then let the girl up to my room for no charge.

 

always wanted to check out jasmine... i thought it was on suk soi 23 though...? i remember it being across the street from one of my favorite restaurants there, and stumbling distance to soi cowboy.

 

never see it on the online booking sites though.

I am planning on staying at Jasmine City Suites for two months. I apologize if this is a silly questiun, but can you tell me more about the Nanpong rate? What exactly is it and does it apply to month to month stays? I have stayed at the JCS before and think it is a great place to stay (about the same price as the JWM and Majestic Grande, but bigger suites), but I am having a tough time dealing with the monthly rates (70K Baht). Any help would be appreciated.

So I asked for the Na Na Pong rate and was quoted 62,597 Baht a month for a superior 1 bedroom suite. The website lists the same suite at 64,800 (apartment rate). This rate includes cleaning 6 times a week, plus unlimited water, and a set amount of electricity. I am wondering if this is discounted from the hotel rate for the suite (72,000 Baht) or did I not get a deal at all??

Here is what I have from the sales guy Pichan J. good up until July '07. unfortunately he has left. Hopefully they will honour this. You should also realize the 72,00 on the website is ++ means taxes will be added. The Nanpong rate is taxes in (net). I had trouble posting the docuemnt below but basiccally it shows the rack rates until June 30 2007 which is ++ followed by the monthly and then monthly based on a yearly rental. Tjhe rates after July appear to have gone up but hopefully if the rates are net you will have a decent deal.

Take this with however many grains of salt you want, but there's information on a hotel booking agency's website that the Jasmine Suites is no longer guest friendly and charges a joiner fee even if you book a double. In the past, all the info I've had from that site has been accurate.

 

The Swiss Grottino is a good choice. The proprietor, a Swiss hospitality professional, also runs another small hotel, the Town Lodge, on Soi 18. The TL isn't as conveniently located as SG, but has a free tuk-tuk service to Cowboy.

I was not able to find mention of JC's joiner fees on the site you linked, but I was wondering if this applies to the hotel suites or the apartment suites?? This would be a no go for me.

I have read alot of good things about the SG, but the purpose of this trip is to prepare for a test (really!!) I will be taking in July. So I need a large space, with a study area, lots of light, and quiet. I think JC is ideal, but pricey (and its proximity to Soi Cowboy is a bonus!).

On the home page (the one the link goes to)), there's a box with scrolling "Breaking News" that lists guest-friendly hotels and changes in the policies of hotels that were previously GF. You can read it there. But you could send an email to the hotel and ask straight up if there is a joiner fee for overnight guests.
