Eva Airs 747 from Heathrow

Recommended Posts

Next month Im going on Eva to Thailand. Apparently, they are using refurbished 747s again ( No more 777 then?). Has anybody used them since they are flying the 747s from Heathrow? Im going over in Elite/Evergreen and bck in economy. I dont think much of the Elite class on the 777s (it was much better in the ''old!"' 747!), so I guess the ''refurbished Elite isnt much better? Any recent reports pllease? Cheers in advance guys!

I am flying with eva in march so i phoned to pre-book my seat. I will be going out on the 747 but returning at the end of the month on the 777. The girl on reservations said that they will be using the 747 during the high season and that they will use the 777 in the low season. I did like the upgrade on the old 747 but not on the 777, will have to check it out on the refurbished plane.

The seat plan on their website for the refurbished 747s does not look good ! :clap1 The old good section at the front is now Buisness class and upstairs is Cattle class. (however for "cattle", it looks reasonable up there).

I have booked up for March, so if anyone gets to go on the 747 before then, please let us know what the entertainment is like in economy please. I had an idea that it would not be the on-demand seat back jobs, as in the 777's, but was informed on the phone by EVA that the entertainement will be the same <huh

Hopefully thay have updated it then <grin

I will take a PSP loaded with a few films anyway, just to make sure. It's a bloody long flight when you can not sleep :banghead

It is AVOD on the 747, December movies included Bourne Ultimatum, Shoot em High, and an hilarious British movie Death at a Funeral.

The 747 is the same same but different spec as the 777.

I think they only have 3 of the refurbished 747s so I guess they cannot go u/s.

I must admit Evergreen class was great on the old 747, I think you can still fly that from Amsterdam,

Just selected my Evergreen seat for AMS - BKK in March and EVA are still using the same 747-400 Combi aircraft.

Well worth the up-grade IMHO.

Growler

How do the Evergreen deluxe fares from AMS compare to the economy fares from LHR.

I get the impression that Eva charge quite a bit more for Elite from LHR.

Eva air website are offering £506 inc taxes with FF miles, even less from consolidators with no miles , H class.

With so many low cost flights to AMS it may be a good way to fly to BKK at economy prices but in a decent business class seat. I just don't think Elite is worth paying the extra for.

I tried to book Evergreen from Amsterdam but my usual source (West/East) wouldn't book it, in fact other on-line agencies similarly said they would only book tickets with a UK departure point. The Eva website quoted me 999 euros economy return for my dates, but wouldn't quote for Evergreen as this was fully booked.

Booking a through departure from my local airport via Amsterdam was ridiculously expensive, almost twice the price of the direct Heathrow, nor was Eva offered as a carrier, so in the end once again, I booked from Heathrow for £470 with a free 'fly the bus' connection.

Agree with the views of other posters that Elite is not a patch on the Evergreen up the front, and not worth the extra.

What is "fly the bus! ??

Is it where you book in at say, Birmingaham, and they put you in a coach to LHR <huh

As a first time flyer with EVA would I need to belong to the Evergreen club to get the cheap flights?

No, but it would not hurt you to sign up. It does not take long, and the FF miles may come in handy one day for an upgrade or free flight.

This was a slogan used in some advertising campaign to promote bus travel over air travel between cities, but in this instance it is a reference to the freebie National Express airport bus tickets that Eva offer 'from selected points' (presumably those towns served by the company) much as China Airlines used to offer freebie connecting flights to their Amsterdam departures (do they still do this BTW?)

In my case with an evening departure and a approx 4 hour journey it is a good way of getting to Heathrow, but to answer your question, it is just a bus trip, no luggage check-in.

I have just booked my February trip with WestEast, £628 economy. I know that I could have got it cheaper but I needed to book a class of ticket which gave me 100% miles.

The cheaper tickets are either H class with no miles or U class with 80% miles, I had to book B class to re-qualify for my Silver Card.

WestEast give you free National express coach travel, yet if you book direct with Beaver Air they do not

A green FF card can be downloaded from the Beaver air site, that's how I first started.

Regarding AMS, I think someone posted a Durch travel agents link on one of the Eva posts some time ago.

I checked on Eva air web site from AMS and there was no availabilty when I wanted to travel.

Finally one thing I have found out this week, as we know the Eva flight is LHR-BKK-TPE. There can be no or poor availabilty for LHR-BKK but good availabilty for LHR-TPE on the same flight also Eva were charging LHR-BKK £679 rtn and £579 rtn for LHR-TPE on the same flight, work that one out.

Book TPE return with a stopover in BKK

Gus,

I am going out in February and returning in March. I booked Evergreen de Luxe online in September Ams-Bkk Euro1031 about Stg£785 at the moment. I have booked my last few trips online. I note that there has been a huge hike on online fares Ams-Bkk. For a prospective trip in July-August they are now quoting Euro 1320. For price reasons and better connections I will go through Heathrow for that trip.

Next trip I'm going via LA  just joking of course but Eva fares LAX-BKK favour travel in Elite class. I forget the exact fares on the Eva web site but economy wasn't so cheap nor was Premium Laurel but Elite was only about 1200$ as I recall.

This is a good deal for BR FFs, book Elite and use your FF miles to upgrade to PL. :D

An Eva source has told me that when LHR T5 opens in March and BA commences moving out of T4, there are no plans at present for Eva to move to T4.

I've just thought, that will mean the Customs people are spread thinner :bow

I paid more or less the same AMS - BKK return flying out 11 March and back 09 April. I booked in November.

EVA fares on the the AMS - BKK route go up with effect from 1 April but, because my outward leg is before the fare increase, I still got the return at the old price.

EVA are currently handled by Air Canada at LHR who are based in T3. So unless they move, or EVA become disgruntled/get a better deal, they will probably remain there.

Having said that, things are constantly changing/evolving at LHR :D
