SpinyNorman,

I haven't stayed there, but do have reservations for a week in September. Last month I stopped by to confirm my reservations and had a look at a couple of the rooms. All in all, looks like a nice place to stay.

Here is some information from a thread on Secrets, hope this helps.

Stayed at Pattaya Bay Resort for 13 nights from July 23. Found that all in all, it was good value. We stayed in a deluxe room, cost worked out to 1200 baht per night, as they give you free night if you stay 6. Staff were friendly and helpful, although their English was limited at times. It is a little out of the way, but they have a Tuk Tuk which takes you to Second or Third Rd anytime you want for free. There were only 5 tv channels which were English, but they had Australian ABC which showed the Aussie Rules so we were happy. The rooms were clean, large and everything you could want. Small balcony which suited my mate as he is a smoker. Rooms had small kitchenette, so on the first day we bought a small kettle so we could make coffee in his room. No joiners fee. Bathrooms were large enough, good showers and bath, and the room cleaning occurred every day. Rooms had excellent tv and dvd players. I would have no hesitation to stay there again. It is a relatively new hotel, so make sure you know the directions or that you have a map, as our first few taxi drivers had no idea where it was. Once we got accustomed to Pattaya, we could direct them, but the first day or so were a bit frustrating.

Hi Jboy

Accordiing to their web site "Pattaya Bay Resort is situated on Soi 15 near Second Road in the heart of the city. "The Avenue" (Pattaya’s premiere shopping and entertainment complex) is directly across the street. "

Is this shopping mall fully or partially opened?

What is the size of this shopping mall compared to Big C or Royal Garden Plaza?

Is Pattay Bay Resort very close to this shopping mall?

Thks

The Avenue is really across the street and it's open (only a few shops and the movie theater but it's open to walk through). It's a substantial mall but not enclosed. Instead of having to walk to Soi 15, cutting through the Avenue puts you right in front of Soi Yamato (13/1) (about a 5 minute walk). The free shuttle service is reliable as well. Great value at the promo rates but I'd probably pass once it expires.

I have heard that you have to pay for your stay up front when you check-in. The rates during the peak season are not exactly competitive either.

Maybe the Dynasty Inn on Soi 13 provides better value?

I spent most of August at PBR and wrote an ongoing report (search for it!).

I had to pay up front for my one-month stay. I'm not sure about the daily rates, but the long-stay rates were somewhat competitive.

I've also stayed at the Dynasty Inn. PBR beats the crap out of it on every level.

Further to my earlier post and in answer to questions, thanks to those who responded anyway....the mall complex is 2 min walk from hotel but has cinemas, bowling alley etc open now with shops, cafes to come...will be back in patts early oct and will check it out again...its not like Big C etc...will be a good place overall as its right outside the door and gives a shortcut to main Rd...Jboy

I haven't stayed here but from their website

"We do not require a reservation deposit unless you are checking in after 18:00. All room reservations will be held until 18:00 unless guaranteed for late arrival by a credit card for the first night's stay."

Not since the Dynasty Inn increased their rates for low and high season back in October.

He was asking if you have to pay up front when you check in, not if you have to leave a deposit. The answer is yes, you have to pay in full when you check in.

Do note that you can lop off 150 if you opt out of breakfast.

My apologies. I completely missed the reference to "check-in" when I read the post.

Staying at the Pattaya Bay Resort in a standard room right now.

Pros:

- Extremely affordable, monthly rate is 19500 baht = about 630 baht a night

- Clean rooms, and new.

- Location is great, very close to 2 major malls.

- Endless hot water, as the water heaters are electric and instantaneous.

- AC is very cold and has a programmable remote control.

- Nice big fridge for storing drinks and food.

- Full gym on floor 7.

Cons:

- Water pressure for shower is terrible.

- Only one elevator for an 8 story hotel with many rooms, takes forever to get the elevator at times.

- WiFi coverage is spotty throughout building. Some rooms have great connections, others poor.

- Noise is a real issue if you're a light sleeper. Construction, dogs barking, people fucking, other rooms TVs and conversations, and any activity in the hallway can be heard.

- Mosquitos get into your room. This is due to the permanently open hallway windows, poor design.

- Floor design in bathroom is multi level, so it's easy to smash your foot on it coming through the doorway. Even one of my girls almost fell, haha!

- TV reception varies from room to room.

- Communication is tough with the staff due to language barrier.

- Room electricity is bound to a keycard, so when you leave there is no juice to charge your stuff.

All in all, I give Pattaya Bay Resort a C+ for effort. But it's tough to complain too much when a new hotel is 630 baht a night. I'll certainly consider staying here in the future.

Is the monthly rate (19500 baht) incl of electric and water? :poke

I've never stayed here, but what I've heard from others reviews as well it seems a little bit too expensive for what you get!? :D

Lots of people rave about this place, but if you read between the lines:

small noisy rooms, mozzie infested, bad water pressure, faulty WiFi and TV signals!

Lots of new places with nice quiet big aircon rooms with similar or better facilities, but maybe without the Gym and some without a Pool, for about 12000 -15000 baht a month all incl. in Soi LK Metro and along Soi Bua Khao and in South Pattaya.

A little bit further away (Third Road) you'll even find rooms for less than that at about 6000 baht a month and up, and with bahtbuses usually withing short walking distance anyway!

They ASK you to pay in full, but you can offer partial and they will accept. Always good in case something comes up.

That's odd. I've stayed there four times and was never asked to pay in full.

I mean at checkin. Have stayed 3 times and never paid in full.

The girl quotes me the price, and ask for payment. I say I will pay X and pay rest later. She says OK.

That keycard you can take off since you don't need it to get in the room. Problem solved. The location is great, but I don't particularly like the front staff, especially that fat lady. :cry2
