Buying a new car.

Recommended Posts

I have decided to buy a new car. To be more precise: an Isuzu or Toyota pick-up truck.

I went through various forums looking for information, hints and tips on this subject and found out that in general it is recommended to buy a new one as second hand car prices are relatively high. New cars come with a warranty and have no history of accidents and bad maintenance. Also a good insurance seems to be very important.

My question is which car dealer (-s), preferably in the Pattaya area, would you recommend for buying a Toyota or Isuzu pick-up truck (or: which dealers should be avoided).

Your advice will be appreciated.

Toyota for me.

They have service stations all over the place. Took ours Hilux into the Hua Hin one for it's 20,000k service. Just drove in.

Pull into the car park. Someone comes to you as you get out, takes your service card and details.

Wait about an hour in a AC room with free internet computer, tea, coffee, toilets, comfy chairs.... You can sit and watch the car being serviced in the workshop.

Compare that to service in the UK- " Swhhhh- Well Guv', we got a lot on this week, fit you in next Friday at 9 ? "

They must be good Pickups, there are thousands of 'em on the roads.

Bought my Isuzu at the main dealers on Sukhumvit (out of Pattaya, north on Suk, uturn before the flyover).

Excellent after sales, same service experience as above, etc etc....sales girl (Ae) takes care of everything.

Nidnoyham, did you buy this car new and if so, where did you buy. Would you recommend this dealer ?

Yes it was new, Si bought it at Pitchet, up north. Its a pretty basic model- 2 doors etc. When we swap over driving, the seat, steering, wing mirrors, all adjust in seconds.

The one thing I don't like is the dark side windows. Great in daylight, but turning right or left in total darkness is a bit scary. the large wing mirrors do block your view a bit too.

Your reasons for avoiding a second hand car may not all be valid....but I can appreciate them, Thais love NEW things and will gladly spend the extra 150,000 baht of yours

The warranty would still be valid... it can be 3 years and will transfer with the vehicle.

You can check the book to see if it has been serviced regularly at the authorised dealer.

Yes second hand cars are relatively high priced, because vehicles hold their prices well in Thailand... and new cars do often come with a years Class 1 insurance, but believe me, it will be in the price. I think that will change as so many pickups are being built here now and new vehicles are being offered very attractively. A buy from a farang who is going home or a 1 year old repo vehicle at auction can still save you a decent amount.

I was pleased with my visit to the Ford Dealer, great service, located Sukhumvit heading South between Jomtiem and Na Jomtiem. Consider the number of doors well, 2 is an aggravation unless you will NEVER have people (or luggage) in the rear of the cab......

About trucks:

Isuzu is a Chevrolet

Mazda is a Ford

Mitsubishi is a Dodge

Why wouldn't you buy a Toyota?

And if you buy a new Toyota with a 3 litre engine, chances are that you will feel the power of an Izuzu :)

Rumours has it that Toyota is buying that engine because of the low emissions.

As to american cars driving around, in Japan or elsewhere, the number seems to be on the way down, the US included.

As for dealer, we gout our Izuzu pick up truck from Kings Yont in Buriram some years ago. Service always been exellent. Same ast the other mentioned, someone take over the care, get it serviced while you get refeshments in air con environment. Once it turned out thye had to wait till the next day for parts, drove us back home ( a good 90 k) and picked us up the next day.

I just wish dealers back home would offer some of that service.

If you are going to drive a lot, consider that Isuzu and Ford get the best fuel economy and Toyota gets the worst. Prior to about 2006 Ford got the worst but the new generation diesel fixed that.
