Has anybody flown on Turkish Airlines.

I was checking out flight prices from Dublin to Bangkok and Turkish airlines seem like a reasonable option.

I put "turkish airline review" into google and in one of the reviews it stated that you have to recheck your luggage in Instanbul .... Do you have to recheck your luggage in Instanbul?

How are they for arriving on time?

Flew with them once about 20 years ago (IST-FCO) so I’m far from qualified to comment, however here’s a link to Skytrax passenger opinion page:

http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/turkish.htm

As far as on time, I got the following data from flightstats.com:

DUB-IST TK1976 (Monday & Thursday) on time pct. 44%

Or

DUB-IST TK1978 (Tuesday, Friday & Sunday) on time pct. 23%

IST-BKK TK60 (Daily) on time pct 65%

BKK-IST TK61 (Daily) on time pct 68%

IST-DUB TK1975 (Monday & Thursday) on time pct. 61%

Or

IST-DUB TK1977 (Tuesday, Friday & Sunday) on time pct. 51%

Hope this helps.

Bill

Thank you Tahoe Bill and Macky for your replies.

I don't really care about the food as i will try to sleep the whole way through.

They are very competitive on price.

I used them from Manchester about 2 yrs ago,was ok,nothing special.1 bad thing was waiting on tarmac for 2 hrs at Istanbul waiting for a late flight from Pakistan to connect.Hey i guess shit happens sometimes.

Now im hooked on Etihad business class very cool and a good price.12 days till wheels up then 5 mnths in heaven lol

Flew with them from Dublin last Dec - good Airline and nice planes with decent onboard entertainment. Layover in Istanbul on the way home (5 hours) a bit of a pain but seamless tranaction with checkin/luggage and everything on time.

Tried most carriers in the last 18 months - now stick with Air France - cheap enough if ya book early - otherwise expensive !

My 2 cents - enjoy !

Just checked my records here - have had 6 trips in the last 9 months so things get a bit confusing ! Was my December trip last - 26th Dec to 4th Jan - paid €820 - excellent deal as I only booked on 16th Dec - was through Clubtravel.ie and I can confirm that I did NOT have to check in my luggage at Istanbul.

Bang - I have nothing against Istanbul but a 5 hr layover in the airport at 4.30am has absolutely no upside !

My wife has flown with them a couple of times. She liked the service and would fly with them again.

Don't touch them with a barge pole there Fucking Shite.Flew with them last year ,2 hour delay out of Manchester, had to pick up boarding pass in Istanbul ,hundreds of people thronging round the onward flights desk it was a fucking Zoo.On the return flight delayed for "operational reasons"missed connecting flight in Istanbul.Ended up being bined in LHR,had to get domestic flight on to Manchester,4 hours late.Planes are good ,crews good, but the ground side is a fucking joke you've been warned.

Flew them frequently a couple of years ago on the regional flight from Istanbul to Zagreb, Croatia. Good service and food was fine in business class, I don't know what it was like in economy. Don't know about longer flights either.

With a stopover in Istanbul I would be thrilled.

Istanbul is a great city but a 5 hour layover is not enough time to do anything. The airport is a fair ways outside of town and I've had times when it took 1.5 hours to get downtown through all of the traffic. To really enjoy anything in the city you would need at least an overnight layover.

Well I used to live in Turkiye and flew them (Turk Hava Yollari aka Turkish Airlines) quite a bit in the late '80s. Never had a problem.

All the pilots were ex-military and felt like it was straight up on the takeoffs and straight down on the landings  .

Its up to you sure better then Areo Float ,but saving is less than £50 I look again

Bur serious I can not comment on their long distance hauls, but Turkish domestic check ins was shit.

I have only flown with Emerites and Etihad airlines which I have always been very happy.

Love Abi Dabi airport with Etihad as its so small but hate Dubi with Emerites as it is to big .
