I've browsed through the hotel review thread a couple of times now and I have come up with a few hotels I am considering. And I have heard little mentioned on them, so let me know if you know anything.

My top choice is The Hotel Konig Mansion http://www.english.hotelkoenig.com/index.html And I have heard next to nothing about it. From what I know about it... it isn't all that far away from walking street. Seems fairly clean and western. Also seems fairly cheap.

My other choice is The Globetrotter Hotel http://www.globetrotter-thai.50megs.com/index.html It is cheaper than the Konig, but it also looks a lot cheaper as well. The main thing, beyond the price, that attracts me to this one is the balcony veiw.

Also I plan to stay a night or two at The Vault http://www.thevaultpattaya.com/index.html Looks nice for the VIP room and is expensive. But I figured this would be my high rolling night or two. I figure if you are gonna spring for two girls why not have a room with a pole.

I know I always see people saying residence in or areca lodge. Residence in looks great but is a bit pricey for me. And I forgot what my reason was for not liking the areca lodge... think it might have been a bad review I read. Well, either way. Let me know what I am getting myself into.

There are lots of options, depending on your duration of stay, time of visit and other requirements. Your shortlist is too diverse to use as a template.

Its been a while since I've posted. I can recommend the Globetrotter. Lars is a great host, the staff are excellent, and the top rooms are the ones with the balcony. The negatives are that you have to pay extra for the electricity (still cheap though), no internet connection and/or wifi, and the aircon is crap. My last trip was ruined by gallstone attacks, so I spent a lot of time in my room. Not bad overall. I paid the posted rates.

Hope that helps.

A few comments about the hotels after looking through the websites

Hotel Konig Mansion: This has red, blue, green and PURPLE furniture and decorations - tasteful. It is also in the Arab quarter.

Globetrotter Hotel: Yes, it does look cheap - from the outside it looks like a backpackers hostel.

Vault: This requires a non returnable deposit of 1650 baht per booking.

I can only commend on Hotel Koenig.

The Hotel is run by a German and will have mostly german guests. If you undestand german, you will find 244 Hotel Reviews for the Koenig on this site: http://www.der-einsatzplan.de/hotels/patta...s-pattaya-2.htm

The overall rating for the Koenig is 1, this is similar to an A in the US school note system. Looks like it is one of the best rated Hotels among german mongers in Pattaya.

I personally have never stayed in this Hotel, cause I don`t like the location that much.

If you are looking for specific Infos on the Hotel and you are (most likely) not able to read german, let me know, I will check the hotel reviews and post the needed Infos here, if I can find them.

Best regards

I can recommend the Vault. Yes, he requires a deposit, but I didn't have any troubles in that area. Though there is no pool, they offer free laundry which is very convienent. Mike even upgraded me to the Penthouse room at no charge as there was no one staying there at the time. Close to Walking St too.

I considered Hotel Koenig Mansion for my first trip 4 years ago but eventually went for a flipper on soi 7 so I could have a look around and see what was available ,I personally found the Koenig out of the way(you would need your own bike) and in a not so nice area ,the rooms were small and so was the pool and the manager would not give any reduction for monthly stays.Hotels that are not talked about often are that way because they don't have many fans, and are in the main, best avoided .

Ps my hotel of Choice is the Lek on soi 13 and 2nd rd has a large pool ,is right in the thick of the action (but quiet)and the manager will give a good discount for monthly or longer stays ,also the flipper on soi 7 is a good base .bst plan is if short stay book a good hotel ,for longer stays book a good hotel for 1 or 2 days and look around when in town to get exactly what you are looking for.

A small one across from the Haven and Sportsman on Soi 13/1 (or is it 13/2?) is called InHouse. I've stayed there twice. Pool is very small and that's it's worse point. Rooms used to be 800 baht per night. This Hotel also rents by the week and month.

Lek is good, but I didn't enjoy another low priced one called APEX. Room was too small and in need of a renovation.

My friends swear by the TIM Bar Hotel, big rooms with Jacuzzi. Have to ask for the big rooms.

Do you know how much have your friends paid for the Tim's Bar? A jacuzzi sounds good.

Close, but wrong on both. :banghead

The Haven and Sportsman are both on Soi 13. 13/1 & 13/2 are the next two sois as you head towards Walking Street. The Haven has a good restaurant though I much prefer the Sportsman on Soi 6 to the one on Soi 13.

Do you know how much have your friends paid for the Tim's Bar? A jacuzzi sounds good.

Having stayed at Tim bar and read other reviews, I have to say that there some key negatives

  • The person that owns Tim is a bit of a monster and is very difficult to deal with. She will not make any changes if you have problems e.g one guy had problems with ants in the bed but nothing was done.
  • She is money hungry and along with the rest of the staff hate it when you take girls back to your room who are not from the gogo bar below the bar - and the girls in the gogo bar are known for being old, ugly and fat
  • The rooms with jacuzzi's are really just normal baths with jets rather than proper jacuzzis. They tend to smell as they are not cleaned properly
  • This is not a hotel and so there are no hotel facilities such as a restaurant and pool. The rooms do not have balconies
  • There is a noise problem due to major construction taking place next to Tiim bar and also from the traffic from the multi lane second road as the windows are thin.
  • Security at the bar is poor. They do not record girl's ID's when they arrive and the room keys are left on top of the outside bar when the gogo closes

A plus point is that you can get rooms for under 1000 baht but you can also get rooms for this price at other places e.g. at the Secrets bar in Walking street, which are more modern. The price at Tim bar is not such good value when you consider that it is not really a proper hotel.

I've eaten breakfast at the Haven and the Sportsman on Soi 13 (thanks for the correction, I always get those Soi numbers mixed up), and enjoyed them both. Haven't eaten at Sportsman on soi 6. Same owner?

My friends are real mongers and don't seem to mind the noise distractions at Tim Bar Beer. That's why they recommended it. I personally never stayed there but was going to try it out once cause of the Jacuzzi. Maybe on a 1-2 night visit, not long term.

This is a great topic! The one time (March) I was there stayed at RGI and, although it is nice, it is far from the action.

I am looking for a nice mid-range hotel in the heart of the action (between Beach Road and Second Road (WS ok) that is clean and comfortable and open to multiple guests (not a hassle getting ladies in and not too hard to get extra towels for them).

A pool is nice but I never used at RGI.

I don't want a place with ants and/or roaches, I want a room safe that is not going to walk off, a softer than the typical hard asian matress would be great, not too noisy (but I realize it is a bar/nightlife town) and friendly staff is always a plus.

The reviews are not very up to date so I really appreciate to relevant comments you guys are adding to the discussion.

Let me ask, what is nice around Cherry Bar?

I think the same family run thwe two Sportsmans as the menus are very similar. The father (Ron?) is usually in the Soi 6 restaurant.

Looks good in the pictures, have you stayed at this place? Any comments? Also do you know how to contact the owner, no contact info is given on the website. Thanks.

No, I haven't seen the place. Try: rob at thebutterflybar dot com or info at thebutterflybar dot com

The old website hasn't been updated since July last year. The link iabove is obviously going to be their new website.

Here's one of their videos from last year; http://kiteboardervideo.com/viewclip.php?vid=vwYPJ72mfPY
