Planning my trip for next week and would like to stay on Soi LK Metro. I've narrowed my choices down to 3Som Bar, Billabong or Armageddon.

 

I like the looks of the rooms at Armageddon but I haven't been able to find any recent reviews on Pattaytalk.

I did a search on the PA board and one member complained of bed bugs and receiving about 10 bites. :banghead Needless to say he checked out after one night. The post on PA was from August. Has anyone stayed at Armageddon recently and are bed bugs still an issue at this guesthouse? :D

Back in June I contacted them about a room and they never got back to me. Ended up staying at the Kilkenny. I liked it but it is now under new management. Contacted Kilkenny about a room for Jan and “all full”. So I booked a room at the Billabong. Looking forward to trying the place out.

Judd - that was my buddy who stayed at Armageddon - he doesn't make things up - I saw the lumps from the bites all over him. Ask the Armageddon directly to verify the story. If I took the same stance as you I would say "Maybe Judd is the owner and trying to cover his ass" but that would be juvenile in my opinion. Anyone mature enough to use these boards properly knows that the genuine posters try to share valuable and fair information to help other members out - I am one of them.

Recently stayed in the Armageddon. Had a nice reception and brought swiftly to my room.

 

First impressions - huge rooms, looked clean, plenty of TV Channels,decent TV and DVD player,2 fans and large aircon, rapid free internet access. Stairs not a problem, love the seperate side entrance and there seems to be lots of security with cameras everywhere.Balcony view to LK metro. No prob smoking in room.Took a while to figure out the swithes for each item (even the hot water!) If I had just been told then i would not have had to go without for 1 night. Towels fresh and clean. Nice size bed. Stocked minibar and free bottles of water. Laminate with room service menu didnt appear until the second day and didnt try it.

 

Not so good - the inroom safe would hold a passport and camera but thats it - no space for even a tiny laptop like mine. Balcony doors have no lock so bring your own padlock (no big deal). Got eaten to death by bedbugs 10 new lumps a day - noticed the sheets were not changed the first night - waited for the cleaner the 2nd day and after telling her twice to change the sheets she eventually changed one - not even the two ! Had to leave because of this - had lumps everywhere - damn shame as I would glady have paid for clean sheets and not too much to ask for. With rates of only 1200 at the LK Metropole (and no bugs) there was no comparison but I was already looking like quasimodo so no choice.

 

Got an apology from reception and paid up the 650 baht a night for nights stayed.

 

Summary - "Nearly never won the race" damn shame I had to leave - love the area, love the room/facilites/price and attitude of management - clean sheets and a bigger safe and I would stay there every time

 

I saw the rooms and would gladly have moved in there myself however had already prepaid Nova Platinum.

 

Hardy sounds like someone with a gripe against the owners - supply the facts and let the BM make his own decision.

I am the manager of Armageddon and would like to respond to some of the critcism of our bar and guesthouse.Its very easy for someone with a gripe to come on and slate an establishment ..wish this guy 'ghowwerd' would put a name to his comments so we know if it he made a genuine complaint to us... As of yesterday have not received one complaint about bed bugs or the locks on the balcony doors or the sheets....

The sheets are changed daily and on the odd occasion a custimer may sleep thru the afternoon or leave a 'do not disturb' sign on the door and we respect his privacy.. the cleaning ladies leave at 5 oclock so if cannot get into room thru no fault of ours it is left to the next day.not had one complaint on that

Now to the bugs..At no time have we ever had a complaint on bugs and if this complainer had bothered to tell us or show us some evidence instead of being a bit spineless and slating us from a distance we could have investigated......the only thing i will say is that there are mosquitos here and if someone does complain we give some repellant but until the thai govt eradicates every mozzy from here what can we do.

We have one room that the lock is not working but is now and that was the smallest room we have and not often used so i doubt the compainer was staying there.

In one year here we have had only two people leave short of their planned stay..one was for some noise that he was not happy with and the other had a problem with some of the ladies he bought here and also some problem that he made for himself with a couple of the ladies in our bar so they are the only two......if this complainer is neither of these can only assume he stayed the full time and if things that bad and he made no complaint to us then i suggest he has the problem not us..

I will say that we get rave reviews from just about everyone on the service and quality of our stay and the proof of that is easy to see with repeat custimers after one year making up most of our bookings.

We take great pride in what we have here and any ...and i say any complaint is taken very seroiusly because our reputation is everything to us.... Mark......manager

Only have good things to say about your bar(not stayed before).The only problem i ever had was walk into that frigging glass panel before the bogs,nearly knocked me sen out lol.I was a bit pissed though and felt very embarrassing lol.

Pretty Poor, IMO the guy gave a pretty balanced view of your place and was rather complimentary except for two things, you respond by calling him "spineless" for not confronting you. He doesn't have to he's the customer why didnt you take the initiative and asked why he was checking out early and if there was anything you could do to rectify it.

 

IMO his reveiw was balanced and wouldnt put me off staying with you, your response would

Re the management response. Seems to me that the client did complain to the room servive and the reception. Perhaps the staff are not passing these complaints onto the management?

 

don't tell the boss and avoid a kick in the arse you mean ??

 

I think you're right Teelak.

Yeah, my thoughts as well. Not expecting the owner / manager to come online and grovel but a more conciliatory response would probably be better for business. As the manager only joined this day to put up this post, presumably in response to someone telling him of criticism, then it is a hell of an opening advertisement. Not.

I guess that I have become cynical about Pattaya accommodation in that seems to me that the average response is never concilliatory. There seems to be a need for owners to shoot the messenger rather than put things right and repair the damage. Right or wrong, even in Thailand, "The customer is ALWAYS right"

Come on guys, take some responsibility and rather than shoot from the lip invite the punter back for a free night to show how GOOD you are rather than the other alternative.

At the very least the complainer should give the room number. More than likely if the story is true the culprits are still about. Wouldn't hurt to check the bed out by the mangager/owner/whatever.

there seems to be a lot of assumptions being made about shooting the messenger and the bed bug bandit still being here...like i said before if one of our custimers comes to us we can check it out but online after he has left bit hard and no one else has told us of a problem.......we do everything to look after our guests and the feedback we get and people who keep comming back tells us we do the rite thing almost all of the time...some people with a beef can take a cheap shot as this guy has and we dont back away from comments made so the compalainers and supporters get over it and come stay here and join the many other happy custimers we do have....mark

More managers/owners should use these forums to see what people write about their stablishments.

Just because the manager takes things serious i might considering to stay there ( att least it is on my list now lol)

 

By the way though he complained a bit the overal review was very positive, except the bed bugs :bigsmile: I believe tha even if the complaint was true and it was a solitary incidence, no one else should be scared to have this problem ( the manager will see to it if necesary) I sound like a conflict mediator lol

 

I'm gonna take a close look at the website now :beer lol

thanks Aras for your comments...my point was always we do take matters raised by custimers seriously....just give us the chance to rectify issues while the custimer is here and we can address him or her directly.......hope to see you soon aras.........mark

went into this bar for the first time with my wife early last month we were the only two people in the bar its a very nice looking bar but nobody could be bothered to talk to us so we did not stay for a second drink pity its not very friendly

no i went in with my english wife we have been coming to pattaya for 2months a year since 1987 this year for 5 months we normally get a friendly welcome in all bars working or not this is not a friendly bar hence no custom

Hey this seams to be going on and on, I have stayed at Armageddon on 2 Occasions now and alway found the people to be friendly and make you feel welcome. Like someone said if you go in with your wife the girls will be stand offish. You were there in October during the day what do you expect during low season there, it always takes two to have a conversation so did you speak to them.
